Pimp my Kart.

Chocobo_RiderMay 04, 2012

ugh.  I'm defending my PhD dissertation on the morning of the 9th.

Good luck NinSage!!!

Going to take a pass myself. I've developed a serious dislike for Mario Kart 7. Finding the cheapness of the AI just very frustrating. I like unlocking things and doing all the cups but I hate coming in last or near the end just because the game sees fit to hit me with five different items. How well you drive simply doesn't matter. I think I just no longer have a tolerance for the style of game Mario Kart is anymore. Also not being able to get the boost right at the beginning of the race makes racing online worthless to me as well since I can forget about having a chance at winning or coming in near the front.

I think I'll just stick to straight racing games. Part of why I've enjoyed Ridge Racer 3D the way I have.

I fully intend to kick my fellow staffers' asses once again.

Mario Kart is an equal opportunity offender in multiplayer. Not everybody gets to be a winner, but everyone loses. It's MAD. Just roll with it and trash talk in IRC.

Also take the time now to sign up to 52-8882-2728-4207 as we may do some battling to take a break from racing. I will be there to help coordinate so we can get as many people into one game as we can. So be sure to login to IRC one way or another so you will know when a race is starting and we can wait for you to join. If your not in the IRC channel please do not start the games as you will leave people behind that are trying to join.

OblivionMay 04, 2012

I plan on joining this again.

I won't be going down without a fight, Miller

MannyponMay 06, 2012

Sweet, I haven't rode my kart in a hot minute.  I'll have to put a reminder in my phone to get on for some banana action.  Back during my prime kart racing days (around release) I was hard pressed to find people online to race so this should be fun.  See you all on the track :).

That was fun last time (despite the lashings I received).  I'll look to make myself available for this one too.

NachoCrunkMay 06, 2012

Take a whiff of my Bee power! Representin' to all Honey Queen racers!

LittleIrvesMay 06, 2012

Ooh. Will be a good excuse to sit back down behind the wheel. You guys should do a 1st-person p.o.v. gyro race every once in awhile, for grins. Maybe I'll see some of ya in a couple days...

ivanincubusMay 08, 2012

Oh boy. So exited!

MannyponMay 08, 2012

Its D-day.  I got to do some cleaning around the house then run a few practice laps in my kart around 830 to get the feel for the game again and off to the races at 9.  Hope to see everyone there tonight :).

We've got people in the chat ready to play right now, so come join in!

oohhboyHong Hang Ho, Staff AlumnusMay 08, 2012

Game Over Man, Game Over.

The night can be summarised as a fight for last place between Zach(Halbred) and Alex(Culafia). While a rivalry developed between me and Anna with a first place tie in the last GP, it was generally civilised compared to the savagery of the Pack™. There was a general lack of blue shells averaging around 2 per GP. Trash Talk was at an all time high with Alex leading that charge as Zach let the Hate flow through him resulting in some much needed yard work.

While early on, there was one individual fouling up proceedings by going the moment they join a game, once it got rolling, it was smooth.

Sorry Manny for dumping you with Nicholas, but he was really making a mess of things. Your sacrifice was not in vain.

MannyponMay 08, 2012

lol its all good, I had my fun, specially when we got 5 going on.  My first set of races before 9pm were good, really tight one on one races.  I can't remember who I was racing though.  Once the crowd joined in, I was getting my ass handed to me left and right and when I wasn't I was making crucial mistakes right in the final stretch lol.  Those are the breaks I guess.  I can't wait to try a race with the max amount of racers, that must be chaos lol.

EDIT:  Seing your screenname jogged the old memory it seems lol.  It was you I was racing one on one in the beginning I think.  Good racing man, those were some close heats, I think we ended that set both in 1st place lol.

OblivionMay 08, 2012

Oh crap, I forgot about this. Stupid Xenoblade. >.

oohhboyHong Hang Ho, Staff AlumnusMay 08, 2012

Yeah, that was me earlier. Nicholas was ruining any attempts to get a big game together. Since you weren't in IRC I couldn't tell you about the lobbies and status updates I was giving out to sync up as many players into one game as possible. Nicholas had cost us at least 2 big games. Then there were the auto starts and some fo the people freaked out by it. Nintendo never should have allowed just anyone to start a game besides the lobby leader. At very least it should have required a majority vote. Also Auto start, what were they thinking?!

