One world, one podcast, many developers.

RFN goes global for the final episode of 2008, as guests spread across three continents unite to see the year out in style. Greg and James are joined by both NWR Japan Correspondent James Charlton and Radio Trivia: Podcast Edition host Michael "TYP" Cole from the Land of the Rising Sun to discuss what they've been playing while being so many time zones ahead, and to digest the implications of Square-Enix's announcement that Dragon Quest X is in development for Wii.

After TYP offers us his impressions of Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World in New Business, the far-scattered crew takes on recession gaming and 8-bit resurrections in Listener Mail before settling down to a feature on the outsourcing of game development for beloved franchises. Good, bad, and just plain puzzling examples are given to preface a debate on the causes behind these various triumphs and failures, and whether or not outsourcing as a whole is desirable.

The whole RFN team hopes everyone had a great 2008, and looks forward to you joining us when Jonny, Jon, James, and Greg return in the New Year.

James Charlton is British?

He is fake British, that English accent is terrible. Greg is the only true British person.

Sorry guys after listening to some other podcasts and then listening to this one, NWR's podcast doesn't hook me anymore. It just doesn't seem entertaining anymore after listening to some other funnier and engaging gaming podcasts.

Sorry guys but I still love your podcast and it is still the best one going :P

Geez, why do I feel like I've sunken someone else's ship here?  :-[

I enjoyed you on the show. You guys are a tad bit more serious together but that is fine IMO. You have great discussions, and I did enjoy the final discussion.

My only problem with NWR's podcast is it's just feels like a run of the mill podcast that doesn't feel special and there really isn't anything that I can spot which makes it unique. There's nothing wrong with being serious but something just feels missing and I just got so bored of the podcast that I just shut it off.

Geez, someone point this guy to Episodes 103 and 115 and call it a day.  This crew has its share of wacky antics, but I like the more series episodes.  It's by far my favorite podcast right now, particularly when James goes on a rant.  ^_-

Flames_of_chaosLukasz Balicki, Staff AlumnusJanuary 02, 2009

Don't get me wrong some of the episodes are really good but some of them are really dull, it's like the quality is very inconsistent.

ShyGuyJanuary 02, 2009

Greg's sexy voice, Crimm being so angry, Lindy being so snide, and Jonny being so obstinate makes this more than the run of the mill podcast. Now stop lighting these flames, these flames of chaos!

GoldenPhoenixJanuary 02, 2009

I blame the fake british guy for Flame's comments. It is all that guy's fault with his poor accent.

ShyGuyJanuary 02, 2009

Has anyone recorded GP's voice from Animal Crossing Wii? I want to ridicule her speech patterns.

Flames_of_chaosLukasz Balicki, Staff AlumnusJanuary 02, 2009

Well so far my favorite podcasts are both from destructoid, retroforce go (Just an awesome episode) and podtoid, this one makes fun of Sony and Microsoft's attempt of trying to capture the casual audience and makes fun of the Spike Videogame awards.

GP doesn't use Wii Speak.

No. No. No. You have a good hosting podcast voice, Jonny does too. Not that the others don't, they just have better tag along voices. :) Your podcast is awesome and I'm sure this one is an okay episode once I actually listen to it.

Oddly enough those are all my least favorite things about the podcast (except for Greg's sexy voice, of course -- ooh la la!), but I still like it and I don't understand this sudden hate-on for it.

My favorite part recently is Greg's increasing perturbation when James runs a subject into the ground (such as the Boom Blox box art).

I shall heretoforth be known as the King of Snide.

BTW, the next episode was recorded next to James' deathbed.

DAaaMan64January 02, 2009

Your guy's anal-sis of Mario Kart Wii sucks. The motorcycles are amazing, the controls are amazing, and the levels are the best they've ever been.

The only thing that sucks is basshole mode.

I shall address this later today.

I really enjoyed your discussion on outsourcing games. I think everyone did a great job discussing the pros and cons for doing it. Overall, I thought it was a great episode.

ShyGuyJanuary 07, 2009

I need you guys to start releasing two episodes a week to fill my recently open podcast schedule. thx.

The link to the RFN 127 page is broken.  If you click on http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/podcastArt.cfm?artid=17450 it redirects you to the main NWR Podcast page.  The only way to download the episode from NWR is through the forums.

The page loads fine for me...

vuduFebruary 02, 2009

Hm ... it loads fine for me now, too.

Must have been a temporary problem.  That, or someone sneakily fixed the problem before you saw it!
