Short, on topic, and informative? Not your average RFN!

The battle-hardened RFN team assembles once more to tackle the most pressing matters in Nintendo gaming today, beginning as usual with our (less than entirely) New Business. Jon teases us with the prospect of another long-overdue review while exploring the joys of reading on the go; Greg braves the perils of online Wii games with Pro Evo Soccer and Dr. Mario; Jonny gives us a sneak peek at the next Trauma Center for DS, while James continues to let Square Enix plunder his Wii Points.

Catching up with our backlog of emails in the second segment, we provide answers to the burning issues you care about, including: small developers we want to see working on Wii, Nintendo propaganda movies of the past, and the chances of a comeback for everyone's favorite gyroscope-holder, ROB. Also, the crew seeks closure by swapping war stories about reviewing awful games (no prizes for guessing James' picks), before ending with a look at the week's WiiWare and VC updates.

Sad so that means it isn't one of your best.  :(

Yeah, I know!  What the hell?

DAaaMan64June 14, 2008

Thank you crimm.  another good episode!

I can't wait to get home tomorrow to listen to this. I'm also honored to be quoted in DAaaMan's signature, though I'm not sure if he likes the quote or is mocking it.

those were the worst Lindsay Lohan Impressions ever guys.

Excellent episode.

My God, this is truly horrendous.  What is it with any promotional material from 1989-1991 looking like a C+C Music Factory or MC Hammer video?  It's brutal.  Full-screen text graphics were all the rage for two or three years.  They couldn't just overlay text on game video, it had to be "FULL SCREEN CD GRAPHICS" and "SCALING AND ROTATION" hitting you in the face every 10 seconds.  The only thing that would make this video more 1990 is if it featured Dwayne Wayne (note: not the same as Dwyane Wade).

EDIT: Note that I wrote that before I saw the horrible "Make Your Own Video" with Kriss Kross and C+C Music Factory.  Man, I wish I would have went to sleep in 1988 and awakened in 1992.  Those were four lost years as far as pop culture was concerned.

EDIT 2: Black Hole Assault looks like possibly the worst game ever.

"Twice the electronic stuff of the Genesis alone."

THAT SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION HAS ME SOLD!

To go along with the old commercials part of the podcast. I remember and found the old Super Mario 64 "got milk?" ad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1vM3xIUe9s

Dan_FlyhightJune 15, 2008

Alright I apologize for the double post, but I found the greatest thing on youtube for old commercials. This is a compilation of a bunch of N64 commercials for their time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADND53b8KMM&feature=related

ShyGuyJune 16, 2008

The Lindsay Lohan commercials were good, Reminded me of the Robot Chicken Lindsay Lohan Highlander bit.

First "trapped" developer I thought of was also Vicarious Visions, although I would put Raven Software on the list as well.

GoldenPhoenixJune 16, 2008

I was surprised none of you guys brought up Ready at Dawn, they have shown they are a very good developer with licensed properties.

I didn't read the email in advance last monday.  I really had no idea what was coming.  I probably would have thought about them if I had.

animecyberratJune 16, 2008

I forgot, what games did they make again?

Off the top of my head they made Daxter and God of War for PSP. In addition to that they ported Okami to Wii.

Just a head's up. I recorded 103 with the boys (along with a special guest who I won't name because I dunno if James wants it to be a surprise) last night, and it was probably the most fun I've had doing a podcast in ages. I hope you guys will enjoy it, too. :)

animecyberratJune 17, 2008

Ok well I was aware of the Okami port but that was it, I don't bother reading what's on PSP, I assumed it died already or keep hoping it will any day now.

editing underway

DAaaMan64June 17, 2008

badass.  I have flight on friday if you wanna get it out on thursday ;)

Editing not started: waiting on audio.  I'll do my best to have it out on Thursday.

Recording 103 was a riot.  I think it's the most fun I've had recording a podcast so far.  I was laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes.

You mean you actually made, at the very least, sounds? Amazing! ;)

Lindy not only made noises, but probably made one of the defining jokes of the show. You guys'll know what I'm talking about when you hear it.

They'll hear it whenever I get audio from Stan...

Fixed.

I just wanted to point out that Vicarious Visions is wholly owned by Activsion.

Being owned by Activision should not mean that VV forfeits all opportunities to create their own original IPs.  Those IPs will just (probably) be owned by Activision.  The problem, I'm sure, is getting a risk-averse mega-publisher to green light such a project.

Also, I noticed upon listening to the show that I called it Ep. 103.  Whoops!  After hearing teases about the real 103, I really can't wait to hear what happened with Karl and Stan joining the crew.

Oh, I made noises alright.  I'm sure my jokes will be something I'll regret one day.

Where was this joke-of-the-ages?  Golden Shower Golf?  I thought Stan deserved more credit for that one.

What happened Pale's review of My Pokemon Ranch that was mentioned in this show?

Heh, I think it's ALMOST ready.