Rosalina is the new HAWTNESS.

MannyponMay 08, 2012

Given that the game in question is Xenoblade, your forgiven Oblivion lol.

Hopefully next time we don't have anyone blowing thier load early on instead of waiting for the rest of the crowd to come in.  I was sitting there relaxing in the lobby, watching some basketball on tv, awaiting further racers, then next thing you know, the race counter was going down SMH.

By the way, I hope we have turn outs like this for Mario Tennis.  I hope they have tournament brackets too, that'll be sweet.

EDIT:  Your input is noted, I'll be sure to get in on the IRC the next time.  On a side note, I wish we could message each other instead of using those premade quotes.  Its hard to get any conversation going with those lol.

I wish there was a "If you start this game, I will kick your goddamn ass." option. It made the last time we played this very frustrating.

Hope everyone had fun. Sorry I missed it, but someone's got to review Mario Tennis and tell you how (bad) the online is.

Mannypon - your dreams of tournaments brackets are nice. All this game has is Exhibition and simple ranked matches. :(

MannyponMay 09, 2012

Fudge me man :(.  So in "bad" do you mean the online options are bad or that the game is laggy and unplayable.  If its still smooth online then that won't be too bad although the tournament brackets would've really brought this game up a tad.

MannyponMay 09, 2012

Sorry for the double post but I'm going to bed and I'm going to make this quick.  I'm thinking we can set up our own brackets with a dedicated thread.  All we need is to get all participants to "sign in" in the thread, exchange freind codes and then set up the bracket.  We'll then have our matches and update the thread with the winners and move on to the semi's and so on.  It should work.

Manny - I'm interested in doing that, but after the Kid Icarus tournament debacle (check some of the threads surrounding that), I have little interest in doing something large scale. On a smaller scale, sure. Even if the online sucks, I still dig this game.

MannyponMay 09, 2012

Hm, I'll have to look into this debacle lol.  As for tennis, we'll just have to wait and see how many people actually got the game and take it from there.  Even a tourney of just 8 people should be fine.  Anything larger will be a pain to keep track off and organize.  Should be better to coordinate now that we can send message to people on our friend list on the 3ds.  We'll get 8 people to exchange their codes, set up the initial matches and leave it the individuals to communicate through their 3ds on a time and date to play.  We'll update the thread accordingly with the results.  Rinse and repeat for the semi and then final.  Shouldn't be to hard IF everyone cooperates lol.

We can definitely fool around with it.

I can tell you this much, either 5/22 or 5/29 will be a Mario Tennis Open night. Likely 5/29 since the game doesn't hit Europe/Japan until 5/24.

oohhboyHong Hang Ho, Staff AlumnusMay 09, 2012

I know you guys don't have any video capture equipment or anything, but is it possible in future tournaments that we get the score and some words about the match from each of the players. Right now you have zero eyeball time if it wasn't for the debacle. Not asking for full on ESPN coverage here, just something.

To be completely honest: the tournament is for the players first. It's also tough to do any video capturing when we're not playing the games.

I was working on an article for this, but I had to deal with people spamming my entire world for two days.

oohhboyHong Hang Ho, Staff AlumnusMay 10, 2012

Naturally the tournament is about the players. But your giving away a lot of swag and not getting anything of it except a bit of grief. A bit of ego boosting after match trash talk from the players would be better than nothing.

OblivionMay 10, 2012

I'm confused. What exactly happened?

oohhboyHong Hang Ho, Staff AlumnusMay 10, 2012

The Kid Icarus tournament Bracket thread got hijacked by a person impersonating one of the players attempting to run a false flag operation to discredit the winning team. Neal caught on to them when he looked up the IP addresses. Far more drama and hits than the tournament generated. Also a lot of grief.

I think your over estimate how many hits that controversy generated...

OblivionMay 10, 2012

Yeah, especially when I hadn't heard about it.
