Nintendo unveils total sales for a few of their most recent games.

Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, and Tomodachi Life have all crossed the 3 million unit mark worldwide according to data from Nintendo's recent financial briefing.

Mario Kart 8, launching in late May, sold 3.49 million units worldwide as of the end of September, including 2.74 million units outside of Japan. Smash Bros. on 3DS sold 3.22 million units worldwide as of the end of September, including 1.5 million units outside of Japan. Tomodachi Life has sold 1.24 million units in North America and Europe so far, pushing the surprise hit to 3.12 million units overall. Lastly, Pokémon X and Y have sold 13.29 million units worldwide since their launch last October. From April 2014 to September 2014, the pair of Pokémon games sold just over a million units.

The data includes downloaded copies as well as copies bundled with hardware. While Super Smash Bros. for 3DS technically came out in early October outside of Japan, the sales data reflects the copies that were sent to stores, so there is a chance that number is not completely exact. We do know that Smash Bros. sold 705,000 copies in America in two days, though.

So the Smash number is basically BS, as it uses shipped numbers rather than sold numbers (because there were 0 copies sold outside of Japan in that time frame). That is the shady thing Sony used to do (where they would count systems still sitting in warehouses in their "Sales" numbers).

We have confirmation from Nintendo of 2.8m sell through by October 5, so a 400k difference.
