Mafia LXXII: Star Trek Universe. Day 6. Transporter Malfunction.

lolmonade:

Dammit, Lucario, why didn't you take the bait early on in the game and counter vote against me when I voted against you?  lol

I'm torn.  I feel like I had to make a move one way or another this round, as I didn't get a single chance to assimilate ANYONE.  That plus the dwindling townie count meant I'd be more or less finished if I didn't get someone on my side.

Figured Silenced was a good target given he was consistently casting aspersions about me without making a vote against me.  The plan was to get him to vote for me, hopefully make a case to get the townies to vote against either him or someone lurking, and move on the next day with an opportunity to start assimilation.  I DID think Silenced was mafia, but even if he was a townie, I didn't think he'd get voted out.  Just wanted to get targeted to produce a chance.

Kinda lame to get a cool role and not be able to do anything with it.  I don't regret my choice in the last round, but probably should have made a better attempt to find some townies to ally myself with earlier on, maybe that could have been enough to spare me.
Silenced:
I'm happy.

I'll spill out my thoughts at some point but I've got class and I'm just happy I finally won one of these fairly

I wouldn't have. I had my target set on you for the next round, which would've protected Stratos (though I had my sights set on him as well). I should've stuck with my gut and original votes for most of this game, but I can't be upset when there was no way for the town to confirm anything with night actions.

Congrats to the mafia for their win. When our detective was taken out so early, I had a strong feeling this would be the end result. As Picard, though, I had to keep trying and do what I could. I think the game was definitely over after the weekend break, based on voting participation. I have to give credit to Silenced, though, he played an excellent game.

With my role, I played a defensive game to minimize the threat of the borg. While I'm sure that disappointed Khush, lolmonade, and anyone hoping to see some borg chaos, I feel I made the right call, even with a town loss.

Silenced:
If there was any sort of mafia strategy, it just pretty much revolved around me running a circus in plain view while everyone else just operated behind my smokescreen. I figured if I could throw about some convincing logic and sway people with activity alone, I'd be able to take out a few townies before users started catching on.

Nobody ever caught me on my double standard with Lucario being a safe vote, because I ended up voting pokepal Day 1, which is arguably an even more secure option. He got quietly voted out and the typical disorder of Day 1 left pretty much all of us in the clear.

I actually did try and start a townie alliance to build up my credibility, which originally included Stogi and Mop, who I guessed were two of the regular innocents. Other than keeping up the appearance of a hard-working townsperson, I figured if I aligned hardcore with Stogi early on and put a lot of trust in him, he might function as a sort of ace in the hole should he return from inactivity. Day 2 otherwise went without any issues and TOP made for a pretty easy target to lynch.

Day 3, too much suspicion was on Insano, so I had to let that lynch go through. I wanted to keep my vote and pressure on Tofu rather than flip on the bandwagon, as I have no doubt that would have doomed me. Maintaining confidence in my own vote made me look more informed and townie-like rather than impulsive and dangerous. Despite that, I knew Tofu was possibly catching on and I had to throw him off me.

Day 4 I decided to take a step back and maybe let tensions divert elsewhere. I subtly threw in a vote against another easy target in nickmitch to see if it'd catch on and Tofu ended up taking me up on it. Once again, low voter turnout helped this go without a hitch.

Day 5 I expected to go completely differently. At this point in the game I knew lolmonade was going to vote against me and I figured Tofu would as well. Predictably, lolmonade made his move and I had to defend against him. The plan was always to lynch out lol that day; stevey investigated and found he was the Borg Queen. That left a few scenarios, such as 1) we lynch lolmonade, make the nightkill and win, 2) we lynch lolmonade, but the doctor gets off their ass and protects our nightkill--in which case I'm covered, since I just directed a successful vote against the Borg.

Instead, Tofu flipped on stevey, who I had publicly stated I had suspicions on. When things started to sway against him I made my move to try and convince Tofu of an alliance and that lolmonade was a greater threat. He took the risk and ended up changing to go against lolmonade. With Picard on our side, we were no longer a danger to the vote flip and we just coasted to victory.

I had Lucario/Dasmos pegged as the doctor but never decided on which one, and I often thought Dasmos was the Borg. Anything we didn't know, stevey just investigated and found for us. Stratos just played the quiet game and I put on a show.

--- End quote ---

And because you didn't really show up to play even after you learned you had a role.

However, in fairness, for the first time that I can ever recall, I did forget to send out a player the notice that they had a role. And it didn't have to be that way. Normally, after I've sent out all the roles, I would then check my sent messages in my pm box to make sure I hadn't missed anyone. So, I was thinking in my head after I finished sending out the notices that I should do my double check. But then I thought, why I am always doubting myself? I just finished going through everybody and sending their roles. It's not like there was a lot of people to lose track of. I didn't forget anyone so just move on. That's what I get for not double-checking and being lazy. There's a lesson for other hosts.

On top of that, I thought about sending a message to Lucario at the end of Day 1 to double check if he was going to use his protection on anyone since he hadn't sent one in but then I thought I shouldn't be managing the players and aiding them along if they forget things. But then Lucario disappeared. In fact, I don't think he logged on here for 3 - 4 days. Which is why the claim of him losing by not having his role is false. Maybe if he had shown up to play it might have helped the townie side win even if he thought he was just a townie. Much like Dasmos absence this game hurt the townies in lack of votes.

Since he finally showed up on Day 4, I sent him a message to ask if he was going to use his protection. The next day, he sent me a pm asking what protection and that he didn't get a role. That's when I had an Oh, crap, you gotta be kidding me moment and checked my sent messages to confirm that I had indeed forgot to send Lucario his notice. Total Insanolord mistake right there. That sucked. So, I let Lucario know his role and then asked if there was anyone he wanted to protect. His response was to go to the Dead Thread and basically inform the Mafia he had a role by telling everyone I forgot to give him his role. And that was it. Despite being around, he still never sent in any protections nor did he show up for the Day 5 vote.

So, easy to scapegoat me for forgetting to give him the role but even if I had sent him the info I'm not sure he'd have done anything with it considering his absence and general disinterest in the game. Finally, it should be noted that you can win the game as just a townie which something many players have done. Not having a role may make things a bit tougher but it's also a bit freeing in that you don't have to worry that your elimination from the game will also take away a townie role diminishing the townie's power. That's the story of Lucario and the forgotten role. Something for future hosts to remember. Always double check your work no matter how many games you've hosted.
