It's been a very busy week on the RFN subscription feeds, with all three parts of the telethon recording as well as a remix of the epic 400th episode all added for our listeners. It has also been a good time for us to play games, especially with the lack of any formal New Business during last weekend's telethon, so now you get a double-dose of impressions for all the cool new games we're playing.

We start with a big overview of the Mario Kart 8 downloadable content, which brought Guillaume and Jonny both back into the online arena. Then, James catches up with Hyrule Warriors, and it's no big surprise that he loves the janky chaos and knowingly goofy action of this franchise mash-up. Jon tries The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, a new expansion of the disturbing action-roguelike that proudly wears its (original) Legend of Zelda influences and may finally be heading to 3DS after years of censorship drama. The podcast's first segment concludes with Jonny's early thoughts on Stealth Inc. 2, an extremely polished independent eShop game that is, at least for now, exclusive to Wii U.

But wait, there's more! New Business distends past the break to give us time for even more big games. Gui revisits Fantasy Life and reignites his debate with James over the best way to enjoy that addictive Level 5 joint. Then, we return at long last to Halo land with expert guidance from Lindy (even though he's not really a fan...) through the humongous new Master Chief Collection. Jonny shows some interest there, before swinging the pendulum hard back to Kirby Triple Deluxe, which turns out to be exactly what he wanted from this long-running Nintendo series.

We ran out of time for Listener Mail this week, but we'd love to hear your thoughts and questions on the recent announcements and latest game releases. Send 'em in and we'll run through a bunch of emails next time!

This episode was edited by Guillaume Veillette. The "Men of Leisure" theme song was produced exclusively for Radio Free Nintendo by Perry Burkum. Hear more at Bluffs Custom Music.

Talkback

Couple of minor things:
- You can do the Hyrule Warriors story mode in co-op - that was actually my first experience with the game. (Granted, I had a Pro controller.)
- Halo 2 did come out on PC, but it was an early Games for Windows game and required Vista at launch. Yeah, that didn't work out well for anyone. I'm not even sure if the matchmaking for Halo 2 PC works now that Games for Windows is dead.

'tis fun listening to the extended new business. Johnny's statements about combined movesets in Kirby Triple Deluxe makes me chuckle because that's been in Kirby games since Super Star! I made a hwole post in the "What Games are you playing" about that innovation to kirby games being the genesis for Smash Bros!

Super Star introduced the idea, but Triple Deluxe takes it farther by combining Fire and Burning, or Beam and UFO (minus the flying), and adding more character to powers like Throw by turning it into Beetle and expanding it with additional moves. In most previous Kirby games, only Fighter and Sword have so many different moves. It's nearly all of them in Triple Deluxe.

Maybe it was something patched in after Jonny played it, but when I got Binding of Issac on a steam sale, they had the same intro movie with the morbid story about the mother.  I find the game is an easy couple minute time waster, but I cant bring myself to explore it any deeper than that.  And I agree with the discussion over the "story" not quite matching the asthetic.  Granted, I take issue with several indie games trying to push vaugeness in narrative as a means of storytelling.

Hyrule warriors seems like the perfect game to rent for me, but where I live now has no brick-and-mortar rental stores, and I'm not about to start a subscription to Gamefly.  Looks like I'm stuck unless the game goes down to $20 or under at some point.

To activate the Master Sword shortcut in Hyrule Circuit, hit the three spin-boosters (now dressed as crystal switches) leading up to it.  It will disappear after a short time.  And, yes, Johnny, you CAN look behind you in Mario Kart 8.  Try pressing that mysterious button with an "X" on it. ;)

Yeah, I figured that out pretty soon after we recorded. Keep in mind, the DLC had been out for a few mere hours before we recorded.

And I don't think Jonny meant you can't look behind you, rather that you can't see whether or not the ramp is gone after you've taken it. When you look back the angle is such that you can't see that ramp.

you can do the burning fireball tackle in Superstar as Kirby's Running attack, or charge beam to let out a blast in it.The fact of the matter is that a lot of the move sets for abilities were lifted RIGHT out of Return to Dreamland, and Return to Dreamland lifted a lot of it's movesets out out Kirby Superstar, Johnny. Beetle is indeed new, and quite fun, might I add.

The game you're thinking of where Fighter and Sword had expanded movesets but not other powers like beam, burning, and fire is Kirby and the Amazing Mirror and Kirby Squeak Squad. I don't blame you for letting the facts bleed together because whatever higher being of power you believe in only knows how many games you have played over your life. I'm simply setting the facts straight for a series I am possibly even more fanatical about than Gui. Possibly.

Ha ha! I love Kirby's Rainbow Resort. I still use it and check it out from time to time. Back when Kirby's GC game went missing in action was when I used it most in the hopes they had some new detail about what happened to it. It's still a cool site.
