The grass is always greener on the side that has Disaster: Day of Crisis.

In the absence of NWR's resident fried rice-reheating authority Jonathan Metts, Persona podcast superstar Nick DiMola once again joins the rest of the regular RFN team, bringing with him news from the distant shores of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. Also in New Business: everything old is new again for Greg, Jon relives his youth in Age of Empires, and James is predictably outraged by his latest review copy, Tomb Raider Underworld.

After a listener mail follow-up segment to our Ocarina of Time anniversary special (Jon audio now included!) ponders the complexities of time travel and gender roles in the Zelda universe, the crew indulges in a bit of release schedule envy with a look at some of the notable games of 2008 released in Japan but not in North America. Everything from handheld music games to arcade fighters is on the unsettlingly long list, but one in particular prompts James to take matters into his own hands in the struggle to bring an end to America's deprivation…

Best commercial ever for Disaster!

Oh, goodie! I'll save this for the plane ride to Tokyo!

Great job, Crimm, both in how quickly you're getting these out and how great your Disaster bit was.

I seriously want to play Disaster, it is such a quirky and unique game that seems to be getting solid reviews.

Let's Tap and Let's Tap. Future Fapping game.

This was one of Crimm's best episodes. I liked it. That weird Skip thing with Crimm attempting speak japanese was pretty funny.

I can't wait to listen!

Regarding Tatsunoku vs. Capcom, something that does work highly in the game's favor for getting a release over here is that, defying my expectations, I haven't found any references to Macross characters or mecha being in the game.  It's odd because Macross is Tatsunoku's most famous work, but maybe they knew that if they did put a Macross character in that there would be a 0% chance of the game ever making it over to America.  This is because Harmony Gold in the US owns the rights to the Macross characters and mecha because of their (by virtue of using Macross footage) being in the Robotech anime.  This is something they've used for decades to ensure that no Macross property except Macross Plus (and the subtitled and newly-dubbed releases of the original Macross) has ever legally crossed over into North America (no toys, no games, nothing).  With no Macross in the game, Capcom can bring it over with far less legal difficulty.

lol i was thinking of DK64 before it was mentioned. Other 10-year stuff for '09: Beetle Adventure Racing!, DDR, Jet Force Gemini, Dreamcast, Tony Hawk, SSB, Superman 64

Or if you'd like to do a 15-year segment, there's Super Metroid, DKC, some decent licensed games: Lion King/Animaniacs/Jurassic Park (also arcade), Earthbound (Japan), Shaq Fu. Nothing quite as big as OOT except SM but a pretty good year overall nonetheless.

OMG Superman 64.  Classic stuff.

Super Smash Bros. would be a good one.
