Original Final Fantasy Coming to 3DS eShop in 3D-Enhanced Release
« on: September 17, 2014, 05:57:22 AM »

As part of a bonus for Final Fantasy Explorers, Japanese players can check out the first Final Fantasy in stereoscopic 3D.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/38537/original-final-fantasy-coming-to-3ds-eshop-in-3d-enhanced-release

The original Final Fantasy game is coming to 3DS in an enhanced form alongside the December release of Final Fantasy Explorers in Japan.

Retail copies of Explorers will include a download code for this retro bonus, which will be sold on the eShop a month after the release. The version of Final Fantasy seems to resemble the recent PSP remake, with cleaner-looking graphics. The 3DS version will also display in 3D, likely in a similar way as Nintendo's own 3D Classics.

Additionally, a prologue demo is set to come out in Japan before Explorer's release. This demo supports multiplayer and online play.

Final Fantasy Explorers, which could likely best be summed up as a Final Fantasy take on Monster Hunter, is set to come out on December 18 in Japan. No word yet on a worldwide release.

Because Final Fantasy I was a genre-creating masterpiece and why shouldn't we have it available and also for free?

Saw some screens on NeoGAF. It basically looks like a 3D port of the PSP version.

I played Dragon Warrior first, and it was fantastic.

But Final Fantasy was way more epic.

Free if you get Explorers, which... why would I.

So if you don't want to buy the game, don't worry about what others are getting when they buy it.  It's a value-add pack in.

If you do want to buy Final Fantasy I, do so when it comes out a month later.  And if you don't want to buy Final Fantasy I, well... stop wishing for other people not to have things.  That's ridiculous.

Why the nitpicking about something like this? Its fantastic news. You're getting something that would cost 10 bucks if you bought it on Amazon right now (FF1 PSP remake) with the added bonus of better graphics and 3D effects. For someone who already planned on getting Explorers, this is a great value. For those that don't get Explorers, it comes out the next month on the eShop. I don't see how anyone could belittle this.

Problem with FF1. It hasn't aged well. But hey, if this can get Square to start releasing the old FF games on 3DS virtual console, I don't care how bad it is. GO FF1!

Yes it has, considering, once again, it isn't the original game.

The remake removes the spell uses and does the normal MP mechanic for magic. Also, it lets you save anywhere at anytime instead of at an Inn or a tent on the overworld.

I think his point was that you called FF1 genre creating, but you can't create a genre that already exists (which is did, as Dragon Warrior was already out before it).

I'm just pointing out that it is only free if you get explorers which you failed to mention before.

I played the remake on the GBA and did everything in it. It had the save and MP fix. I don't think the game has aged well at all (opinion).

The original is the only Final Fantasy I've played more than half an hour into, which I did on the GBA. I beat it and really enjoyed it. I think I enjoyed it specifically because of its archaicness, because I never enjoyed a JRPG that much again until Bravely Default.

You're right--I meant "genre-defining", but there's no editing these posts.  But RPGs were around long, long before Dragon Warrior.

I didn't mention it because it's in the article.  Your post "...Why?" wasn't exactly a lot of context to go on.

I don't think that 3D really adds anything to a game like this.

The remake removes the spell uses and does the normal MP mechanic for magic.
I actually think this made things worse, the spell use mechanic is a better, more strategic system than using MP. Sure there are some refinements that could be done with it, but the MP thing has been way overdone at this point so the spell use thing is what makes the original Final Fantasy a more unique game. Switching to MP also made it incredibly easy.

I bought Final Fantasy I and II: Dawn of Souls on GBA, never played it, then my brother bailed me out of a another wasted purchase by dominating both games. For that reason, I never bothered with the PSP version. Getting it for free would be nice when Final Fantasy Explorers is released here.

I'm not sure I'll devote enough time to both this and Monster Hunter 4. I'll have to see more footage of Explorers before deciding to invest in it.

No, I completely agree. In today's world of RPGs, its a better mechanic. However, its still the "archaic" system that was mentioned earlier in this thread. I disagree with him that the remakes haven't aged well, but I suppose the same can be said about all turn based RPGs.
