Treasure World: DS

Anyone getting this? I had no idea what the game was until I read the IGN review and now I am most certainly buying it! Basically you use your DS as a wifi finder in the real world,  and when you find a connection you unlock a new treasure in the game which can be used to create and customize your own little game world. Very innovative premise and I really want to try it!

Wardriving on the DS, eh? I wonder if that'll get you arrested in some areas...

It sounds like a neat idea, a good reason to explore your hometown and maybe others.

There's not much gaming in this game, and that's the reason why I'm not getting this game.

Well I "played" the game yesterday and it is very cool. Basically the plot is that you need these star bits to fill up your space ship to leave the planet. As you search for those star bits via new wifi connections you get special items to decorate the area around your character, you can create music as well with items.

I should be getting the review copy of this by the weekend.

Quick question, do you actually have to connect to the WiFi networks, or does it work by simply detecting the SSID? I can see actually connecting to other networks being pretty tough, but just picking up signals from a router should be relatively easy by driving through a neighborhood.

From what i read, i believe you just have to locate them. I guess you could connect if you wanted to if they were unlocked (maybe that provides bonus content)

It detects the SSID, and it is very quick at doing so. If you are stopped at a light for just a few seconds it will ring multiple times indicating it located wi-fi networks.

It sounds like a neat idea, a good reason to explore your hometown and maybe others.

At least in Washington it is fine. A friend and I used to spend whole nights wardriving like that back when I first got a laptop with wireless capabilities. If we ever got pulled over our line was to be "We were performing a radio frequency survey of the area."

It was amazing what we found for network names. We actually left a note on one persons door because their wi-fi network name was their full street address and I was able to find them based solely on that. It was a friendly reminder letting them know the potential danger seeing as we were able to find their house with it.

This game sounds like a glorified version of the Mingling feature in The World Ends With You.
