Considering the service's pathetic & inconsistently supported  feature set so far, I find myself echoing the teacher in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure:

"Oh, and Nintendo? That Direct of yours had better be REALLY special."

We still know only 10 of the 20 NES games being "offered" at launch, right? 

I hate admitting it, but i'll probably be biting the bullet and paying for the subscription at launch.  I play just enough MarioKart and Splatoon online to justify the $20/year.

That coupled with Smash Bros in a few months...

I rarely play online, but I’m willing to try Nintendo Switch Online for $20 a year.

My friend is actually going to buy a family account and add on several friends to it which includes me, so I won't actually be paying for it myself. Not with money anyway...

A friend suggested going in on a family account. I passed since I wasn’t sure if my Switch/account can be split from the account holder’s if I ever wanted to just have one on my own in the future.

Know it's Mop it up I presumed the service would be paid for in free house cleaning and floor mopping!

I'll be day one since it's a reasonable price and I really want the cloud saves. I'm also banking on more features coming in the near future. Universal voice chat would be great.

I strongly prefer local multiplayer because of the social aspect. Having an in-person conversation while playing adds to the shared experience. However, I haven’t lived with my brother in over a decade, and I’m in my mid-30s so most of my friends are too busy making and raising people to be bothered playing games. Is there an OkCupid but exclusively for friends?

I’m aware if I want to play multiplayer games, I’ll have to make do online due to the lack of local options. It’s sometimes difficult because I fit gaming in when I can. I don’t have a set schedule for when I’m available. It’d have to be planned ahead of time, and I’d pencil it in on my calendar. Who does that though? With friends list, people just send a message. I often play at weird hours.

I don’t really like playing against completely anonymous randos. They may as well be CPUs especially if there’s no real interaction. Nintendo has been weird with voice chat which didn’t help things on that end.

Oh this is gonna be a glorious wreck. Excited! I'll probably pay for a year just to see how it pans out. Probably the family plan as well to give my buddies an in just to see.

Also, I've noticed they added 2-factor authentication to the Nintendo Account. I couldn't get it to work though.

You'd think Nintendo would have seen the negative reception they got when they announced this months ago and changed course, added some value to the subscription, so hopefully that's something that gets announced during the direct.

This is going to be a disaster, and in any other context it would be a complete failure. But because it's Nintendo it will still sell.

People want Nintendo to succeed despite nearly two decades of ihavenoideawhatimdoingdog.jpeg when it comes to the internet. I’m setting my expectations extremely low. The price of entry is low enough to try. It’s so weird that we keep giving Nintendo chances. You’re right; it’s “because Nintendo.”

Seriously, I don't get how Nintendo thinks a rented selection of 20 mostly-terrible NES games is a selling point for this service.

so let me get this straight you want me to a) pay for my OWN internet (don't give me that sony and ms do it so it makes it ok bs)

Honestly, it feels like Nintendo decided they should start charging for online since free online play didn't seem to be helping them gain much in sales from that stance. But then they just sort of let the market decide what to charge. As soon as it was announced that there would be paid online, within a week people were throwing out the amount of $20 per year and then people were like, well, I guess that's not TOO bad. Did Nintendo really know a year and a half ago that $20.00 would be the price yet still had so many other details of the service undecided that they still don't even know what they special offers will be? It just seems like the internet reached a consensus of $20.00 and then Nintendo decided to just run with it to compete against the higher cost of MS and PS services.

Internet should have tried to bargain more. Maybe we could have got it down to Nintendo paying us $20.00 a year to use their voice app.

I would be fine with it if each game had a dedicated server, you know like EVERY sony and ms game? but no, it's still peer2peer.

Lots of PlayStation and Xbox games are peer-to-peer.
