THIS IS WHERE THE NEWSPOST GOES

Holy Hell they got pissed this time.

Wow look at this place; the nostalgia is rushing back to me. I haven't written a newspost for Radio Free Nintendo since 06! Wow. Well gang, I'm not on this podcast (lucky you); instead it's got the three main gang, arguing like I've never heard them argue before.

I mean holy crap: Jonny gets tired and pissy, then pisses off Karl, who CUTS TO A COMMERCIAL instead of continuing the discussion. It's like reality TV.

This ep the gang discuss all the reader responses regarding last week's Zelda feature. There are lots of thoughts included here, and if you agree (or disagree) please e-mail us or speak up in Talkback.

And let us know what your favorite Zelda dungeon is.

This podcast was edited by Karl Castaneda. (BUT THE NEWSPOST WAS BY EVAN BURCHFIELD WOOT)

Music for this episode of Radio Free Nintendo is used with permission from Jason Ricci & New Blood. You can also purchase their album directly from the iTunes Music Store

BTW, I really do say pwn in real life. It's more of an ironic, self-mocking type of "pwn" instead of actually saying "wow, get pwned." ....or maybe I do both.

Talkback

You may have posted it, but you forgot the ODEO. GUEST POSTING MISTAKES!

This podcast is dedicated to sore losers.

Tigris AltaicaOctober 11, 2007

Is this all zelda talk?

Karl Castaneda #2October 11, 2007

There's some continued discussion in the feature, but nothing of the sort in the first two segments.

GoldenPhoenixOctober 11, 2007

Where are the pictures for Sega Bass Fishing for Wii?

Tigris AltaicaOctober 11, 2007

Ah, perfect. I shall listen in tommorrow.

LOL those are really terrible, that second picture from the left looks like a boot or something, not a fish. PSone would be proud!

ShyGuyOctober 11, 2007

I didn't see Karl's apartment, it just stayed a picture of an envelope. What's the deal?

Karl Castaneda #2October 11, 2007

Ah crap. I knew I forgot something. My bad, ShyGuy. I'll take a quick pick and post a picture of my place in the thread.

ShyGuyOctober 11, 2007

Hey, is there going to a special E for All podcast with Windy and TYP talking about their impressions of games?

GoldenPhoenixOctober 11, 2007

You guys better give us a full description of the gameplay modifying options in SSB:B, I want to know! Then again you may not be able to tweak or look at them.

Karl Castaneda #2October 11, 2007

Here you are.

dormroomca2.jpg

And yeah, we'll be at E For All, providing you with Smash Bros. impressions and all that good stuff.

Edit: As for a podcast, there won't be dailies like there were with E3. Just a regular round-up on the regular show.

that Baby guyOctober 11, 2007

Geez, Karl, up at 4:00? Hope you don't have classes tomorrow. As for whether or not I know anyone you know, I probably don't. I checked all my facebook FSU friends, and there were no Casteneda's in sight on their lists. You must not be making enough friends around there.

ShyGuyOctober 11, 2007

Get a shave you hippie!

Karl Castaneda #2October 11, 2007

I have late classes on Fridays, so I can sleep in. And about four feet to the left of that photo, my roommate is sleeping (had to take a really quick picture). As for Facebook, I'm not really that into it. I only have maybe 50 friends on there. And most of the people I know at UF I just talk to on the phone or on AIM.

I dunno, I guess the whole social networking thing isn't meant for people like me.

Oh, and for the record, it's Castaneda. Not Casteneda.

EDIT: Yeah, seriously, I need to shave. That beard stopped being socially acceptable like four days ago. I'm just really lazy about it.

vuduOctober 12, 2007

Good podcast over all. I can do without Karl getting all preachy, but I won't hold it against him. I agree with Jonny.

I'll let you guys off the hook because you recorded this on Monday and maybe the news wasn't out at that point, but the reason Halo DS looks go good is because it was running on the Golden Eye Rouge Agent engine. Since we don't have an exact time line of when Halo DS was being pitched, it's hard to say for certain but either:

A) the game eventually turned into Rouge Agent
B) the creators used the Rouge Agent engine to make a demo for Halo DS during their pitch to Bungie
C) the entire thing is a hoax and someone just added some skins and basic levels to Rouge Agent to make a mock-up of Halo

Regardless, chances are the "big unnamed developer" is most likely EA.

Also, how old is Obi? It says on his bio page that he's 23, but it doesn't look like that page has been updated for at least a year.

GoldenPhoenixOctober 12, 2007

It being a hoax is ridiculous, I believe even Bungie confirmed it was real. Also where was it confirmed it was running on Rogue Agent's engine? The only place I seen that was some dork comparing it to Rogue Agent.

vuduOctober 12, 2007

I'm referring to the same dork. But the common features he points out are so glaringly obvious I can't imagine he's wrong.

Just because they modded an engine to look like Halo doesn't make it a hoax. That's an easy way to create a mock-up for a pitch to a publisher.

From IGN Staffer Craig's Blog:

Quote

...
I can completely validate Matt's claim that Nintendo handheld Halo was being considered by Microsoft. A few years ago, I had insiders from multiple development studios telling me about a "secret project" they were pitching Microsoft on...which turned out to be Halo for Nintendo handhelds.

When I had posted a story about Halo coming to GBA/DS, that's when everything came crashing down. The next day I was assaulted from every side imaginable: Microsoft, Bungie, and the dev studios who were working on the project. Producers from all development studios freaked out that I violated their trust...none knowing that their project was also being pitched by other studios. Hell, one development studio I had no prior relationship with contacted me and requested where I got the information from so they could plug the leak...confirming that Microsoft was secretly working with yet another studio I didn't even know about.
...
Casamassina has absolutely no reason to pull one over on you. What he and Bozon are playing is clearly a proof of concept from a developer that has previously worked on a first person shooter for the Nintendo DS. To get the demo working as quickly as possible, the team most likely took the engine and tweaked it with Halo assets to show Microsoft that Halo DS could work...complete with the Wireless support that the team used in whatever game they worked on.
...

vuduOctober 12, 2007

Well, in all fairness I did list that as the third option. It is a possibility and therefore needs to be included.

vudu, the DS version of Rogue Agent wasn't developed by EA but by n-Space, the Geist studio.
