Nintendo will be holding a couple of large tournaments over the next two months ahead of PAX East.

The Super Smash Bros Ultimate North American Open and Splatoon 2 North American Inkling Open will have online qualifiers in February, with Smash Bros's extending into March, with the grand finals to be held at the PAX East expo in Boston on March 30. Registration for the events is now live: Smash, Splatoon 2.

For Smash, three separate online qualifying events will be held across four regions (Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast) on February 2, February 16, and March 9. Finals events will be held February 9, March 2, and March 16, with the winners advancing to Boston. Splatoon 2 will have "Ink Pools" on February 10 at noon ET, with the finals on March 2 at noon ET to determine the four teams who will play at PAX East.

Good to see Nintendo of America stepping up with events like this. I've been wondering when this would happen given all the events Nintendo Co. Ltd. have been hosting in Japan.
