Skies of Arcadia Legends = Great Game

EggyToast:

I'm about halfway through, I think, and I'm still enjoying it.  There are some times when I get bored with it (like when I'm searching for an important discover but just can't find it and I keep getting attacked, which is when the white map really comes in handy (I love how you can completely swap your equipped gear during battle!)), but overall I think it's great.  There are some cheezy parts, and some parts that are like "hmm, wonder where they got that idea," but it's certainly an entertaining story and they do a good job of keeping it serious without being boring.  The characters are light-hearted and the fun-loving air-pirate thing really works well.  As in, the characters actually smile and make fun of each other (which is desperately needed in RPG, in my opinion).

The graphics are bumped up on the main characters, and it shows -- when you see a character that's not very important to the game, you can tell that they were simply a texture placed over a basic polygon shape.  But the main characters look great and, really, they're the most important graphics in games like this anyway.  Many of the boss characters look fantastic too (like the steelskin spell? whoa!), and since those are the long battles anyway, it's really a nice touch.  I'm happy they were smart about which graphics they improved, rather than spending years retooling the entire game.

So the battles look good, and the bosses look good, and the main characters look good, but the towns and secondary characters don't look so good.  They're not Ocarina of Time bad, but they're not SFA good, either.

"Sky":

I heard that they sold out pretty badly on their first shipment cause they limited demand.

Also remember that the original Skies of Arcadia was a low budget game from Sega, that's why they didn't have too much confidence in its sails.

The low budget part I know is true, the rest is what I've heard.

Grey Ninja:

Some truly great things come from low budget projects.  Xenogears, Star Wars, Final Fantasy 1, and so many others...  It's actually quite surprising.

Hybrid Hunter:

It'd be cool if Skies of Arcadia Legends sell so well it sorta becomes a franchise for the Gamecube.
Anyone know when this game is released in Australia?

Naiku:

I didn't have any trouble finding a copy and neither did my brother, I got one at a local Sam Goody (in a small town), and I'm not really sure where my brother got his but he didn't have any trouble.  I wonder where you live, I guess some places must've gotten more copies than others.  It's a really great game either way and you certainly shouldn't give up looking for a copy.

Edit:

oh and syther, or whatever your name is, GAMEPLAY is what your bying, not the looks or anything else, people who buy just for the look or whatever else kinda bother me, I guess it's cause I've been playing since the Atari days when resolutions were so low that pixels were the size of a house that graphics and sound don't bother me alot, but seriously you buy a game to play it not to look at it.   Well I guess it's your opinion, but if your afraid of looking uncool 'cause you play a game that doesn't look cool, then you'll really miss out on alot of good games.  Plus I kinda like the way everything looks (I didn't at first, but I do now plus:
