Hands down this game is awesome...and coming from a relatively busy person, it isn't short at all.  This is the direction the DK series needs to go in.  It isn't just another platform...it is a whole new game concept...  I hope we see many more games like this in the future.

I don't think Nintendo would hesitate to give a small Game Dev a kit as long as they have something to go on.  It makes sense that a dev that has never made a game before shouldn't be allowed to get a dev kit, otherwise they'd be giving them out to everyone.  Personally thats why PC gaming fits into the industry sooo well.  If you have a machine that plays the games, you have a machine that can make the games and thats a nice thing.  It isn't too much to ask of would-be developers to have them get their feet wet in the PC world first.

Also, if a small dev puts out a great PC game, I'm sure Nintendo would get in line to throw dev kits and financial backing at them...its just achieving the great PC game that is the hard part.

Cool, thanks ^^

BTW, Rick is right...its a friggin sweet plugin for Firefox.  Download it if you don't have it...

The other thing that makes this so out there is that game prices have generally gone down this generation.  There are so many more 20-30 dollar games than there were before.  Things like Capcom's across the board cheaper prices and Namco releasing a game like Katamari at 20 buck are great for the consumer.  I think the biggest problem with most entertainment items is that companies rely on this fixed pricing schemes.  DVDs should be 20 bucks when they come out, even if its a B or straight to video movie.  (This even seems to be rising)  Thats just stupid.  Nintendo can release the new Zelda at 60 bucks, but they sure as hell can't release Donkey Kong Jungle Beat at 60 bucks.  Jungle Beat isn't a bad game, but it just isn't the type of game that warrants that high of a price.  If Activision releases both Doom IV and Disney's Generic Extreme Sports Adventure XVI at 60 dollars each they are going to be in for a rude awakening.

Microsoft and Sony's bread and butter is the casual gamer....  If they release a console at 500 bucks I would HAVE to think that they would shoot themselves in the foot.  The X-Box didn't even really start selling until it got away from the 300 dollar price point.

Rick, or anyone who uses adBlock.....

I know you probably don't want to answer stupid tech questions but,

AdBlock works great....blocks swfs just like you said, but how do you unblock them?  I click on the adblock tab that appears over it and set up the filter.  The flash goes away and all is fine...

When I view the blockable elements, the swf is red and italicized and I can't seem to unblock it...  What am I missing?

Yeah, as bad as the reviews for Gauntlet Dark Legacy are, if you are playing with friends it can still be a laugh riot, especially seeing as it can be found in bargain bins for 5-10 dollars.

Yeah, the thing that got me was what someone quoted from an IGN mailbag....where the guy responding talked about not being able to comprehend what Nintendo had planned...  Rick is really the first person I've seen that has come out and put it as simply as it probably is.

I used to think the Hard Drive in the X-Box was a good thing, but that was when I was still in the cartridge mind set of the n64.  I love the fact that I can cart memory cards to people's houses, the office, or school, and have all my save games.  With cartridges you could bring the whole game and that was fine too, but with an internal hard drive your saves are tied to your system which is quite crummy.  I know the X-Box had the whole memory card thing too but why buy memory cards when you can save for free? I dunno, its just a dilemma.

Hard drives are needed for games like FFXI...too bad sony didn't think so.

I think it would be best suited for the DS personally... so keep it 2d and traditional.

Yeah, 4swords in a PSO sort of way would definately be cool.

Ian, I have to completely disagree with you thinking MMOs are a lazy type of design.  To do an MMO right is one of the most complex things in game design.  The MMO i have the most experience with FFXI definately has a ton of flaws, but SE is doing some great things to keep the gamers involved.  Though I'm not there yet 'end game' fights are supposed to be incredibly complex and have very deep strategic elements.  World design is a tough thing...  i dunno, i can't really put words to the whole thing but it is definately not a lazy form of design... its an incredibly hard thing to design and that is the reason so many suck.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: EBGAMES & OTHER STUPID STORES
« on: March 15, 2005, 07:30:21 AM »
My generalizations come from working in retail.  I know for a fact that garbage like talking people into pre orders comes down from the top.  I also know that several stores in the area do the same thing.  I will grant you that this *could* be a regional thing but it definately isn't a single store doing it.  I can almost picture the store meetings where the managers discuss what corporate wants the clerks to peddle this week.  Thats corporate retail for you...  and I challenge you to deny that.

By the way, if anyone wants to start bashing circuit city, I can probably confirm everything they say as fact.....  Go ahead, ask me something...

Edit: Jeez pale, read the guys entire post..

I see that you are acknowleging the fact that you are told to do these things..and that, in my opinion, is all the more reason to convince people not to but into this crap.  It forces you guys to be annoying jack asses when you probably aren't, and that isn't right.  I just think of myself selling service plans last year and how crappy it made me feel.  You, as an employee can't say the things i'm saying..but I want you to know, my posts aren't a "Gamestop employees suck" type thing... they are a "Gamestop the company sucks" thing.

Yeah, i feel the same way Rick.  The stupid 'news' sites are gonna make everyone think that Nintendo is giving away Internet access...then when it turns out to be what it surely really is, everyone is gonna bitch about how crappy Nintendo is....even though they are doing for free what microsoft is charging 50 a year for...  -_-

I don't really see how it could be based on 4 swords gameplay....  5000 links running around would still be absolutely stupid...  Fully online 4-swords with match making would be kick ass though.  It could store individual stats like how often you have the most crystals/rupees, and also like average completeion time so you could see how much of a team player someone is....  Still include new levels to download and it would be cool...

True MMORPGs are majorly resource intensive for developers.  Developers who try and make more than one often stretch themselves too thin and one of the games becomes stagnant really quickly.  Nintendo should concentrate on a full Pokemon MMO and thats it.  It, as a series, lends its self the best to the type of game BY FAR!  I do think the free thing could carry through for it too.  They would just need to charge for almost all expansions as expansion packs, develope it in a way that the expansions aren't required, and enough people would still by them...  ACK what a tangent... I'll stop now...

As for Animal Crossing, it isn't really a 'traditional' MMO either.  Having each player set up their own town would be more of a match making system than MMO.  People can visit anyones town but only if that person has their game up and running...  At least thats how I picture Animal Crossing online.

I went into gamestop last night to pick up katamari, I asked if they had gotten dk:jb or touch and go in yet, they said not till tomorrow, then argued with me for 10 minutes about why i need to preorder.  EVERYONE NEEDS TO STOP PRE ORDERING STUFF!  I'm so sick of getting pestered about it....  Ya know the t-shirt that says "No I don't want the strategy guide?"  Well now they need to make one that says "I don't want to preorder anything so SHUT THE HELL UP!"

This makes you wonder how they are gonna handle online match making at all.  Are the names we register on the DS gonna become screen names?  That'd be pretty sweet but then there would surely be duplicates so some people would have to rename themselves.
