Should we start one via Virtual Console Gifting?

It's just a thought i had, because lately i've been doing nicer things alot more often than normal. I helped a woman in my building load up a U-Haul truck she was trying to herself, i helped another woman (and elderly one) with groceries and just alot of other things like that.

I dont want to say its the "christmas spirit" or whatever, because honestly it doesnt even feel like its close to xmas around here and i dont stop to think "hmm maybe it'd be nice to help this person out" i just do it and realize later on that i did a good deed. So i was thinking about this gift feature and it'd be cool to give one of you guys a gift, since i'm already donating a bunch of clothes toys and even food already. Why not?

If anyone else is up to, let me know! My only rule is forum regulars only. Not that i dont want to give a random poster here a gift, it'll just be easier to know the person you're gifting to

I am in but my wii is in the shop right now and my wii friend code is invalid . . . so I could do this.

1.) Whoever gets me waits until I get my wii back, in the meantime I will send whoever I get their game on my roommates wii.  I am sure whoever gets me can be patient and trusted to wait until I get my new wii back.

Sounds good, so far nothing but good comments ('cept you Crimm, now you get NOTHING).

Now i just have to figure out a way to have you guys pick names..

heres my  idea, but im open to others so feel free to tell me what you think:

1. We compile a definitive list of everyone participating by a certain date and lock this thread

2. I'll assign a number to each person on the list and i'll let you PM (or IM or email or Wiimail) me with a number (say 1-30) and i'll tell you who you picked.*

3. We'll need to figure out a day when to "exchange" gifts. the 25th would be nice but its understandable some or most people will be with family and/or not have access to wii.

4. It would be helpful if participants include a "wishlist" in their sig. Its optional, and if you choose to please add more than one title to giveyour secret santa an option. Again, its optional, if theres really just one title you HAVE to have and choose to put that up go ahead, but just know you're taking the fun out of everything

*Or maybe an "outside party" would like to be in charge of  this aspect, someone not participating so that i could participate too.

Also know, this isnt meant to be a celebration of christmas, think of it as "toy day" or whatever it was in Animal Crossing. You dont have to be part of a certain faith to give a gift to your fellow forum members!

The only other "rule" i have, i suppose, is a limit of X amount of dollars. I mean, if you want to go crazy and buy a bunch of games more power too ya, but ya dont have to splurge.

I think everyone should list (a) what games they already have, (b) a few games/genres they'd be interested in, and (c) any games they absolutely do not want.

For the games they don't want, it shouldn't be because they're universally considered bad games (hopefully people won't buy each other Ecco Jr.) but for any number of other reasons.  For example, I don't want Super Metriod (because I already own it on SNES) and I don't want Super C (not because it's a bad game, but because I already have Contra III and I'm holding out for the original).
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

yeah thats a good point. i was going to say "well we dont need to know what game your friend has because the Gifting features tells you if that friend has a game or not"

so we still need a cut off date so we can start picking who gets who. I say give it till Friday, then we lock the thread up, sound good?

Spread the word too folks, the more people who want to buy games for one another the better

Wii Friend Code: "so just in case one of us doesn't have it" (especially me since I will be using my roomies Wii)
Games they want:
Type of games they like:

j/k I'm in.

But seriously, Crimm should run the Secret Santa Program.

Everyone should PM Crimm w/:
1) Wii Code
2) 3-5 games that they want (any price range)
3) Region
4) $$$ willing to spend* <optional>

after that is PM'd, Crimm will at random send someone's info to another participant who will be able to choose which game they think that person would like best based on the provided list and their own budget.

Well, I don't want to take anything away from Crimm but if you are looking for an outside party to conduct this affair, I'd be willing to manage it for you.

As moderator of this affair, I would establish the following rules:

1. The sign-up for this thread closes at Midnight Friday December 14, 2007 Pacific Time.

Best of all, we don't have to worry about locking this thread because you only have to check the time of the original post of a person to see if they make the cut-off time or not. This way, the thread is still open for people to talk in when the gifts are exchanged.

2. Eligibility for this swap will be determined by myself, Easycure (if he still wants to help in the control of this affair) and one more person if people think it is neccessary.

