WayForward announces their first game for the DSiWare digital distribution service.

Mighty Flip Champs is a puzzle/platforming game in which players control Alta, who must traverse various chambers full of mazes. The action happens on the top screen, while the bottom screen hosts a preview of the next stage. This preview shows a projected destination, which is where Alta will end up once she “flips” to the next stage with her magic wand.

Because Mighty Flip Champs will be downloadable via the DSiWare service, it will be a DSi exclusive title. Matt Bozon will serve as the game’s director, with his prior experience being Shantae on the Gameboy Color and Contra 4 on the Nintendo DS.

Currently there is no price point or release date announced for Mighty Flip Champs.

Is this the first non-Nintendo DSiWare game?

No, Mr. Driller was announced by Namco Bandai a few weeks ago, I'm sure there are plenty of third parties making DSiWare games but there will probably be more announcements when the DSi is available worldwide.

It is one of the first announced though. This was a surprise since WiiWare has been mostly third parties while DSiWare is the complete opposite. Maybe Nintendo didn't tell third parties about it ahead of time? I think they did the same thing with Wii MotionPlus (I remember LucasArts saying they didn't know about it until Nintendo publicly announced it at E3 last year).

I sorta like the concept... and it's a great thing that this is a western company jumping onboard too!
