Nintendo World Report Announces Patreon Campaign

Remove us from the shackles of the search engine optimization god

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/sitenews/42559/nintendo-world-report-announces-patreon-campaign

After 17 years, we've finally sold out - to you.

Starting today, Nintendo World Report has launched crowdfunding through Patreon. For as little as $1 a month, you can see exclusive Nintendo World Report content, as well as have influence on the site at higher tiers.

Depending on your generosity, we may be able to produce exclusive podcasts, bring back classic NWR content such as Patreon-backed developer interviews and magazines, and even eliminate all advertising from the website.

Thank you so much for your support, and let's make Nintendo World Report better than it's ever been!

How much do I have to pay to be able to ban anyone I want?

Oh, wait...

I'm considering joining just for the podcasts. LOVE RFN and I enjoy Connectivity. Hopefully the $300 podcast will be great.

How much for The Funhouse?

I feel I might be able to buy that forum property pretty cheaply thanks to the residents living in it.

I'll support you even without the perks. I don't mind and I like the site. To get it updated I would gladly donate.

After taking so, so much over the years, I guess I can give a little back.

There's too much other stuff these days demanding my money for me to fund this (and honestly, I'm tired of stuff going to Patreon in general), but I wish the site well if this is the only way it can survive these days.

More than happy to pitch in a little bit every month. NWR is one of the few remaining gaming sites where I enjoy the content and posting in the forums. Here's hoping it continues to stick around and get better for a long time.

Some people do better stuff with it than others. I am not a big fan of locking good stuff behind it. Pat the NES Punk has a bi-weekly podcast called the Completely Unnecessary Podcast, Patreon supports get a video version of it (though he posts clips on YouTube) and gets the podcast a day earlier. That is a good use.

But seriously, throw in new forum software as a stretch goal.

If I get a Patreon badge, does that mean I am unbannable?

Really, the only Patreon I'm considering funding is Easy Allies, and that's just because I loved GT so much and those guys do so much really professional video work no one else really does well.

Good luck! Though, it looks like you might not need to much of it.

I've been looking at the Patreon tiers to see where the ad-free site experience is. Given how much time I spent on this site, I would love to pay to have it ad free.

EDIT: In fact, ad free is pretty much all I want. Anything else is extra.

Ad-free tier would be an appealing option - I often find the ads on this site to include cleavage-filled shots for random mobile games. Without a smart phone these ads are useless to me but the artwork they often use makes looking at the site at work or even around my kids embarrassing.

I'm not really a fan of limiting content to supporters, as making sure the site is appealing to everyone seems like an important way to grow content and user-base. Time delays are ok, I guess.

It's a shame that Broodwars doesn't consider the site worth supporting at all, but everyone has to make their own choices about where to spend their limited resources. I do appreciate the wide variance in support levels offered. Committing to a $12 or $24 donation over the course of a year shouldn't be hard for most. If this site is something you use and get regular enjoyment from, that's not a high threshold. I was able to go a bit higher because we are in a good place financially (and let's face it: as a Nintendo gamer I'm not spending much money on games these days).

I did demand a Pateron-exclusive forum.

I got shot down.

I should just declare the Funhouse pateron-exclusive and ban anyone who posts in it without supporting the site. :p

Just not enough money to go around, man. Just had to drop $530 on a car repair a few weeks ago. I wouldn't rule it out in the future, but right now I don't really have expendable income to throw at sites like this.

I'm surprised this post isn't a sticky post at the top of the page and/or in the images section.
Seems like that might garner additional attention and more Patreon supporters.
