Nintendo World Report's Live Coverage Of The Switch Reveal

For most of the staff, it's the most important sleepover in the history of the website.

'Tis the week of Switchmas, and what is undoubtedly the biggest set of Nintendo reveals in over a decade. And Nintendo World Report will be here to break it all down for you.

As official information becomes available we'll have it ready for you, but the real fun begins later this week when Nintendo has their press conference in Tokyo Thursday night/Friday morning. At 9:30 PM Eastern time on Thursday night, we will have a special "pregame show" Nintendo News Report with Donald, Bryan, JP and other special guests (?) clearing off last minute news and predictions before the show goes live.

During the event itself, the NWR chat room will be in high gear for discussion of the megatons that are sure to follow. For those with IRC clients, you can connect to irc.browsingtheinternet.com #nwr

Once the show wraps up, Radio Free Nintendo will go live with their reactions to the night's events, including possibly call-ins and definitely HOT TAKES. The player is to the left (direct link), and they'll be in the chat bringing in callers.

On Friday, look for more reactions in written, audio and video forms as we go into obsessive detail on the Switch and report anything you might have missed from Treehouse Live. We're anticipating deep dive videos on Nintendo World Report TV and an episode of Connectivity with more reaction during the day Friday.

Finally, the crew from the Famicast will be at the Tokyo Big Sight on Saturday for the event that is open to the public, and they'll be broadcasting live at the end of the day (Japan time). The NWR Twitter feed may have some live video as well, internet quality permitting.

After nearly two years of speculation, the question of what we're playing for the next several years will finally be answered. We hope you'll join us for the wildest ride.

Yes! IRC chat time!

LemonadeJanuary 10, 2017

Sounds like it will be good. I cant wait.

Important question:
I really appreciate the Nintendo News Report (Pre-event) and the RFN (Post-event), but I have 1 wimpy question.
My kids (ages 3, 5 & 7) will be up late that night to watch the Event. I know the RFN post-event will not be kid appropriate (but that's ok because they'll have to go to bed the second it's over). What I'm wondering is will the Nintendo News Report be kid appropriate (mostly language wise). If yes I'd love to turn it on for the whole family (maybe on the side while we play Mario Party/Kart/3D World) if not then maybe I'll just wait till they go to bed and then catch RFN.
Thanks

I'll try to keep it G-rated, since it'll be pre-watershed for most of North America.

I have been really looking forward to this all week!

LemonadeJanuary 12, 2017

Less than 24 hours to go now

Leo13January 12, 2017

Fred thanks for the question and Shaymin thanks for the answer. I have 3 young ones that are as excited as I am

fred13January 12, 2017

Will you guys be filling us in on how to pre-order it?
I tried asking today Best Buy told me they won't be doing pre-orders and GameStop told me their system shows 2 SKUs, but no prices or details yet so until they get those I can't pre-order it.

What's the server, network of nwr chat for those who might decide to use a seperate IRC program?

irc.browsingtheinternet.com

TheSevenYearSwitchJanuary 12, 2017

I've tried two different browsers and can't connect to the chat. On Edge it says disconnected from sever, and on Chrome it just show a blank chat box and I can't do anything.

This presentation is a complete disaster.

This presentation is a complete disaster.

Yeah, it isn't great. Probably should have led with Super Mario Odyssey rather than 1-2 Switch.

UncleBobRichard Cook, Guest ContributorJanuary 13, 2017

I don't think that would have saved it. :/

The translators have no emotion and no delivery (and seem to be flubbing many words).
It's hard to get excited about something when the people who know what they're talking about are telling me about it with the same amount of excitement as they'd tell me about feeding their cat.

AdrockJanuary 13, 2017

Doesn't need to save it, but 1-2 Switch was a total anti-boner.

Suda51's translator is particularly awful.

UncleBobRichard Cook, Guest ContributorJanuary 13, 2017

I still don't even know what 12Switch is... :/

AdrockJanuary 13, 2017

For that reason, I envy you.

Ian SaneJanuary 13, 2017

So that started off rough.  I was thinking "Okay more Wii style gimmicky nonsense".  I have difficulty understanding how 1-2 Switch even needs to be a videogame if you don't look at the screen.  I don't even really get how the game works.  It looks like a jazzed up rock-paper-scissors and I wonder if you even need anything other than your own hands to play something like that.

But they thankfully got to the good stuff!  I think the most important thing is just that Mario and Zelda both look really impressive!  That's what the Wii U needed!  Compare them revealing the Wii U with NSMB U and then look at Super Mario Odyssey.  That's what people want and expect out of a Mario game - something that looks ambitious and is going to set the standard for platforming.  It's completely the opposite of the play-it-safe style that Mario has been recently.  So that and Zelda in the same year and they both look like modern games but still are clearly Nintendo?  Yeah, that's at least a strong effort.  They're going for broke and not half-assing it.  I think if the Switch fails it will because the concept flops, not because Nintendo half-assed the first games for it.

Though what's Mario doing in a real life city?  It looks like he's turning into Sonic!  We're a step away from him kissing an anime princess!

Oh and was Zelda bathing in that video?  It sure looked like it.  That can't be right, can it?  Was she just wearing something tight and light coloured that could be confused for her skin?  Surely we're not going to have nudity in a Nintendo game!

On close inspection it looks like she's wearing a towel.

Oh wow there's TONS of news and games they didn't go into on that video!

For example, Mario Kart Deluxe in April with Battle Mode.

NullNoMoreJanuary 13, 2017

So, what are you guys looking for during the Treehouse presentation?

And there is a tweet from Saraya Saga saying XC2 in 2017. She telegraphed today's mention, and is suggesting stuff will be in the Treehouse. So THAT'S what I'm excited for.

The translator sounded like he was embarrassed and didn't want to be there.

Close and repeated inspections in fullscreen, you mean.

On closer inspection, she is wearing loafers.

I'm fairly sure it was the white dress you see later on in the trailer.

fred13January 13, 2017

Is the RFN post audio going to land in the podcast stream?

After putting my kids to bed and then pre-ordering my switch I only caught the very end of it I'd like to hear it all.

I'm hoping it's one of the fairies from the pools of water.
