Nintendo Gaming / Re: SD Card Channel!
« on: March 27, 2009, 11:47:22 PM »
I had a strange thing happen with Bit Trip Beat. I was playing it off the SD card and it didn't save my game.

By that I mean, level 2 wasn't unlocked and my high score wasn't saved.  I stressed out that it was some SD glitch so I tested out playing off wii system menu where it DID save my game.

Then I moved it back to the SD card and played some more, got a new high score, figured it wouldn't be saved, but when I backed out and fired it up again, it WAS in fact saved....

So what gives... did my system just glitch out the first time or something? Who knows.

Those could be the only three... I don't know either.. but that's still three to vote from.

I'd say that makes you insane. :)

I could see having that opinion if the remake was JUST the 3D graphics... but the cut scenes, voice acting, and general flow are ALL so much better, especially when you get towards the end of the game.

You would be insane to want to play original IV on VC when you could be playing the awesome DS remake.

I nominate Bomberman Blast.

Well it's time for another WiFi night! Vote for all of the days you can play! Thursday has been removed because it won last week.

As for game nominations, we are trying something different this month.

In honor of the new SD storage solution from Nintendo, we are going to be playing a WiiWare game!

Therefore only nominations for WiiWare titles will be accepted.

This poll will end at some point on April 1st.

TalkBack / DSi May Face Shortages

I'm sure most of our dedicated readers remember how wrong most of the people on staff here were when it came to the Wii's launch.  What was the line?  "You'll be able to walk into any Wal-Mart on launch day and pick one up."  Boy were we way off, and we still take crap about it to this day!  Well this time I'm here to tell you the opposite for the DSi.  We are hearing some rumblings from a well placed source that the system is receiving a very small initial shipment.

So what does this mean for you? It may already be too late but you should probably try and find a place to pre-order as soon as possible if you want to get a system next week.  If that fails, just try and get to the store as early in the morning as possible.  I personally pre-ordered my system on Amazon.  Right now it is saying my expected ship date is April tenth even though the system comes out on the fifth.  Does this mean I'm not getting one from the first batch or is Amazon just being slow? It's hard to say, but I placed my order on February 24. That's pretty early to not have one shipped on the release day.

The larger screens, downloadable games, and rumor of a possible Game Boy Virtual Console must be making the new DS quite the hot commodity.

Thanks for the kind words... yeah there is no other gravity in it... explosions cause shockwaves which moves the cloud.

I don't know how those guys got those high scores. I don't think they cheated though as far as I can tell.

There's a lot more I'd like to do with this if I ever had the chance... maybe I will some day.

So over the past couple months in my spare time at work and at home I threw together this silly Star Formation game.

Discover Magazine "published" it on their site.  Check it out if you want. =P

The famicom version of druaga is already out in Japan, so they obviously aren't worried about rereleasing the "same" game.

Mine was from a separate Wii Speak package, not from a bundle... though I'm not sure how the bundle came.

Oh I did it from my "stuff you've downloaded" list, as I noticed it when I was checking to make sure I had all my games on my SD card. It's strange that you don't notice it on yours. Weird.

Does anyone else find it ironic that stevey, the king of needlessly bashing NWR for supposedly being anti-nintendo, is the one finding ridiculous fault with this update?

My hunch says he's trying to rationalize the continued use of pirated VC games, which makes him a bad guy.

I went into Wii Shop and dled the Wii Speak upgrade, so no, I don't think it happens automatically. I dont' know what the upgrade does though.

I'm with Tycho from PA... onlive is a crock. It's going to be the next Phantom console.

Button latency and lag in general will keep this from ever taking off.  If I were the ceo I'd take all the venture money and move to Mexico.

Why on earth would Wario force a tie? Totally illogical.

Pff, what the hell.

Ya know what surprises me the most about this update? The fact that there is an actual progress bar when loading a game off SD. Holy crap! I can actually tell that something is happening!

Well I want to watch more basketball and not this thread so I'm going to remove my vote from the big tie pool.  Spak PM'd me a good theory that Maxi is mafia, so I'm going with him.

Vote Maxi

What the devil is going on in this thread? I think it's hilarious that I voted for Vudu as a joke... then forgot all about mafia because of the news and stuff from GDC, only to come back and see that I've started a bandwagon. =P

Vudu is just as likely to be mafia as anyone, so... meh.  But if a tie means no one dies, then we are just giving the mafia more of an advantage.... sooo... hmm... when does voting end?

So I have to wonder... if this was what they were making.. why was it announced way back when as...

"The Wii Shop channel will be able to save games directly to the SD Card"

I don't understand the need to be cryptic there and not give the whole story.

Nintendo also released a couple trailers that show off the hardware and software of the DSi. Check them out here.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=18037

Included in Nintendo's 2009 Game Developer's Conference press kit were two DSi B-Rolls.  B-Rolls are given out to press so that portions of them can be edited in to video productions.

That said, we thought we might as well present them to everyone in their entirety.  The first features lustful pans of the hardware itself. The second includes shots of people enjoying DSi software.  Enjoy!

The trailer features the train traveling gameplay as well as some classic Zelda-style dungeon action. It includes many stylus oriented puzzles, just like Phantom Hourglass.

According to the keynote Spirit Tracks will ship for DS later this year!
