There is no escape from the Miitomo menace, but this week a renewed effort by the allies keeps evil in check. This allows for a more traditional (read: old) New Business. Guillaume leads off with his thoughts on the undeniably classic Yoshi's Story, now available on the long-forgotten N64 section of the Wii U Virtual Console. He follows up with a poke at WarioWare: Touched!, which is now available as a My Nintendo bonus. Jon gives us more thoughts on Miitomo, and a new mantra on life - "Stupid, not smart. Kids, take that to heart" - before updating us on his questionably-paced trek through Pokémon Yellow. Greg is trying to get himself ready for the impending release of Star Fox Zero by returning to the series' roots with Star Fox for the SNES (he's playing on original hardware, because that's the only way to play it officially). James closes out New Business with the most questionable of decisions: Project X Zone 2. Why did he buy a game he knows will make him crazy? Why is he playing it? Is he writing these questions in the hopes someone will save him from himself? Answers: No idea, No idea, Yes.

After an apology-worthy Now Playing segment it's time for Listener Mail. The Lords of Thunder were called for this week, but were apparently unable to answer their phones. Topics covered (slowly) include: future of emulation with console-specific hardware, RFN's in-jokes, should you sue Nintendo (yes), Zelda tech demos, and Nintendo's refusal to give us a proper Paper Mario game. You can send us your legal briefs via our inbox.

It's planning time for our next Retroactive, and this time we're turning our attention to Castlevania. We've somehow never featured a game in this legendary series, so it's time to solve this problem. We first need to select the candidates, so send us your suggested Castlevania games and we'll put out a poll in the next couple of weeks.

This episode was edited by James Jones. The "Men of Leisure" theme song was produced exclusively for Radio Free Nintendo by Perry Burkum. Hear more at Bluffs Custom Music.

Whoah Jay-Cheesy, you gonna stand for that?!

Loved the 105 interlude, the comedic timing of having the old intro music play, so good.

That Robobot vimeo is actually pretty awesome, less shakey cam and you'd have some serious film festival material on your hands.

I recall there is an unofficial PAX RFN episode where Jonny and crew play Magic the Gathering on the podcast, that's right an audio version of a card game.

"We need to get out of Guilaume's new business!"

truer words have not been spoken.

Radio Free Nintendo needs a promo spot by William Shatner or Robert Vaughn.

"Tell Nintendo YOU mean business!"

I'm not sure if I should recommend Super Castlevania IV because of its meaning to the platform, or dread recommending it because of the inevitable jokes about the limp whip technique.

I nominate Rondo of Blood for being the best Castlevania.  Might also be interesting to hear about the differences between the TG-16 and the PSP versions.

I can't speak for TTYD or Paper Mario fans in general since I've only played the first game, but I find it hard to believe that a good, but not as good as TTYD, Paper Mario RPG would be met with the same vitriol as Sticker Star. Bringing it back to you James - would a new entry in the Mega Man Zero series have to be as great as the best game in the original series? Or would you be happy with Capcom making a good game that was a faithful representation of the series, even if it didn't reach the lofty heights of your favourite entry? There's always going to be a "best game" in any given series and I don't think developers have to continually top themselves for fans to be happy. I get the feeling that most of the anger stems from a fundamental shift in the game design, but again, I could be wrong.

Also, as good as James has been as the new host, Jon and Jontomo need to host an episode real soon.

I echo Odeo's sentiment. Paper Mario has a fanbase that is fond of Mario RPGs- that's not exactly a massive, outspoken demographic (though judging by the comments in-episode, maybe it is), and I don't think it's one that would hurt the sales of the title, especially on Wii U, a system that was supposed to feature "games that satisfy the people who already own a Wii U". To put it bluntly, I'd rather see a Paper Mario that embraces the idea of just being an RPG- and like Guillame, having it be 25-ish hours (which is really the length of TTYD without it's mediocre sidequest system, I don't know what you guys are thinking) than a game that continues to attempt to alienate me.

However, we have discussed the brief trailers for this game extensively on the forums, and it may perhaps have some unplumbed depths to its combat system and focus on exploration, which would be fine with me. I'd rather it have an engaging combat system that at least doesn't revolve around consumable combat techniques than anything. The card system could be a repeat of that, but since cards aren't one-time use items in the real world, I can imagine a deck-based system instead, akin to BATEN KAITOS(?!). That might be a bit too hopeful, but it would be a drastic improvement from Sticker Star.

Ok I have to get this off my chest.

You guys mentioned Mortal Kombat on the SNES and said terrible because of the sweat instead of blood.

Has anyone ever even played the SNES version?

Does anyone even realize that the SNES version looked, sounded and played better compared to the Genesis version that needed a code for the blood?

While Mortal Kombat for SNES gets mocked i remember that game as being a very solid and superior port. It kills me when people who don't know anything but just the history of the censorship crap on that game when really besides the toned down content its actually the far superior version.

MK2 followed tradition and again was far far better but this time it got the credit due to the blood. Weird.

Always annoyed the hell out of me.

I'll second your recommendation, as I actually have access to the PSP version.

Play something on Wii U virtual console so I can join in! I've only played Order of Ecclesia and The Adventure 2: Belmont's Revenge, and I've played bits and pieces of Symphony of the Wind. I want to join in on the fun!

A quick search nets me the following on Wii U Virtual Console:

Castlevania

Castlevania II: Simon's Quest

Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon

Castlevania: Dracula X

Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance

Super Castlevania IV

I'd personally be fine with any but the NES games, I really can't go back and play those anymore without frustration, and think i'd be relying heavily on save states.

The titles on Wii such as Rondo of Blood or Adventure Rebirth are also permissible.

Mite000April 15, 2016

I would recommend Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, since was just made backwards compatible on Xbox One.

Otherwise I would say either the original, Super Castlevania IV, or Rondo of Blood on the PC Engine, since they're all on the Wii Virtual Console.
