The gang is back together to answer your burning E3-related questions and prepare for next week's bonanza.

Greg and Jon reunite with James and Jonny, the latter two still recovering from E3. We nobly attempt to do a quick New Business, but discussions of late-game content in Galaxy 2 and the controversial Dead Space: Extraction develop just the way you'd expect. There's even a jaunt into 3DS talk when Greg ponders the effect of a 3D display on platformers.

The longer second segment is all about your emails, with lots of E3 follow-ups. We get into the Motion Control Warz, the true nature of Goldeneye, compatibility for PDP's Headbanger accessory, playing DS games on 3DS, and even our forum avatars. The show ends with a plea for your submissions to next week's DS retrospective and a last call for the Drunkcast Debacle contest. We also announce nominees for the GBA edition of RetroActive -- vote now!

We're always looking for great Listener Mail to read and discuss on the show, so please send your questions or comments! (We really love seeing your praise and feedback regarding the show itself; however, in the interest of time, we may edit your letter to be read on the podcast.)

I ran straight in here to suggest a title for 200: Two Double Bagel

You may commence groaning now.

Just tried to download from itouch (which I always do) and it said it wouldn't play on my ipod. Is this because I updated to os4?

YoshidiousGreg Leahy, Staff AlumnusJune 27, 2010

Having (as always) tested downloading and playing the file in iTunes, I encountered no problems on my end, but I'm not using anything with os4 running on it. Can you re-download the file to see if we can shed any more light on the nature of this problem?

It could have been us.  The site has been...well you know.

Anyway, the correct title for this episode is "James Was Right!"

NeoStar9XJune 27, 2010

Same. I have an iPod Touch with OS4 on it and got the message that it wouldn't play. It downloads in iTunes and plays just fine once transfered over though.

Thank you for using my question. I would have never understood the lamb so I had to ask.  I'll explain Denton, arlington in my DS story.

Attention ios4 and iPhone 4 users: I have uploaded a new version of the m4a file without AAC enhancements, which we think may be breaking compatibility in the new OS. Please re-download the AAC version and test it out. If it works, we'll do without enhancements until a work-around is available.

My version of iTunes just won't do it (and it's the latest version). I've downloaded it twice now, it takes forever to download both times, and when it finally DOES download, it won't play. I'll get the AAC version...

I really liked the part of the podcast where you guys talked about the virtual console. It has been kind of a shame that the servie has been slowing down in the past few years or so. You guys talked about how  old Enix games should come over to the VC service and I totally agree. But why stop with Enix games? I would not mind seeing such gems as Treasure of Rudras on the service to just name a few.

The most likely reason why the service is slowing has to do with the memory of the wii. If they keep going the memory debacle for the wii will start up again.

As for the games coming out for the 3DS, I hope that it is not just a bunch of remakes at launch, but a large assortment of franchises. For example, I would not mind seeing Dead Space iteration for the 3DS to coincide with the release of the sequel next year. This makes even more since considering that the 3DS will be released in 2011. Now, I am not talking about some kind of cheest rail shooter, but a third person handheld game set in the Dead Space Universe that looks almost like a handheld version of the HD games. Imagine being attacked by Necromorphs in 3D? That game would kick ass.

Is it just me, or does it sound like the game that James is giving away as a prize is King of Clubs?

The prize is a copy of King of Clubs for Wii, signed by James Jones. We announced it a few episodes ago.

I'm surprised and pleased to hear that someone thought highly of Goldeneye.  Maybe I've grown cynical, but it seemed from the get-go to be an obvious ploy for nostalgia, and all the talk before Jonny opened up about its quality only fed that cynicism.  Maybe I'll actually pick it up, although why there are three FPS' coming out in the same month (two from the same publisher!) is beyond me...

One question I had on the game that wasn't addressed: why is it only coming out for Wii if it has nothing to do, legally, with Rare's game?

Regarding Sony and Microsoft's motion controls, I have to admit that I'm unsure why they bothered, at this stage of the game, to mostly just ape what Nintendo's already done.  Microsoft in particular isn't even trying to hide it, which is especially sad since Kinect has more potential to do something different than Move; I would actually pick up Dance Central and that Konami game, for instance, and while lacking a controller is probably pretty limiting I'm sure someone with more skill and creativity than I could come up with something that's feels fresh.

On a related note, what was that about Move not being as good as Motion+ in all aspects?  I thought it was, literally, the same technology.

Regarding the Virtual Console, I'd love to get some more Enix classics on that service, especially Soul Blazer and Robotrek, but at this point I'd settle for Just Alright games from the friggin' Commodore64.  It's painful to watch how badly that service has been bungled...

Final thoughts: it's no surprise Linderman's changed his avatar: I don't remember ever seeing him online! ;)

I demand that Jonny discusses my masterpiece WarioWare DIY game on Episode 200.

Possibly because the big selling point would be the 4 player splitscreen (with lots of customization options apparently) which 360/PS3 players wouldn't utilize as much. Also because a PS3/360 game would be significantly more expensive to make.

Also, there's a lot less competition for first person shooters on the Wii than on the other consoles, and people who own the other consoles are more likely to have moved beyond nostalgia for GoldenEye toward other, more modern FPSs like Halo or Call of Duty.

This is the worst prize in the history of prizes.  This is like calling the Mongolians the "Publisher's Clearing House Prize Patrol."

You could make it even worse by including that Six Flags game too...

If I had the power to give out Karma I'd give you a point for that fantastic simile.

I am using an old first gen iPhone as an ipodtouch
I have the software, I think before the 3gs came out
have had no problems downloading from nwr to my
touch . However another site I can't direct download
their video podcast.
Greg, absolutely love what u do with the podcast.
Anyway for mp3 version u can put the picture thumb-
nails in shownotes?  Or is that only a wma feature?

Sadly, MP3 does support this feature.  I have no idea what Apple did with the iOS4 update that caused it to stop working.  I've done some research and to date I have no answer for you.

I will continue to search for this information, in the meantime I'm sorry to direct you guys to the MP3 feed.
