A guild with a somewhat shaky foundation in place.

Gamelion has a track record of bringing mobile ports to the Nintendo 3DS. Some do better than others, but most can't keep us engaged for  long. A very novel attempt steps forward with League of Heroes. It is a game that brings cheap action RPG madness to the system, but it comes at a cost.

League of Heroes is pretty straightforward as you step in the shoes of a warrior. He has come to Forgnest, which is apparently the perfect place to boost your skills and become almighty. Outside of these bits of information, there is not much plot found in this adventure. You will get some witty dialogue and voice acting, but it does not go overly deep.

The game is more focused around quests and there are a ton of them. These will be given to you by an obsessed grandmother and a captain, who will constantly keep you on your toes. The objectives range from simply leveling up to collecting a certain amount of something. By completing your work, you will rewarded with new ranks and special gems. Ranks, levels and gems are needed to unlock new content throughout your adventure and this keeps you glued to the screen. After a while though, the quests do become somewhat repetitive. As I was progressing along, I found myself only playing it for a few minutes before moving on to something else entirely.

Fighting the various monsters is easy enough to understand and kind of fun. You can use the A-button for the simplest of attacks or press X for various ranged weaponry like shurikens. The attacks are quick and effective, which makes battling enemies entertaining and it doesn't overstay its welcome. One aspect I did not enjoy about the fighting was the Active Skill mechanic, which gives you a powerful attack once you charge it up. This sounds cool in theory, but you can't move at all while using it. This leaves you not only open for attack, but once you are hit, you will have to start the whole process over. Speaking of the controls, you are weirdly asked to use touchscreen sometimes for options. Going actively back and forth between two control schemes makes the experience inconsistent.

League of Heroes is entertaining enough to look at. The various elements are well drawn and are appealing on the screens of the system. At moments though, I did feel that the levels were a bit too crowded. You had to move through a lot to get to the fun parts, which is the fighting. The music in the game is forgettable. I can't remember a single song that I liked or even slightly remember and that is not a good thing.

League of Heroes is a simple action RPG, if you are in search for one. It has tons of quests for you to do and you can easily spend a good amount of time with it. You won't find a deep story or a system that constantly brings you new stuff, but for a daily quick go, the game is certainly not a bad choice. If you can deal with repetitiveness and some really forgettable music, then perhaps you might want to look into this one.
