This week we have a special episode of Radio Trivia hosted by Jonathan Metts and myself. First off, we have six games this week. Secondly, all six games, including most songs and questions, were hand-picked by NWR forum mafia winners 18 Days and Thatguy. Sit back and enjoy the music or challenge your game knowledge—it's your call!

Love a game or song choice? Think something could have gone better? Critique your fellow listeners' picks in the Talkback thread! Even better, pick your own game and send it my way—your request may show up as the third game next Radio Trivia: Podcast Edition! Heck, throw in a question and specific songs if you want. Just remember, it has to be a game found on a Nintendo system in North America!

Don't forget to check back with us next week when we play the live version of Radio Trivia in our chatroom. If you like this, you'll probably like the live version even more!

Well, I was able to guess all of the games this week. Too easy. Your people should pick better songs.

KhushrenadaMay 04, 2007

The much bally-hooed podcast is finally here! Excellent.

Wow. That's an interesting mafia description. The one with probability was Pale's awesome game.

18 Days songs: The first game I had never played and didn't recognize ant of the songs although I really liked that second song. That was different and interesting.

The second game SA2:Battle, do I need spoilers for this game? Well, I'll do it anyways. I recognized the first sone but could not place where I had heard it from. Then with the second song, it clicked right away. That was the Chao Karate, was it not? I liked how you realized that it would be an obvious game with the music so you just went with a difficult question instead. Also, you set it up for the commentary on the third song. The funny thing is after the setup and listening to it, I didn't think it was that bad. The music is actually rather soothing. It's the horrible lyrics that are awful. It should have been set-up as the worst lyrics ever. Frankly, I thought there was another song in SA2 that was worse. Maybe I'll dig out my copy tonight and see if that's true or if I just have a faulty memort.

The third game I was sort of expecting since you made a comment about it when you signed up for the mafia game. I didn't recognize it at first but the hint question gave it away. The other problem being the fact that I've never played the first game, only Monkey Ball 2.

Thatguy's songs:

Didn't have a clue for the first game until Jonny started surmising what it might be. As soon as he said Pacman, Pacman VS. is what I thought of also. I did however guess the hint question correctly. I just felt that since it was on a specific person, there's not a lot of people who do voice acting that it would have to be someone pretty well known. and the most known voice actor to Nintenco fans is Charles Martinet.

The second game I was able to guess from the hint question but it was the only game I could think of based on it and even then, it didn't seem right to me. But then again, I've never been able to play this game. I will someday. Oh yes. Someday, it will be mine. I assume TYP is referring to AussieBen. Whatever happened to him? I never seem him around anymore. Sounds intriguing.

The third game I never had a chance. Never played, never heard of the songs and barely know anything about the series.

All in all, I thought this went really well. I also liked how Jonny was playing along to guess the games also. I'm not sure why. It just added this wonderful element to the game. Like you and a friend were working on trying to figure it out together or competing with one another. Normally, TYP and the co-host seem to know what everything is in advance and how to put it? I guess it can feel like they're just waiting to play the songs and make the comments about the games after. Whereas with Jonny playing along, it seemed to add more of a spirit to the game and opened up more conversations while listening to each track.

I'm interested to see how the listener requests turn out. TYP, do you think you should post a rule about what songs are acceptable for the podcast if you are going to let people make a list of which songs to play for a game they choose? (Depending on if they even want to choose the songs.) I may give it a shot here and there also.

Getting back to game 2, it might be fun every once in awhile to just play music from a game that is totally obvious but just comment on the tracks and give a harder hint question. It added a lot of fun to the proceedings and was one of the best parts of the podcast. The other being Jonny singing.

Well, that's all I can remember from the show and can think of commenting on.

It is nice when both hosts have songs/games they can talk about. The best way to make sure that happens is for both hosts to pick games/songs, which means hosts are not be in the dark. Fortunately, Jonny was familiar with many of the game choices this time and things worked out well. I suppose I could keep my/reader picks a secret from the co-host, but it's nice (for balancing difficulty and variety) if everyone preparing trivia knows the picks.

As for posting song choice rules, I could spell out how I try to avoid licensed tracks, but honestly I don't have to honor a request I don't like. If I like a game but not a song choice, I can throw in a different song.

KhushrenadaMay 04, 2007

You are wise, sir.

Yes, for whatever reason, I was thinking a request would be automatically granted and not subject to review.

I understand the balancing issues but maybe you could compare with someone else. For instance, if Jonny is hosting, maybe you can go over the songs with Windy and vice-versa. I still like the spontaneity that you had with this podcast.

CalibanMay 04, 2007

Pig, bear, chicken...I think that is the correct order in Cubivore. No ducks.

that Baby guyMay 04, 2007

Auugh! You're right, Caliban. My memory failed me! I apologize Radio Trivia Podcast listeners. I made a mistake. The answer on the question was going by looks in the game, I always confused the last birth with the animal I said. And even then, I got the order wrong! Sorry, TYP and radio listeners, I made a bit of a mistake.

Hmm, honestly it's my mistake for not double-checking your facts, too. Sorry guys!

Lady UneMay 04, 2007

Thatguy, why did you not check to make sure you were correct in this? Especially if you "always confuse" those animals? It seems to me if I knew there was an area I had trouble remembering, I would make sure to doublecheck myself. Why did you fail to do so?

TYP, how much do you think this will affect the integrity of the Trivia Podcast? If those who are making this game can not even get their own answers correct, how are we supposed to give them any credibilty on other matters, such as when they give their opinions on a game? Why was there failure on three fronts to not notice this answer was incorrect? Thatguy, yourself and then Jonny who also played the game are the three fail safes, yet they all failed. How do you explain this disaster? Will you have to step down as host of Radio Trivia? How do you respond to the calls to have Radio Trivia investigated by the House Committee of NWR?

that Baby guyMay 04, 2007

Well, actually, I had planned to check, at the same time I checked for the last game, but then I forgot that I hadn't already checked the second one. It really isn't a big deal, though, just a one time thing of minor consequence. I shouldn't have forgotten about all of that, but it happened. I have no real excuse. Even if TYP tries to take some of the blame, it really was my fault. Anyways, TYP delivers a quality program, through podcast and through the actual trivia game in the chat room. He finds rips of the songs, and his question have all bee accurate as far as I've played the game. Obviously, had he done this alone, he wouldn't have made the mistake, and your random ramblings about integrity are unfounded, as I will probably never have influence in the trivia of these games again. I know you're just joking, because of the funhouse, but I think it is important to let people know that I really was the screw up here, that this was a trial run for player-influenced games, and that this doesn't happen in Radio Trivia on any sort of regular basis.

wanderingMay 04, 2007

Yay! Finally.

Good picks, 18 days and thatguy. Good hosting, Jonny and TYP.

I have to agree with Jonny about Follow My Rainbow, or whatever it's called. I always, guiltily, enjoy it when I hear it.

I couldn't decide whether the third game was Timesplitters 2 or Super Monkey Ball until I heard the hint question.

I didn't get any of thatguy's songs.

Hello there, favorite poster.

18 DaysMay 10, 2007

Somehow I missed this update. I hope you all enjoyed the Pumpkin Hill rap song. Best song ever. I want Nelly to cover it.

Also I kept nagging for Top Gear 3000 to be featured. NO ONE would've gotten it. but turns out that game is so obscure, music was not availible.

What! how could Johnny no know 1080! and worse still "this is only a test" are incredibly memorable lyrics!

that Baby guyMay 10, 2007

I had Top Gear Rally. I loved that you could damage the vehicles, but it didn't mess up their performance, or at least, that's what I thought then. I'd just play and try to crash as much as possible.
