The Wii version of the GameCube title will be a Gamestop exclusive.

Natsume has confirmed that the Wii version of Harvest Moon: Magical Melody is coming to North America as a Gamestop exclusive title. Set for a late August release, Magical Melody features motion controls for many of the activities, including fishing, mining, and foraging, but eliminates the option of playing as a female character. The rest of the game plays exactly like the GameCube release. The original Japanese version was released on March 14, 2008.

What's with all the pointless remakes lately?  It's not like the core harvest moon games have changed dramatically over the years, and what's the point of removing the ability to play as a female character from what was pretty much an already finished game (save to re-release the game AGAIN 6 months->1 year later with the option reinstated)?

It's also yet another glorified port to Wii of a game from last generation.  Will this ever end?

This isn't even a remake, it is akin to the New Play Control! series.

I'm outraged.

More than you know. In Europe it was never even released on the GameCube. The GameCube was basically already dead (some stores had even started taking GameCube games off their shelves), so Natsume scrapped the GameCube game and released it as a Wii title instead.

It's been out in Australia for well over a year now. It never mentioned anything about "New Play Control" on the cover, I think that just applies to first party Nintendo games.

I am PO'd at them removing the ability to play as a female character. My sisters both like this series and would prefer to play as girls. That is something that should have never been removed once it came to the series, let alone purposefully going out of their way to remove the code that was already there.  ???

Oh well. Harvest Moon is dead to me. Rune Factory FTW.

It's not part of the series. Since the GameCube was already good as dead in PAL regions, Natsume decided to scrap the GameCube release there and port the game to the Wii. So that was nothing more than a port of a GameCube game, this will be a full remake.

THIS.

FIST!

I just started playing RFF (my first RF title) and I can't see myself going back to HM, aside from nostalgic trips to HM (SNES) and HM64. Everything I played after those pretty much sucked (though I still wanna check out FoMT for the GB(A?) since i hear thats pretty good too. I wouldn't mind a good HM on the go.

I completely agree. SNES, N64 and maybe FoMT along with RF are all I need.
