Well then you've gotta be in the minority, man. 'Cause I just don't see that as being a selling point.  Most I ever carried mine was in a sleeve inside my backpack that I carried around campus during my college years.

I'd actually be curious to see some data on this. I don't know what most people would be carrying their portables in if not a pocket. Perhaps it's time for a forum poll...?

In the rare instances I travel with a Game Boy, that's usually where I put it. I don't like having things in pockets, if my clothes happen to have them. But I've always assumed I was an exception.

My DS Phat is too big for a "normal" pocket, but I used to carry it around in my cargo pockets all the time. I think I might have carried the GBA SP around in any pocket...
