Luigi's Mansion.
I kind of want to go back and play it.
And Metroid II would be a pain to obtain legally...

Shame on your for not already owning a copy.

I actually played through Metroid II a couple of years ago.  It's still a fun game, but the lack of a map is really painful.  It's also deceptively linear (if you can figure out where you're supposed to go next).

I'd love to play Metroid II, but i don't have a working Gameboy anymore.  The screen bit the dust some time ago.  :(

Luigi's Mansion for me.

You can play Metroid II on a GBC, GBA, or SP... and I can't remember about Micro.  I bought my copy for about $15 (Player's Choice edition) in late 1998, because the GB Color was my first handheld system.  Technologically, it is a remarkable feat.  It's also an interesting "missing link" between Metroid and Super Metroid.

Although I respect Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, it is not a game I want to play again.  I'm also not keen to pay $8 for a game in which I probably can't beat the first level.

I voted for Metroid II just because no one else had yet, and I nominated it.  But any of these choices would be great.  I got SF Adventures in the mail yesterday, so I'll have that ready to go if we ever decide to do that game.

I'm still using my original 1991 SNES. I have a brand new-condition one I found a couple years ago waiting in the wings to get me through the next 20 years, but.... back on topic....

Clearly it is if you're debating it, Dasmos. I don't see how you can claim a mild sequel to two Pokemon Stadiums is more noteworthy than a launch GameCube with no sequel that essentially introduced dual-analog control to gamers only familiar with Nintendo consoles. You can say you like Pokemon Colosseum more, but your claim is silly.

I think GP meant "cutting grass with scissors", i.e. a difficult and frustrating task.

I'm impressed at how votes continue to come in very late in the polling process.  I hope everyone who has voted will listen to the show and attempt to play along with whichever game wins.

I just stumbled back onto this site after registering a long time ago, but never posting.  This is a great idea.

I'd gladly play any of the games listed.  I do have Super Ghouls and Ghosts for the GBA, but I've really not got past the first level. I don't have the same level of commitment to finishing things that I used to.   My vote is for Luigi's Mansion however as I never got around to playing that title back in the early Gamecube days.

Depends on which game wins.  ;)

I just played Luigi's Mansion a couple years ago.  I'm not quite ready to play it again.

Again, this is why I think older titles are better suited for something like this.  Chances are no one (well, besides me) has played Metroid II in the past few years.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Go Luigi!

I've been looking for an excuse to play that game again.

The poll has now closed, and Luigi won.  SGnG will automatically be included in the next poll.  (Btw, I voted for Drill Dozer!)  If you want to play along, start looking for a copy of LM now.  We'll be discussing it on the show next week, and I hope to have some insightful forum posts by then!

I've created a separate discussion thread for RetroActive #2, so discussion can be moved over there.  That's how we'll do it from now on; a poll thread, and a separate discussion thread once we've decided on a game.

awww i missed the vote. However i'm super glad you guys don't have to play Super Gouls and Ghosts. That game is TORTURE. I played it on GBA, and I was determined to beat it. I finally did and guess what  " You forgot the key, start from the beginning" I was like WHAT I GOT TO THE FINAL LEVEL AND NOW THIS BS !!!!!

Since I had super gold armor and amazing weapon I didn't care, but the stupid water 2nd level broke me and I gave up and traded it into gamestop. So much time to memorize the levels and frustration and I have to beat it 2x. If I would have known that beforehand I wouldn't have bothered.

Luigi's Mansion is a ton of fun, I rented it back in the early days of Cube. I think I beat it too.

Who can't beat it? There won't be any "Oh I am at this part of the game" type discussion.

Here's my prediction for most of the comments we'll see in the discussion thread:
"Wow, my dog just completed this game!"
"Oh yeah, I forgot that Luigi's Mansion was a mini-game fest with only one mini-game."
"I spent more time putting the disc into the cube than I did finishing the game."
"Here's a challende for you, see if you can beat the game without blinking your eyes. Not one blink. It's surprisingly easy!"

A good number of Nintendo games can be beaten in a matter of a few hours during the first time through; difficulty can influence the fun factor, but there isn't always a direct correlation.

Luigi's Mansion is short, and it did really need more gameplay depth.  I still thoroughly enjoyed it at the Gamecube's launch, and it's still a game that I'm looking forward to replaying.  SGnG, by comparison, was pretty forgettable for me.  I rented it once, played it awhile, and found that it was about as interesting to me as a jelly stain on a lampshade.  There were much better platformers in the SNES gen.

When it is eventually selected, I intend to add a little more to the discussion than trolling the actual game discussion thread, as I see that you are already busy doing.   8)

Edit: Lindy, I love that avatar.  My wife and I saw that episode of It's Me Or the Dog; hee-larious!