The reason for this is again to make sure that it is somebody most forumers recognize and would have an idea about their likes and dislikes. As well, it prevents people from just joining this forum to get a free game or create duplicate accounts. However, do not feel that you have to be a prolific forum member to join in. Just as long as you are a recognizable name on the forums, give it a shot. If someone's eligibility is challanged, then I or the triumvirate would rule on the issue. Although the purpose isn't to make this an elitist thing, it's can be very hard to know what to give "forumer435" when no one really knows anything about them.

3. For those who pass eligilibility, I would then require a pm from that person with the following information:

   Wii Friend Code
Games that you do not want
   Games that you have
   Some ideas for gifts
When you would be available to do the exchange
If there is a price range you wish to stay within (optional)

With this information, I can then figure out which day the swap will occur and if possible a certain time period. The giver will now have the correct friend code needed to send the gift. The giver will know what to avoid. Currently, I would not send the giver the ideas for gifts unless asked for by the giver because they are unsure about what the giftee would like. In that case, they can pm me for more information and I would send them the ideas for gifts. Finally, if a person does have a ton of games already, they may wish to specify what they do not have, if that makes things easier. Or a person may request they only want a game for a certain type of console. Then they would only send me information related to that console's catalogue. (I.E. Games they don't want for the Genesis, Games they already own for the Genesis.) If this is the case, then those who are sticking to a tight budget may be assigned to such a person if the console games fall in their price range.

4. At the end of sign-ups, I will then randomly distribute the names of everyone and assign who gives to who. I will then send people a pm with the information they need.

5. I hope Pale signs up.

This way one lucky person will recieve Kid Icarus.

Of course, if Crimm wants to take charge like you are all pushing him to do, that's fine. But, if you'd like me to run it, vote now. If the majority agree, I will began implemeting these rules later tomorrow. And if there are any questions or suggestions, just add them to thread.
Whoever said, "Cheaters never win" must've never met Khushrenada.

Khush, your plan is too complicated. Can we keep this as simple as possible?

1) Wii Code
2) 3-5 games that you want (any price range) <this eliminate the need for "do not want", "already have" & "gift ideas">
3) Region <cause we can't ship digital content over the seas.....because of pirates...?>
4) $$$ willing to spend* <optional>

That format keeps things short and simple.

I like simple, and I am signing up for this game.

But if you just get the 3 games you want, there is no real means to guess who your secret santa is...and that is no fun.

Instead I think it would be better for the Secret Santa to buy games that are their favorite games, or hints to whom they are...so people can try to guess.  It makes it more of a mystery of what you are going to get.

I am still curious what happens if somebody buys you a game you already have...perhaps you are just given the points.

You don't have to buy the games that are listed, but that will give you an idea of what games that person likes, and if you feel there is a better version of that type of game then you can buy it for them. But if you want  to just use the list provided and choose a game or two off of there, then you could do that too.

Now that I think about this, Nintendo's system requires both people to enter each other's code in order to send messages, and I'd assume the same goes for VC games. Just entering the code of the person you're giving to wouldn't work, they'd need to enter yours as well.

Kush i like how precise you want the execution to be but im with everyone else, we need to keep it simple.

1. send a list of 3-5 games you want, to help the "santa" get something you actually want (and this eliminates the need to list what games you have)

3. a price range so we know who we can/cant assign you (say you only want to spend $5 and you're stuck with someone that wants $10 N54 games

4. include your region since i dont think we can gift overseas (lame)

5. Friend code*

*a thought just accord to me. Knowing nintendo.. will you need to have the person you're gifting on your wii-friend list or will they need to have yours? theres a few of you who havent added me yet, for example, and it would suck if i happen to notice one of your names in dark bold the same day i get a gift. it ruins the surprise. Another though.. when i recieve the gift will it say "heres a gift from NWRmember07"?

oh well screw it.

My vote goes to Crimm since he's the commuinity manager and its partly his job. If Crimm doesnt want to do it, and Kush is still up for it it'll go to him.

