Japan gets the next title in the Harvest Moon spin-off series this year.

Rune Factory 4 is in development for 3DS, and will be releasing in Japan this year. The title was revealed in the latest issue of Famitsu.

Series developer Neverland Co. Ltd. returns for this entry in the dungeon-crawling Harvest Moon spin-off series, and while details are currently limited this game promises a greater emphasis on the relationship mechanics including the addition of events for couples.

The game will feature both genders with the male and female leads named Les and Frey respectively.

Traditionally, numbered Rune Factory games have been on the DS and named Rune Factory games have been on consoles, so it seems that Neverland has moved their focus to the 3DS. The latest Rune Factory title, Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny for Wii and PS3 will be released in North America later this year.

Talkback

I bought the first Wii game, but sold it without playing because I just couldn't commit that kind of time to a game that was tethered to a TV. I would have bought the third DS game, but I had a feeling something like this would come. Day one purchase for me, assuming it comes to NA (and all the other ones have, right?).

I only put about a million hours into Frontier before handing it off to the then-girlfriend. I think she put about two million in.

I'd say it is a near certainty that Natsume brings this to North America and Rising Star brings it to Europe. While I don't have any specific information to confirm this I have seen a Rune Factory title at Natsume's boot for the last three E3s.

Will hit Europe in 2-3 years...
