Wii version is set to come out in 2009 while the previously mentioned DS version is scheduled for September.

At a media event last week, Tecmo confirmed the eventual release of Tecmo Bowl for Wii. However, the only information known about the upcoming release is that it will come out in 2009.

Tecmo also showed more of Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff for DS and announced a September release window. Also, since EA's Madden series holds NFL exclusivity rights, Tecmo Bowl will consist of 32 fictional teams that can be fully customizable. The game will retain a classic look as evidenced in the game's recently released screenshots.

Talkback

Considering a buy hardcore.

Seeing screens of the DS version sent me into major nostalgia and reading the preview gave me hope that they wouldn't screw it up, and I have even higher hopes for the Wii one, but probably lower expectations.

I am buying this no questions asked, first day, hell first hour.  Tecmo Super Bowl is one of my favorite games ever.

I love the fact that they didn't really change it from the SNES version...I wholly endorse that for this title.

Second'd.
And I have at least one friend with a DS who would third this and a few friends without them that might buy a DS for this game.

The first thing I'm going to do is add Bo Jackson and Jerry Rice and max out their stats.

"There's no way Jerry Rice is going to catch that, it's 50 feet over his head"
"Oh no, it's going to a cinema scene!"
"OH MY GOD HE JUST JUMPED UP AND CAUGHT IT"

I'm sure the game will have exciting team names like "Chicago" and "Green Bay" but I think it would be cool if they did the Fire Pro style of having made-up names.

Chicago Grizzlies
Arizona Red Birds
New York Goliaths

And then change the names to Tim Brandy, Peter Munning, Terry Ovens, etc. :)

Based on the videos, it looks like the names are pretty random.

It doesn't matter, I'll probably grab the real NFL rosters and put them all in.  Or maybe find a Madden roster and make an equivalent.

I'm taking this back to the old school.

Has it been confirmed that you can edit the rosters? I know they've said that you can change the team name and colors but I didn't see them specifically say you could change player names.

Yep, you can.  Check the videos on IGN, it shows them doing it.
