Who's excited for Animal Crossing: New Leaf
« on: May 12, 2013, 12:34:18 AM »
Animal Crossing has always been one of those franchises that I have absolutely adored! I paid off my whole loan in the original game, and put tons of hours into the DS and Wii versions as well. Now,  I can't wait for New Leaf. It comes out the week after school gets out, so there will be a lot of time with just me, my 3DS, and Animal Crossing.

Are you guys excited for it?

Honest answer? Not me. I've only ever played one Animal Crossing game (I played City Folk on Wii about 4 months ago) and found it to be incredibly monotonous. The idea of collecting thousands of in-game trinkets and speaking with characters who spout reams of inane dialogue holds no appeal to me whatsoever. I'm not trying to be harsh here, but I really don't understand the appeal of those games. Without wanting to offend any grown up fans of Animal Crossing, based on what I played of City Folk (around 20 hours) the games do seem to be squarely aimed at children; which is fine, because most Nintendo properties are, but in the case of Animal Crossing I didn't find anything that appealed to me at the ripe old age of 25.

Half the reason I bought my 3DS was because of Animal Crossing New Leaf, so excited for that game. I love games that are easy going and happy. No stress involved. As will all the AC titles, just being able to turn it on and chill out in a serene world after a long day is bliss and a nice way to relax :D

Am getting its first day, hopefully it gets me back into liking the franchise after the lackluster Wii effort.

Were you playing for long periods of time at once? AC is meant to be played 20-ish minutes each day. It's much more fun that way.

I would say I was probably playing around 40 mins each day. I would dig up fossils, collect fruit, comb the beaches, speak to the inhabitants, pay off some debt, visit the city, buy some furniture, water the plants, etc. but it was the same thing over and over again. To me it felt similar to grinding in an RPG and I didn't find it fun, unfortunately.

The series has always been better suited to a handheld, and now to being a digital download.

The money is already paid off and setting on my 3DS's E-shop account.   This game is honestly my most wanted 3ds game so far.

I don't know why, but I love the series.  I love just checking in daily and doing a few things in my town.  Having it digitally always on my system is going to be perfect.    Really looking forward to it!

Want to ease the wait for Animal Crossing: New Leaf (or perhaps make it worse)? Here is a nifty little site that plays Animal Crossing tunes in sync to the current time, in an endless loop. It even switches at the hour http://tane.us/ac/ There are buttons on the lower left side of the screen that allow you to switch between games.

Make mundane activities in real life as much fun as in Animal Crossing! I think i'm gonna go weed the garden

I was considering a purchase but I realize the whole appeal of the game was playing with the community. There were a core 3-4 of us almost always playing and about a half dozen other people that would pop in randomly from time to time as well. Made for a fun and varied experience.

But half of those people don't even frequent the boards here anymore and the few that do don't plan on getting this game. So I have a feeling I'm going to end up passing on it. I played City Folk for hours with other people and I never really got bored with it. But that was with other people. I don't want to play the game solo for 20-40 minutes a day.

Monster Hunter serves the same purpose for me (glorified chat box with fun side games) while having much more fulfilling gameplay.

I may cave on the purchase depending on what sort of community develops for it on the boards.

I seriously cannot wait for this game.  I still wish I got the same feelings of awe and wonder I had when I first played it on the Cube but I'll never get that again.  It is still a great escape and gives off a little illusion of a real world if you let yourself go into its world and not analyze the game's merits as a "video game".  I think the fact that it is synced with a real clock is what really gets me and I'm surprised not many other games have copied this feature.  I always get the feeling of popping on every now and then just to see whats going on in town.  Playing Animal Crossing during a snowy winter night during Christmas in real life as its snowing in game and you happen to run into another night owl villager pacing around town is surreal to me.

I think you have to have played and been captured by the original to really appreciate the series because nostalgia is a very strong feeling in this franchise which helps  the series moreso than it hurts it IMO.

I'm so hyped for this game that I'm probably going to be camping outside of the Nintendo Store that weekend it comes out. I've been fighting the urge to play past iterations, but I've been absorbing all the media I can in order to gain insight without running into spoilers. I seriously can't wait.

You should camp out on launch night only to buy the game digitally.

I know someone locally who plans on getting it so they might turn me into a buyer.

I would actually love to do that. I was actually the 1st person in North America to buy the first Layton game at the Nintendo Store and at the event Nintendo Power was there taking pics of everyone and they really wanted me to take a picture with one of those huge Layton hats and I refused. A few months later some kid in a top hat is in the mag with a cheese grin. I would love for that to happen and for me to just be online downloading it from the eShop- BUT- they are going to have an event on the 8th and the game comes out on the 9th so I will just be playing a day earlier than most.

I went to the Nintendo Store and while no one was allowed to tell me any actual details about the release event I was shown New Leaf running on an XL and itt looks gorgeous! They showed me the different shops, fruits and houses. I was also shown what is going on with StreetPass- there's like a section where all the characters you StreetPass hang out and you get to see inside their house where you can order some of the furniture that they have. It wasn't clear if you get anything else, but for each player there is a profile, sort of like the ProfiCards in Final Fantasy Theatrhythm. On the back of the cards are badges that players collect through different ways- it seemed like a little Achievement System. I also got to see how Best Friend communication works, you can see who is online and the messages pop up very fast so communication seems to be real smooth. Seriously- I really can't wait for this game.

If you're planning on getting Animal Crossing right away, and want another town to visit (raid for new fruits, whatever), make sure you have me added on your friends list!  (and message me on here so I can add you back).

I've been playing the game for NWR's review for over two weeks now, so I've got a leg up, and am willing to open my gates pretty much every night for the first week or so - as long as we're already friends.

Here's my friend code: 0559-6778-1205

Add me now so you're ready to go when the game comes out!

I'm looking forward to the game. Especially since I can tailor the time of the world to fit my schedule.  That's always been the biggest issue with me with the game. Sure I could always change the time of the system but I always lost interest before I got to that point because I couldn't play it like it was meant to be played. It being on a hand held that I always take with me and being digital are huge pluses as well.

Quick question to all my fellow AC fanatics.  I'm debating if I should watch the Animal Crossing movie before the game comes out to really take my excitement up a notch lol, but, is the movie any good/ worth watching?  Would watching it ruin my nostalgia for AC or will it compliment it?  I say this because in the game, the characters have their strange yet pleasant animal speak but in the anime they will have an actual voice.  Depending on how they come across, it might ruin how I've always looked at these characters.  So what say you, is the movie a go for me?
