It's worth mentioning that you don't need to purchase a Steam game for your free Steam account as there are a few free games to play. Some that stick out for me are:
Alien Swarm - A top-down co-op shooter.
TrackMania Nations Forever - A time-trial focused racing game where there is no contact with opponent cars.
Even if you're not interested in Steam games, there are quite a lot of community features including chat rooms for Steam groups. Though, I can see how alternatives like IRC or Skype can be more useful.

Steam Id = Sundoulos, of course. Picked up some co-op games, such as Left for Dead 2, Resident Evil 5 and Portal 2 recently. I wouldn't mind trying them out sometime.