We still have to decide on a date for when we actually send gifts out. I say we also include a date of when we would like the gifts (for instance: 12/11 - 12/14) that way we dont miss valuable gaming time.

Actually i dont like that idea. scratch that.

anywho, we definatley need to figure out who is running this BIOTCH fast, but the deadline is definately friday for whoever it does, since it gives us an ample amount of time to go through the list of who's in or not. Again its not an elitist thing but as was said earlier, we cant have people joining the forums just to exploit the kindness of giving a gift. That one part is certain.

Listen whatever you guys decide on a plan fine. . .
BUT

I think it would be wise to exchange with one person back and forth so when they get the friend code it will enable that person to send the gift.

Think of it this way,  I end up with Shyguy in the draw and so I add his friend code to my list and try to send him his gift.  Wouldn't the gift NOT SEND because he didnt have my friend code?  So the solution to this problem is this:

1.) 2 people are chosen at a time and end up swapping friend codes that way
2.) A list of everyone's friend codes are posted in the thread so everyone can make sure they have added everyone to the list.

oh and heres a simple solution for the friend code issue that arose. Since the cut off point is this friday, how about once the list is made of everyone participant, we all be sure to exchange friend codes of everyone participating before the Gifting date.

Is mantidor in the same region as the rest of us?  Gift giving can't transcend regions.

For the point value, I say it's recommended that you stick with NES or TG-16 games (500 and 600 points, respectively).  If you want to give more, feel free, but don't expect to get anything more yourself.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

well i'd let the figter decide, some might want to give more than others so why limit them? The only fair thing is to give people the option of listing at least 1 NES game you want so that if the person that gets you in the secret santa has that option of spending less.

i'm cutting off the the participant list tomorrow. you have until 11:59pm Eastern time to join in our reindeer games.

we still dont have someone to lead this thing, i still would like to nominate Crimm since he's the Community Manager and most likely will be able to get online more often than i do to make this go smoothly. Crimm, if you'd rather not just say the word and maybe Kushrenada can do it (if you still want to Kush) if not i'll do it.

Even if a price is set people will still have to shell out 20 bucks or more for Wii points. I agree that people should give out whichever they want, as long as its a game the person wants or its not total crap. You can spend a 1000 Wii points on a game and turn out to be total crap.

Anyways, just wanted to confirm my participation. Since my 360 is dead I'll be going to Gamestop soon so I'll be picking up a card soon.

for the record it is posible to spend just 10 dollars buying Wii points in the shop channel.
The difference I was trying to focus on was the fact if you spend 10 or 20 dollars, it's not the whole 20 dollars that is spent on the other person.  if you just spent 5, that 15 dollars in your account to spend on VC games for yourself

Crimm, you now make a page with a deadline to have Wii friend codes listed in the thread, along with suggested games, genres, or tastes.  Whoever is randomizing the names participating needs to send out those names ASAP.  Once a person receives the name of the person they are to gift, they may gift.

So who was randomizing names?

Did we agree on a deadline?  Kush and I can do it.  One person should run the thread and the other should do the drawings.  That way it is double blind.

The person running the thread assigns numbers and the person doing the drawings draws randomly. We can split PM duity.  Kush and I are going to get the thread going ASAP.  Tomorrow most likely, since I need to hear back from him first on how we want to do this.

sad...

i was thinking maybe next friday could be the gifting date? if we wait any longer than that, we run the risk of either:

A. not being able to send gifts out because xmas is right around the corner and there might be family matters to attend to.

B. just not have time to enjoy these gifts and post about how awesome they are (lol)

we need to agree on a date so that our host can get this thing rolling!

I made that joke like six months ago.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

why don't we just post everybodies secret santa in one of the threads....
I don't think it will be a big secret will it, I think it tells you when someone on your friends list buys you a game.  I just think that would work easier than sending PM's out to everybody

Um...That would be ruining the point of SECRET Santa. Even if the system tells you who sent you a present you won't know till it happens. It will still provide a nice surprise.

well, that may be true.  However, the slower everybody is to get their profile's posted, the less time there is to finalize everything and send out messages to everybody

It would be nice if we could do the gift exchange friday, then we could all post what we got and what we thought of the game we got
