Morrowind is an AWESOME American RPG. If you like American style RPGS, get it. I make the distinction versus Japanese style RPGS. If you have the choice between the two..... DEFINITELY get the PC version as the Xbox version has bugs. If your PC can handle it..... definitely 100% the PC version...... the PC version has 2 expansion plus a hella lot of mods. If your PC can't handle it, the Xbox version BUT BE WARNED again that the Xbox version has bugs and crashes occasionally ( you gotta save !) . The Xbox version is beautiful. BUT IF you want the Xbox version...... I'd say wait a few months as I have heard that they will be releasing a brand new bug free Xbox Gold version with Morrowind, the expansions plus possibly some of the best mods.
Morrowind is awesome. You can go through the massive amounts of quests, side quests, etc. Or you can actually do nothing and just experience life in Morrowind. You can live a ' life ' there. You can build a small empire, a castle fortress , etc. There was one time when I played I pissed off some merchant NPC and he attacked me, I ran out of town..... he followed me, I jumped into the river ( beautiful water ) and SWAM for a like a mile and he was right on my butt swimming after me to attack me. It was that awesome. If I attacked & killed him in town, I'd have the cops after me..... but since I was so far outside of town and in the river.... I killed him there and his body is still there.

Ehhh...don't be afraid of the Xbox version.  The Xbox bug is rather rare.  I bought Morrowind for the Xbox on release day, and have never had a problem with it....ever.

Now, it is a little different from some RPG's you may have played.  I personally like it quite a bit.  I probably have over 140 hours on it.  Tons of different weapons, armor, magic, and you can customize your own magical weapons, armor, and spells.

Some of the quests are lengthy.  And initially, travelling long distances can be tedious.

Some really great graphics.  Sometimes, you just find yourself staring at the landscape/cityscapes/sunsets.  Good weather effects.

Morrowind has one of the best musical scores of any game out there.

You can join different guilds, and take on tons of "side quests".

My opinion is, if you have an Xbox, rent it, and try it out for yourself.

sounds like Animal Crossing

I haven't played it, but I'm dying to - I got it cheap used for the PC, and I'm waiting until I have a decent enough computer to run it.

Bethesda Software announced yesterday that there will be a MORROWIND: GAME OF THE YEAR edition for the Xbox which included the original game ( Patched I assume ) plus both expansions, etc.
So if you are planning on getting it for the Xbox...... WAIT.
