Nintendo showed off a fair bit of content and information for the upcoming Switch game Fire Emblem Warriors on their Treehouse Live E3 2017 stream.

Fire Emblem Warriors is an action/adventure game with Warriors-style gameplay, featuring a wide variety of characters from the ever popular Fire Emblem series developed by Koei Tecmo. Throughout the stream they showed off two new original twin characters, Lianna and Rowan, though many previous Fire Emblem characters including Ryoma, Corrin, Marth, Xander and Chrom were also shown. Nintendo said that they will be announcing more characters that will be playable in the game, and made a note to say that the cast won’t be limited to just sword users.

Fire Emblem Warriors features a brand new kingdom and story. The producers talked about how special it was seeing the great variety of Fire Emblem characters in HD and using the different Warriors-style gameplay, which “takes the strategic elements of Fire Emblem games and combines them with the action of the Warriors games.” One feature shown off was the ability to assign orders to anyone on your map at any time. Another big feature is the weapon triangle system, a rock paper scissors-like system famously known and inspired from the Fire Emblem franchise. (To help the player strategize, they can assign weapons to each character before each skirmish begins.)

One of the things that Koei Tecmo’s previous Nintendo endeavor “Hyrule Warriors” has been known for is it’s great attention to detail in the lore of Zelda. Throughout the whole Fire Emblem Warriors stream the producers talked about how they put the same amount of love for Fire Emblem into this game, and included many nods to the classic Nintendo franchise. These Easter eggs include full voice acting, sprite characters shown on the map screen, and a level-up sequence that happens during combat (that can be turned off in the options if it interrupts gameplay for player.)

A new mode was showcased at the end of the stream entitled “Colosseum Mode”. This arena-like mode was announced and presented as extra content to Fire Emblem Warriors, separate from main story mode. The main hook here is to fight lots of heroes one on one. Waves of enemies are still present, but the focus stays on 1v1 battles, playable with different characters and multiple stages.

At the very end of the stream Nintendo surprised us with two new Fire Emblem amiibo, Chrom and Tiki. Not much was said about the pair, only that they are compatible with Fire Emblem Warriors, which is planned to launch Autumn 2017.
