My Nintendo Now Live Worldwide: Miitomo Launched As Well

Why is there a Gold reward for spending $97+ on an eShop game?

Miitomo has launched in Australia and New Zealand, but the world can see My Nintendo now.

The rewards program went live overnight (U.S. Eastern time), and the big exclusive rewards are the previously announced Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess Picross and WarioWare Touched. All members can also claim a code for Flipnote Studio 3D at sign-in - in North America, there is no point cost. Europe's rewards are similar to Japan's, while North America substitutes a Captain Toad for the yet-unreleased Metroid: Other M.

Missions are available which include linking social networking accounts to Miitomo and My Nintendo, as well as for accessing the eShop and Miiverse once per week.

See anything in your My Nintendo you want? Let us know in the Talkback below!

UPDATE: Miitomo is now live worldwide.

I was afraid i won't be able to use My Nintendo because i am not in of the supported countries.

I mostly used Club Nintendo to get Wii point card for downloadable games anyway. My Nintendo is even better for this because i can get 3DS and Wii U games. Though three currencies thing is off-putting because how much it resembles F2P schemes mobile games use.

I want to get New Luigi or WarioWare or Super Mario Land 2 or maybe 20% discount towards Link Between Worlds...

It's a shame that there is no grace period for purchases made in say the last month. I wished Tasks counted that.

fred13March 31, 2016

Now I'm kind of wishing I would have waited to purchase my copy of Fire Emblem Fates.

tyto_albaMarch 31, 2016

This makes me feel better about spending all that money on phyical games to get physical awards last year as they don't seem to be coming back anytime soon. good thing i ditched my smartphone last month as this new rewards program is targeted heavily to the always-looking-on-a-screen generation and not that rewarding at all.

ejamerMarch 31, 2016

Really not loving this new reward system.

It's probably great for some people though.

I am guessing this is because you (are on record that) you prefer to buy physical and that is no longer rewarded. I agree this is a shame but I buy mostly digital now. The exception are games I think my kids will want to play independently on their own 3DS systems. I am now having a dilemma about Hyrule Warriors Legends. Buying digital will get me tons o points (and I prefer to have games on my system.) But this is one of those games the kids may also want to play. I guess I should ask them.
Or maybe buy digital now and pick up a really cheap physical copy in a month or so? Or just let them play it on my system when they want to?
Decisions, decisions...

KhushrenadaMarch 31, 2016

Doesn't seem like that difficult a decision. Dump the kids off at the pound and then you've got the money for both digital and physical and the time to play the games to boot.

That's a terrible attitude to have towards children.

Remember: with a little training your rugrats can be kept busy by all kinds of menial labor jobs. Sure the pay isn't great... but they don't get to eat until they earn, so it's always a net plus for you!

I'm sure that would be the same situation at the pound. Sounds like it would be a win - win solution for all.

KhushrenadaMarch 31, 2016

Today is no empathy day.

Physical games aren't eligible, points expire after six months instead of two years, some rewards will be offered for only a short period of time, no physical rewards, slow website, some of the points earning stuff requires doing social media garbage... I didn't think it possible, but this is significantly worse than Club Nintendo.

OedoMarch 31, 2016

Rewarding people for physical purchases is still something that could happen with the new account system, at least according to Bill Trinen:

Quote:

“Initially, the focus is going to be on digital,” Trinen says, “but we do have a lot of ideas for what roll out down the road for packaged goods or real world interactions. I think we’ll continue to look at My Nintendo and how we can grow that as a rewards program, so that it really is trying to encompass all the different touch points of how people come into contact with Nintendo products.”

The new rewards program is already set up to allow you to enter codes for rewards points (if you were a Club Nintendo member you should get an email with a code for 200 platinum coins), so it certainly seems feasible. Either way, I'm sure there are some kinds of changes and additions to come. It's not overly impressive right now, but it's also less than a day old.

AdrockMarch 31, 2016

I have all my Nintendo accounts linked, but I can't use my Mii in Miitomo because I didn't allow my Mii to be copied. Okay, Nintendo.

So I go into both Wii U and 3DS to allow my Mii to be copied then go back to Miitomo. I can't use my Mii in Miitomo because I didn't allow my Mii to be copied. Okay, Nintendo.

I try again 20 minutes later. I can't use my Mii in Miitomo because I didn't allow my Mii to be copied. Okay, Nintendo.

I'm going to lie down for a while.

Mop it upMarch 31, 2016

Ah, I don't think I saw that quote before. That's good news! It doesn't address all those other problems I mentioned, but physical games not being eligible may be my number one issues right now, so fixing that would make me satisfied enough. That may not happen on 3DS and Wii U though, and instead start with their next system(s).

Fatty The HuttMarch 31, 2016

They could always start printing up code inserts again for physical copies of games.
Or, cooler, would be if your system recognized the first time you put in a new disc or cartridge and auto-credited you.

Hey, at least you can use Miitomo. I'm locked out of probably all of Nintendo's mobile apps b/c my OnePlusOne is being falsely flagged as a rooted phone.

