Seth Killian, the Community Manager at Capcom, explains that the Wii brawler has performed better than they had anticipated.

In a recent interview regarding the "Capcom Vs." series, Seth Killian, the Community Manager at Capcom, spoke about the sales of Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars:

"[Tatsunoko Vs Capcom] certainly beat the initial expectations. It didn't set any land speed records, but it was a success. And that's really saying something considering that we're talking about a game that was not only never coming out, but has a title that most people can't even pronounce."

After the failure Capcom had with Spyborgs, they had a lot riding on Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, so it is nice to see that the game turned out to be a success in their eyes. Who knows, maybe the success of the game will result in a sequel on the Wii.

hopefully that sequel is Marvel vs Capcom 3.

c'mon we earned it.

ShyGuyApril 28, 2010

Did we pass a Capcom test? We get Umbrella Chronicles 3 now?

GoldenPhoenixApril 28, 2010

Wonder what their expectations were? Obviously they were high enough to justify the risk of bringing it out here. I'm glad to see the game selling decently though, especially because the Tatsunoko brand isn't well known here.

They did advertise it pretty well.

In order to answer that question we'd need to know how many copies of the game have been sold, which is missing from the article.  :(

I'd love a sequel, game is so good!

TJ SpykeApril 28, 2010

I am glad it beat their expectations. I know it was a big risk to localize it. There were problems with licensing deals (lots of different companies had the rights outside of Japan), and also the fact that most people have never heard of Tatsunoko or their characters (even some of the Capcom characters were obscure).

ShyGuyApril 28, 2010

VGChartz tells us 170k in NA.

Yeah, they probably had it pegged for a sell-through of 150,000 copies.

I think this is one of those games where the VGC number is pulled completely out of thin air.

I'm glad it succeeded. Maybe we'll see some more Vs. games on the Wii now. Personally, I like the Tatsunoko characters. The brand is obscure but it made me go out and actually research the characters. I hope they do another Capcom Vs. Some Brand You've Never Heard Of.

Capcom vs Hanna Barbera

it fits the casual kidz demographic perfectly.

People might not recognize Tatsunoko, but the Capcom vs. series appears to be well-known amongst fighting game fans so I'm sure people who are unfamiliar with Tatsunoko bought it because of Capcom's name.

Honestly.... so would I.

What I think Capcom was surprised about was it outsold the Japanese market 4 to 1 even though it was geared towards them.  So if the American market is stronger suited you'll more likely get something aimed at us like Marvel series.

I still want Konami vs Capcom.
