Finally, it gets a release date. Also, it'll have all sorts of 3D and wireless goodness.

Animal Crossing for 3DS, known in Japan as Tobidase Doubutsu no Mori (Pop Out! Animal Crossing), is coming out this fall in Japan, according to today's Nintendo Direct presentation.

The game's title offers a hint about the gameplay, as Tobidase means "jump out," which refers to the stereoscopic 3D graphics and the game's wireless functions.

Some footage was shown, but no more details were elaborated on. Animal Crossing is still a "2012" release in North America and Europe, but it can be safely assumed it will come out in fall 2012 in both regions.

"Fall" is not a date.  It's a season.  A date is a specific day that can be circled on a calendar.

Anyone know if you can import your catalog from any other iteration of the game? Hopefully City Folk.

OH yeah! I've played every game in the series and to me this game was ment to be on a portable! I played the heck out of Wild World for DS!

I doubt it. Then again, here in Japan, people could send in their N64 memory cards and have their data transferred to a GCN memory card to continue where they left off...

They did let you transfer your catalog from Wild World to City Folk, so there's precedent.

I'm leaning towads "No, you won't be able to." The Wii has no real way of connecting with your system that I'm aware of, which is how you imported your catalog with the DS to Wii but it would be great if they could do it some how.

Is it really safe to assume the NA and EU versions of this game will release alongside the Japan version? Seems like a large assumption to make (one I hope is true, but still).

The Wii version launched within 1 month in all major territories (November 16 in US, November 20 in Japan, December 4 in Australia, December 5 in Europe). The DS one was close (NA, JP, and AUS got it within 1 month of each other, but Europe got it 3 months later). So it's possible.

Except you forget Mii transfer, so there is a precedent of sorts.