Fatty The HuttMarch 31, 2016

Darn. You can buy all sorts of games on Nintendo.com and they start auto-loading to your linked system(s) but you can't go there and synch up a demo for auto-download.
At least not for Pokken Tournament. I don't know about other games.
Too bad.

Looossseeeerrrr! I already knew I didn't have friends before this game came out!

Not the perfect solution, but go into Mii Maker on one of your systems, get the QR code for your Mii and use that to import it into Miitomo.

...

I fully agree with your sentiment, but I'm not sure I agree with all of your points.

* Physical games aren't eligible -- yet, but that could (hopefully will) change based on comments made
* points expire after six months instead of two years -- a downer, and definitely shorter than I'd like; would be nice if the upped it to a year, but I can understand how they might feel a bit burned after some massive cash-outs that happened at the end of the old Club Nintendo
* some rewards will be offered for only a short period of time -- this happened in the old Club Nintendo with limited physical goods that quickly disappeared, rotating digital offers, and occasional special deals
* no physical rewards -- the old Club Nintendo had already (essentially) transitioned to this with digital downloads
* slow website -- the old site was also slow, and would frequently go down with any significant traffic; considering things just started a lot of people are probably accessing the site I suspect it's actually better than before
* some of the points earning stuff requires doing social media garbage -- I hate this too, but others don't mind; I guess giving "more" ways to earn points isn't bad, and it's probably not worse than doing surveys... it is a huge turn-off for me personally though

Even though I'm pretty down on the new club, it's not really "worse" than the old one.  A lot of similarities with some natural evolution towards what they ask of consumers.  (Unfortunately none of those changes go in directions that appeal to me. C'est la vie!)

supermario2kApril 01, 2016

What if you already own every first party Wii U game out? There isn't anything for me to purchase until NX comes out so no incentive for me to sign up right now if things will expire before I make the switch.

I tried that. It didn't work. I ended up just recreating my Mii. I'm going to justify this by saying that my Mii needed to be updated anyway. I haven't had long hair in like four years.

Anyway, Miitomo is strangely addicting. It's a shame you can't import your Nintendo Network ID friends.

If Miitomo won't load on your Android phone, try downloading the latest update from the Play store. Mind's working now.  ;D

* slow website -- the old site was also slow, and would frequently go down with any significant traffic; considering things just started a lot of people are probably accessing the site I suspect it's actually better than before

The problems with the old Club Nintendo site were wildly overblown, and the main time that it had stability issues was during the last few months, when Nintendo no longer bothered to maintain the site. Before the announcement of the shutdown, I never had any issues with the site, and it wasn't slow for me. Of course, since the stability problems were during its final months, it's unfortunately become a memory that sticks into people's minds.

Even still, since being able to access the site on a given day isn't essential, I'll gladly take rare occurrences of site outage over a site that's slow-as-molasses, as the latter is a problem all of the time instead of very rarely. The slowness seems to be caused by a lot of unnecessary graphics and animation that it uses, so I don't expect it to change much with less traffic.

Quote from: ejamer

They were still offering some physical rewards towards the end of things, such as the sweet 3/DS game card case. Some is better than none.

That's true, they did cycle through the digital games. I hope they do that same thing with this new site as well, to give people another chance at certain rewards. Still, being the same isn't better, and better is what I was hoping for out of the new MyNintendo.

I know, I know, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter, it's just an optional rewards program that offers only bonuses, no real negatives still. Just something I like to talk about.

European Club Nintendo was completely different from NA and that site (or more like a bunch of sites) WAS a complete cluster.

Club Nintemdo itself was on one address, reward catalog on another address and wii points shop was on third address. And you had to login into each of them separately.

TOPHATANT123April 01, 2016

The club Nintendo survey's were complete garbage, not the worst I've seen but definitely up there.

nickmitchApril 02, 2016

It sounds like physical purchases to me.  The last sentence reads as if they want to reward you for the different ways you interact with Nintendo, i.e., digital and retail purchases.

A prominent Nintendo news aggregator misinterpreted the quote that way and presented it in that context on their site, so I'm not surprised a lot of people think that. The original source of the comments (an IGN interview that went up on Thursday) explicitly refers to physical purchases though.

Quote:

Nintendo’s New rewards Program Doesn’t Reward Physical Purchases... Yet

Followed by those comments from Trinen. But hey, hopefully we do end up getting both rewards for physical purchases and physical rewards themselves.

I saw that, but it doesn't show the actual question that was asked of Bill. Is there a raw, unedited version of this interview anywhere so we can see what was actually asked?

Good golly I've already got more gold points than I think I'll be able to spend before they expire.

Obviously I'd KILL for some good physical rewards, but barring that I'm hoping for some good ways to get free DLC (Mii Fighter costumes in Smash? More Pikmin 3 Map Packs?), ways to spend gold points on Miitomo Drop tickets (a good way to drain excess gold points, and it really don't cost Nintendo that much to give!), or a 30% off coupon on a Fire Emblem Fates download.

Also maybe some ways to exchange for free Badge Arcade plays too... I really am having trouble figuring out how I'll ever redeem all these gold points before expiration the way my spending habits are.

Far as I can tell, that was it, but maybe they touch on it more in their Nintendo podcast.
