Do you like Metroid? Because I know somebody who does.

Wu-Tang is for the children!

We usually record Radio Free Nintendo on Sundays, but since this past weekend was Easter, we decided to delay getting together a day so that we could all be with our loved ones. Apparently the festivities went long, however, as only Jonny was available on Monday evening.

Even though we were recording with only two men, there's still a ton of ground covered, from new VC releases to the latest on Resident Evil 4 Wii / Umbrella Chronicles to why Metroid Prime 3 is taking so long to release. It's a jam-packed episode that is a must-listen, if only to hear about my traumatic childhood experience with Galaga.

Talkback

I listened to this episode for the Metroid talk, and ate it up. :b Definitely agree that all the NPC interactions we've heard about in 3 seem a bit off for a Metroid game. In fact, I found talking to that luminoth (or whatever they were called) guy in MP2 to be kinda pushing it. I just hope they don't end up inadvertently spoiling what makes Metroid so unique in their efforts to give the series a wider appeal.

TrueNerdApril 11, 2007

I like Metroid! Does that mean I'll like Radio Free Nintendo?

Karl Castaneda #2April 11, 2007

Smoke, I'm really glad you liked it, and the fact that it drew you into RFN (even if it's only once) is fantastic. Hopefully we'll be able to offer you more stuff in the future that'll also grab your attention. face-icon-small-smile.gif

As for you, Nate, perhaps not. Whenever Jonny's not on, our attitude is that Metroid is terrible, and that Samus should be burned at the stake.

(Totally untrue! Do not kill me, please!)

Karl, it's comments like this that make me lose respect for you as a person and a staff member.

JOKE! Welcome to NintendoEmoReport.com

I think you're in the wrong Talkback thread. ;-)

Unfortunately.... yeah, Metroid is dead. Nintendo killed it. Just like Zelda, except at least THERE the series had some dignity. Here it doesn't even know the end is coming slowly, creepingly, inevitably.

Btw this is my new favorite episode. Karl and I were both on fire that night. There is a tightness to our banter that's much harder to do when there are three or four people on Skype.

ShyGuyApril 12, 2007

How do you spell the name of the old PC game?

TrueNerdApril 12, 2007

OMG, can you seriously do the sequel to this week's episode next week? I could have listened to Jonny go on about Metroid for HOURS. Great stuff. The rest of the show was really solid too and it is all because, as Jonny just said, you two have developed a solid chemistry. Maybe three's a crowd with RFN, who knows.

Karl Castaneda #2April 12, 2007

There's been a lot of positive response to the Metroid talk, so I think it's very likely that we'll re-visit it in the future. But next week's episode will surely host a lot of talk about Super Paper Mario.

ShyGuyApril 12, 2007

And Super Swing Golf?

AlfonseApril 12, 2007

About 16:9, FYI: movies aren't filmed in any particular ratio either. They do pretty much whatever they want.

16:9 means that you're a lot closer to the average movie's ratio than 4:3.

I think it was Zelyon or Zelyan.

Make sure to get Evan involved. It's pretty much mandatory, considering he didn't shut up about the game for like fifteen podcasts. face-icon-small-happy.gif

Karl Castaneda #2April 13, 2007

Knowing Evan, he'll probably pass it up to wax poetic on bad movies for homeless people.

I'm cool with that too.

EDIT: And have YOU played it yet, Karl? I'm dying to know what you, hater of both previous Paper Marios and SMRPG, think of this latest masterpiece. Have you redeemed yourself? Or have you confirmed once again that you wouldn't know what awesome was if it bit you in the ass?

*You didn't think your anti-Metroid comments would go unnoticed, did you? face-icon-small-wink.gif

Karl Castaneda #2April 13, 2007

Alas, I just don't have the cash to purchase the game yet. I've got a couple reviewables on the way, though, and when I trade that in, I should be able to push my store credit high enough to buy SPM. So you probably won't hear about my experience with the game this week - maybe next time?

IGN's Rock Band comment came from Rigopolous, not EA.

Thanks for the shout out guys, and Jonny always has great observations about the Metroid games. The interview we did with Retro last year will always be one of my favorite NWR moments.

You know, guys, you could have asked me to join this week's podcast. I have played Super Paper Mario.

oohhboyHong Hang Ho, Staff AlumnusApril 15, 2007

I am too hardcore for you guys. I for one like Starfox SNES over Lylat Wars. This is due to the fact that there was a level of chaos that just wasn't there in LW. LW had lost that bite, sure there was more on screen, but most of the stuff was harmless, formation flying target pratice.

Still to hardcore for you.

I'm listening late, but I just wanted to put out my prediction that BOTH Galaxy and Brawl will be delayed. face-icon-small-smile.gif

IceColdApril 19, 2007

Uh oh, memories of November 19th.....

I still say that Brawl will be delayed, but Galaxy will be in time for the holidays. Well, unless Wiis are still sold out everywhere; in that case, Galaxy will be delayed to have a bigger effect in terms of selling systems.
