Old and new fans can experience Sonic's first four Genesis adventures on Nintendo's portable next year.

Sega announced that Sonic Classic Collection – featuring Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and Sonic & Knuckles – is coming to the Nintendo DS in spring 2010.

Along with the four Genesis games, Sonic Classic Collection will incorporate a save feature for all the games, a first for the first two entries in the series. There will also be a video that gives players an in-depth look at the history of Sonic the Hedgehog.

"The Sonic Classic Collection will introduce a whole new generation of gamers to this beloved Hedgehog and take them back to his humble beginnings," said Sean Ratcliffe, vice president of marketing for Sega of America.

There is no word on whether or not the game will make use of the lock-on technology present in Sonic & Knuckles, which added bonus content to the other three games.
