I love any pie because it's a dessert, and I pretty much love all desserts except the ones that have powdered sugar on them.

Problem is, no one really eats pumpkin pie except around Thanksgiving so I have to wait until then to have some...WHY ISN'T THANKSGIVING ONCE A MONTH!?

Stop playing animal Crossing, and make yourself a pie.

What the hell pies are you Americans going on? Pies have meat in them and maybe cheese, or mushroom, or leak or bacon (alongside meat of course). Sometimes if I'm not feeling like meat I'll have spinach and ricotta.

Hey, chips are not FRIES. And Pies are not PIZZAS.

Besides, fish and chips from England are fucking disgusting. I had the same at a place a little outside Cape Town. It was literally a stone's throw from the water. IT WAS A HUNDRED TIMES BETTER.

I've never had pie (unless you count the stuff that comes out of the can of worms gp was talking about. I've had plenty of that)

What do you hell do you call a food with a crust just around the sides with a sweet filling, then?

I've never had pie (unless you count the stuff that comes out of the can of worms gp was talking about. I've had plenty of that)

You've never had ANY pie ever?  That's impossible...You've probably had it many times, but the awesomeness of the pies knocked you unconscious and you lost the memories of eating them...

I've had lame McDonalds-type "apple pie" but never the traditional sense. No one in my family bakes and the only dessert we ever really have for thanksgiving, or other holiday feast, is a cheescake.

Pecan pie is my favorite because it's sweet and sticky and crunchy and makes picking up all the pecans from the trees in my parents' and grandparents' yards worthwhile.  The things are everywhere.  The trees drip sap on everything, you can't walk barefoot because stepping on the sharp end of a pecan will make you curse your own mother, and shelling the pecans is the worst chore in the history of child labor, but it's all worth it for that golden brown piece of heaven.  I like that.  Pecan Pie:  It's heaven you put in your mouth!

Side note:  The word pecan is not pronounced like a container you urinate in.

Chocolate pie is a close second, even though I used to only eat the meringue when I was little.  It would be my favorite, but it's so hard to make right that I rarely get a perfect one that doesn't have a weeping meringue or runny filling or soggy crust.  Of course, even the not perfect ones are delicious, but a perfect one is worth its weight in gold.

A cheesecake is more akin to a tart.

Never seen that ">=l" thing. What is it?

They're all in the same family, but they are all quite unique in their manner of preparation. Pies are fully cooked. Tarts can be fully cooked, but not necessarily, and they do not have a top crust, and apparently my pastry instincts were right on as so this quote "Cheesecake is a large family of sweet, cheese-based tarts" from wiki confirms it.

Pfffff, pies don't need a crust on top (pumpkin pie, for example)...And here's a dictionary definition of "tart":

1.    a small pie filled with cooked fruit or other sweetened preparation, usually having no top crust.

and another...

2.    a covered pie containing fruit or the like.

and another...

3.    Slang. a prostitute or promiscuous woman................Whoops...

Never seen that ">=l" thing. What is it?

I wasn't trying to make a point but yes, cheescake pwns and as a New Yorker I'm obligated to say that NY cheesecake is superior to all, just like NYC pizza is to that food category.

also please note i said NYC pizza and not NY in general ;)

Ok you got me with the pumpkin pie. An exception in my opinion. See the thing is as I was grown up in Europe to me a tart will never have a top crust (with the exception of trying to make the North-American version of a tart) and it is a pastry, while the pie does have the top crust but it is not a pastry just like Rabicle was trying to say.
