More Fantasy Life, big sales for Azure Striker Gunvolt, and more in today's newsletter!

Level-5 Set to Reveal Major Project at Next Event

April 7 will be a big day for Level-5 fans, as they are set to hold a big event which will show their "next generation major cross media project" which, according to Siliconera, promises to be as big as Yo-kai Watch in terms of popularity in Japan.

Beyond this this big project, also shown at this event (titled Level-5 Vision 2015: The Beginning) will be Yo-kai Watch 3, Fantasy Life 2, and a seventh installment of the Professor Layton series. Beyond games, there will also be live music, conferences, and will also be live-streamed online.

Our Take: "The very idea that Fantasy Life 2 is forthcoming is the best news of the year so far for me. I am a little concerned that it might not make it to America, though, since I don't believe the first did that well last year." - Neal Ronaghan

Kaio: The King of Pirates Cancelled

Kaio: The King of Pirates, originally due to be released on the 3DS, has been cancelled, according to publisher Marvelous. According to a translation found on NeoGAF, they cited that current market conditions made it too hard to continue on with the project. It had originally been announced back in 2012, and was met with several delays until now.

Our Take: "Im pretty sure Kaio was to be released in 2013, and it's for the best this doesn't turn into a Last Guardian situation." - Donald Theriault

Azure Striker Gunvolt Reaches 100,000 in Worldwide Sales

Good news for Inti Creates today, as they reported on their website that Azure Striker Gunvolt has surpassed 100,000 worldwide downloads. The game, released in August for the 3DS, is also set to come to Europe in the near future, recently cleared by the several ratings boards over there as well as Australia.

Our Take: "Good news for those who enjoyed the game and hope for more in the future! I haven't played it yet but maybe I'll be number 100,001 to give it a shot!" - Bryan Rose

  • Publisher Marvelous acquired the mobile game maker G-Mode. The company has made a few titles for Nintendo platforms like GO Series: 10 Second Run on DSiWare and Dopamix for the Nintendo 3DS eShop. They are, however, mostly known for owning Data East's IP catalog and this includes classics like BurgerTime and Magical Drop. It is unknown at this time what the future for G-Mode will hold, though Marvelous could be intending to bring some Data East classics back to life.
  • Elliot Quest, an upcoming Wii U eShop title, has been dated. The game will be releasing in North America on March 19 and Europe will get the game a month later on April 16. The title, which seems to take inspiration from games like Zelda II, will have some Wii U exclusive features. Players can look for hidden paintings and this grants them access to a special new area. Next to this, you will be able to view Elliot's inventory on the Wii U GamePad without interrupting your gameplay!
  • Nobuo Uematsu, the famous Final Fantasy composer, didn't get asked to compose for Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U. Uematsu was responsible for Brawl's main theme, which featured a big orchestra and opera singers to boot. That being said, he admits: ''All joking aside, it's just that, since there are many video game musicians representing Japan who are already participating, there's no need for me."

seventh installment of the Professor Layton series

Interesting. They've decided to go back to Layton after all. I'm curious when this will be. More of the prequel Layton or after The Unwound Future Layton or in between Layton.....

Fantasy Life 2!  Dang it, all my favourite 3DS games are getting sequels.  That's a good thing, except my backlog is too big.  I need more time!

The game isn't even officially announced yet, and it took two years before the first game left Japan. You've likely got lots of time.

Elliot Quest reminds me of a nicer, more beginner-friendly Zelda II. It's been fun to play so far, and I hope that continues until I finish with it.
