Final Fantasy Rhythm Game Coming to 3DS

Will feature rhythm-based battles set to music from the series.

A new rhythm-action Final Fantasy title is coming to the 3DS, Square Enix announced today.

Titled Theatrhythm (short for "theater rhythm action") Final Fantasy, the game is laid very similar to a traditional Final Fantasy game, with an overworld and dungeons, except with battles played out on the touch screen by tapping in time with the music. The game's soundtrack will be pulled from previous games in the series, and will feature characters from those games in chibi form.

Square Enix did not specify when the game will be released.

Um, why? I won't judge a game based on its concept, but this is such a weird idea. Still, I am glad new ideas are being used for 3DS games.

I wonder if the title is simply "theater + rhythm" or if it's also meant to be an anagram of "theta rhythm". That's what I thought of when I saw the trademark registration last month, but then, I've studied brain rhythms.

As someone who is just now playing Elite Beat Agents for the first time, I would be thrilled if this game was basically EBA with FF songs.

For shame. I've given people copies of that game to play. Saying that, would be cool if it was EBA Like but, I see it being more like DDR.

lol. No. It be like DDR for the iPhone, which I have and is not bad. I'm actually more of a controller person when it comes to DDR because I can sort of Zone out and have fun with it while not really actually paying attention. Plus I can't get my 80lb HD-CRT at eye level very easily.
