DSi Shop Winding Down Over Next Year

Most of the content is already on the 3DS eShop.

The DSi Shop is about to enter its last days.

Nintendo has announced that DSi points can no longer be added to DSi systems as of September 30, 2016, with a full shutdown including the inability to download purchases after March 31, 2017.

Nintendo's notice recommends transferring the games to a 3DS, and the games will still be sold on the 3DS eShop - only the DSi shop itself is affected.

That sucks for anyone that has a DSi, but not a 3DS!
Does it really cost that much for them to keep the DSi shop open?

Not the DSi Shop! Anything but that. Take my Animal Crossing Amiibo Card collection. Take my three children. Take Insanolord's mod powers. Take whatever you want. Just let the DSi Shop live!!!!  :'( :'( :'(

Seems reasonable, you have a year to buy anything you haven't already bought and most of the games can still be bought using the 3DS. If it was the Wii Shop Channel it'd be a different story but luckily that's not the case. My favourite DSi ware game is probably Pyoro.

"Enter it's lass days", DSi ware is now a girl deal with it. *Black specs fall from the sky.

DSiWare was really disappointing to me, on the whole, with a few standout exceptions. I didn't download many games because the DSi's internal memory was so piddly, and I was always waiting for a Virtual Console that didn't rear its head until the 3DS came around. I'm surprised that the DSi Shop has survived this long. Nintendo's doing the right thing here, and at least DSiWare games will continue to remain available via the 3DS.

So... What about remaining DSiShop point balances?

finally time for me to buy Mighty Milky Way.

I really like this game. Might just be my favourite of the "Mighty" games.

Also, for those interested, DSi has a pretty good version of Puzzle Quest and it is pretty cheap. Sound compression is not great but the rest is good and it's actualy a fun RPG (for a match 3 game).
I also recommend Dark Void Zero - a fun little action shooter.

It feels a bit early for this, but then again one of the points of digital shops is to have an off switch. It makes me wonder if the Wii shop will soon follow, and the transfer process there is messier (and could potentially cost money).

The DSi came out in November 2008, that seems long enough IMO. And I am not sure how many people own a DSi, but not a 3DS. It's not like people can't still buy the DSiWare games, they just won't be able to on the DSi itself.

I think the only two times I ever went to the DSi shop were when I first got a DSi and to download Flipnote Studio.

I used the free credit they gave you, but I never bought anything. The 3DS eShop is so much better, I have bought a lot of stuff from there.

Cards are supposed to be redeemable for eShop credit (at least in the UK), but balances? Might have to use 'em or lose 'em.

DSiWare had a very poorly designed shop front, but there were some very decent games available through the service!

I would definitely recommend Alpha Bounce, Alt-Play Anthology (although this won't appeal to everyone), Art Style Pictobits, Dark Void Zero, Pop Island, Puzzle Quest, Shantae, Starship Defense, and Undead Storm - although it's a shame that last one didn't support download play for multiplayer modes.

Are all of those games available on 3DS eShop? Most probably are... I never really checked to confirm.

The version of Tetris Party Live that is no longer available was fantastic and priced very aggressively - shame it's been replaced by more expensive, but less well put together, versions.

There's also Flipper and Escapee Go, the latter of which I will very highly recommend.

Go Go Kokopolo was a great game on there that got pulled in 2014.

Also I miss animated home screen icons. Why don't we have animated home screen icons, we need more animated home screen icons. This is a thing and we need it.
