(Yes, I realize the last time I did this, it occurred in March. I forgot about it until just now. Cut me some slack.)

In order to celebrate our heritage (and the fact that we tend to know more about old video games than most people) I declare April 2008 is Semi-Obscure Eight-Bit Video Game Character Month!!

Pick a character (any character) from an eight-bit video game (NES, or otherwise). Original sprites are encouraged, however, artwork and/or renderings (official or fan-made) are accepted. According to the rules, you shouldn't pick major characters (no Mario, Link, Samus, etc). A general rule of thumb: if your mom knows who the character is, they're not obscure enough.

Isn't that one of the final bosses? I think your mom probably knows Freddy Krueger but wouldn't know that sprite is supposed to be him.

Also isn't that cyclops thing known as the Yellow Demon? I know everyone calls it that.

I think I'll go with Bunny-san, not 8-bit but definitely obscure.

Right on. I didn't want to use the same one I did before cuz the rules was if my mom knew who it was it didn't count and she was the one who bought use XEXYZ and she played it a lot so would recognize the character. This game I wasn't allowed to play so she never knew when I had it.

Any other month (except vudu-month and Iwata-month) is fine--take your pick.

No way dude, Saturn mighta sucked but it had some great original characters, clockwork night, that guy from NiGhts, the dudes from Panzer Dragoon, Bug! (hey Bug itself has some cool characters) virtua fighter, Fighting Vipors, the Virtua Cops.... ok maybe not some great characters but enough to chose from plus PS had SPyro, Resident Evil, Crash, Gex, 3D0 had the dudes from Way of the Warrior, 32X had Tempo, there's plenty of characters to go around.

Ok so make October Ode to the rat month. You can use my old mushroom avatar and images of famous rats, like splinter, that pixar character, the three blind mice, Mickey Mouse, and others.

I finally made one I like. It's the M-308 Gunner from Metal Storm, one of the NES games I drooled over in Nintendo Power but never got to play.
