Shared downloads, individual player saves, and much more!

Up to 12 different Nintendo Network IDs can be stored on a single Wii U system. This news was revealed during the Japanese Nintendo Direct earlier today.

To activate a Nintendo Network ID, you will needed to send a few necessary details to Nintendo, including a username, password, e-mail address, date of birth and your gender. Most features on the Wii U system require a Nintendo Network ID, so it will be necessary to set one up from the get-go.

In each of these 12 accounts, everyone will have their own list of recommendations on the Miiverse, game save data and internet bookmarks. Downloaded Nintendo eShop games are shared across all accounts on a single Wii U system, there is no need to pay and download them again. You are allowed to play the games that other people on your system have purchased.

Nintendo's Wii U system will release in North America first on November 18, and later in Europe on the 30th. Japan will get their hands on the system on December 8.

Does our Club Nintendo account tie into this at all? You would thin it should.

supergttNovember 07, 2012

Why don't they just use our club nintendo accounts?

why does this sound just like local profiles while actual purchases are still tied to hardware?

I'd imagine the eshop/Club Nintendo account stuff work similarly to the 3DS.

Any word on how many characters the Nintendo Network IDs can be? Can you change the ID once you set it? Since save data and such are tied to specific accounts, it would be nice if I can change my ID from lonelygrrl84 to something else at a later date.

Any word on whether or not these profiles can be remotely deleted from one system and recovered on another? Having multiple profiles on one system is great and all, but the real benefit of having a profile system is that your account and games can be easily migrated.

Still no clear indication on how online gaming works exactly.

I'm pretty sure it'll work like an online game.

Just a hunch...

Sarcasm noted. Plugabugz is most likely referring to specifics, namely how much different it is from the mess on the Wii. We know that voice chat is limiting, at least for now. Other than online multiplayer exists on the console, there's a lot we still don't know.

Seconded. Sounds likely that games are not tied to accounts in any meaningful way.

I understand how individual profiles provide value if you have (for example) kids of different ages that should have access to different content, or multiple people using the console heavily who want to customize how their content is presented. But I'm not sure how many people were really looking for this feature - especially when compared to the number of people who actively want digital content tied to user profiles to allow improved management and transfer between systems.

Maybe we don't have all the information... but it doesn't sound like these accounts have anything to do with content licensing from the information we've seen so far. That's a shame, if true.

Shouldn't that say "confirmed" since this info was revealed a long time ago?

or was it just rumored and I took it as fact?

Correct. What do we use instead of friend codes. How does setting up a game work? Id it centralised or game-specific? Is there parental controls? And so on.

hope Nintendo will be able to tie Nintendo Network ID to our Club Nintendo Account later on

LouieturkeyNovember 07, 2012

I'm guessing it's only one system, but was there any mention of being able to have your ID active on two different systems just not at the same time?

I'm for the lost-game recovery policy, but I'm against the Bart-killing policy...

I'm disappointed they haven't mentioned 3ds in any way.

It's a bummer we still don't have accounts for portable handhelds that are easy to lose or get stolen.
