Marth still speaks Japanese while Ike speaks English :/

I was glad for that; it both creates continuity with Melee and gives Ike and Marth different cultural personalities. It's not like Ike's dialogue was so great you wanted twice as much of it anyway...

What annoys me is Ike's mouth moves to fit the JP dialogue, not the english =/

Speaking of control options . . . (and please someone correct me if I am wrong) the fact that the shoulder buttons on the cube controller no longer activate the shield unless fully pressed down is still throwing me off a lot . . .

I understand why it no longer works like it used to but still.

I miss the announcer for the menus too Ceric . . .

Honestly, I was expecting him first thing when I hit start (or play or w/e) the button is on the Wii menu to begin the game.

- I wish My Music allowed you to pick a few songs to play in an order or something, so many awesome tracks . . .

If you measuring stick is computer controlled bots... I am CONFIDENT that the difficulty is ramped up in Brawl over melee....

I believe a 5-7 in Brawl is the equivalent of a 9 in melee.

Very true.

I tried (for giggles) 3 level 9 comps TEAM battle. In Melee I would at least have a second or two to breath and perform attacks . . . in Brawl it's just . . . well it's like they just gang rape you.

The AI is a lot harder this time around with the level system.

I almost forgot . . .

REPLAY SAVES!

One of the all out BEST new features in Brawl. I've used it many-a-times already and absolutely love it. My first online battle, while laggy, ended hilariously with Kirby (me) winning with a miracle final smash KO-ing 2 players with no time left. Awesome stuff that I was happy to then show my friend who also enjoyed it.

Good stuff good stuff.

I finally kinda found my grove. After having 2 days off and extensively playing the game most of the day I now "get" most of the new mechanics and understand how old ones have changed.

It took me a bit but I am going to go solid with Kirby as my new main (64 was Pikachu and Melee was Link).

I think it just takes some time to find that character that matches your tastes. To be honest most of the characters in Brawl I find to be too sluggish with a lot of down time between attacks, Kirby is one of the few exceptions (to me and how I play).

My suggestion? Take some time and do practice mode and just have the computer do nothing. Try out some moves, combos, etc. Eventually you'll find one that just feels right and go with that =)

- I like how there is a golden sun song in the game.

- I like how hilarious the banana peel is, especially when chasing after a smash ball.

- I like the fact that Kirby can eat certain items (if he could do that in Melee I wasn't aware).

I never said the mode was worthless, in fact I've made plenty of stages already (and intend to make more) it just leaves me wishing they would have given us just a few more templates and objects to work with considering all the various backgrounds and template styles they used in SSE. It's there . . . so why not let them let us use them?

It's a great addition to the game that just leaves me wanting more.

It's also another example of why I wish Nintendo would have had a better online structure for downloadable content . . . but I digress . . .

Continue with the discussion sorry for being so negative. (Whoever said the pirate ship idea that was pretty cool I made one myself today).

Actually I picked up Brawl at the midnight launch, played a little before I had to sleep for work the next morning. That night a group of my friends from work and I got together and played multiplayer for about 4 hours or so. Most of the SSE I played through with a friend and the other night I played multiplayer with a friend once again.

So the vast majority of my time was played in multiplayer at this point. And as I've said before it's fun, I don't enjoy it as much as Melee but it is fun none the less.

I'm upset because this game was delayed so heavily and yet it is still so lacking.

My whole philosophy was that Nintendo was taking their time to get everything right for arguably their biggest traditional game for the Wii.

I have complimented the stages this time around though Obi-Kanobi, just saying the Stage Builder and it's "unlockable" content is garbage.

From a design stand point of seeing what was in the SSE (many diverse settings with many diverse "blocks" so to speak that made up each area) I was expecting to see a lot of that in the stage builder. The elements are there so why not include them in the stage building tools?

It just wreaks of incompleteness. So much potential.

Christ almighty, if you don't have something nice to say, then just stop with the whining.

Yeah Mashiro, your making people think outside the box and that makes pandas cry!

Seriously, stop voicing your opinion in a forum made for voicing your opinion. You might give the others here the crazy idea that they are allowed to put their opinions forth for others to read and comment on.

I'm not saying don't talk about it, I'm saying your probably never gonna be happy if a lot of the new stuff isn't up to par with what you were expecting.  Your probably suffering from over hype.

Personally I'm happy with new stuff, it means it'll be in the next one and the next one after that.   I know they could have had it that good this time, but they didn't, but I'm satisfied.  If it is this crappy next time, I'll be annoyed.

I'm sorry that I have just been negative about the game up and down. Maybe it's because I am getting older but . . . think of it this way:

If we get a smash game every generation (for argument sake) let's say the next one comes out in another 6 years as this was the gap from Melee to Brawl. I am going to be 29 years old . . . I don't feel like waiting my ENTIRE LIFE just to get a mode that is up to snuff with what should have been this time around.

Yeah I know it sounds weird but I am tired of waiting for the next incarnation of a game just to get what I want.

87
Just to echo Mr. Jacks statements, I know I have been very harsh on the game.

In fact I really haven't even posted on these forums this much in well, a very long time and all I have been doing is knocking the game.

Don't get me wrong, Brawl is still a lot of fun but I think that's because well . . . it's Smash Bros. The formula of fun for the multiplayer battles has always been there in one way shape or form.

It's the added stuff (or lack there for of) that makes me upset.

This isn't to say I don't enjoy playing the game it just feels like a lot of missed opportunities are glaring me right in the face as I play over Melee.

I just hope Nintendo releases another Smash! either by the time their next system comes out or i the same life span of the Wii but I doub't that'll happen.

I like that concept Svevan. It certainly would change up the repetitive nature of the current main pokemon line of games.

Link is a lot more nerfed and useless than he was in Melee.

Fixed ;)

Unfortunately Pap64, Ganondorf feels WAY too slow in Brawl to me. He is still very much so a clone of Falcon and while his moves do pack a punch to even get off his "Falcon Punch" is near impossible as the charge up time is ridiculous.

Still try em out maybe I just don't flow well with him . . .

Yeah . . . the whole unlocking thing for stage builder parts?

*SPOILER ALRERT*

Is crap.

Enjoy getting around 4 extra parts total.

Oh and looking for more backgrounds? Yeah there is only 3.

Another mode made of extreme fail. Great concept, terrible execution.

Nintendo Gaming / Brawl vs Melee, which did you enjoy more and why?
« on: March 12, 2008, 09:21:44 PM »
As to not derail another thread I want to hear your opinions on which game you enjoy more and why.

I'm going to start by saying so far, Melee was far more fun for me. I found myself playing it every waking minute when it was first released and that enjoyment of playing lasted long after I had fully cleared the game.

For some reason, I don't get that joy from Brawl. I don't care about the stickers or trophies this time around. I just wanted to get all the unlockable characters and stages and be done with it just so I could use them all in multiplayer modes.

The fighting isn't as fun either for some reason. Maybe it's the slower speed or maybe it's the more "floaty" feel to the game but I can't get into the game like I get into Melee.

The items too don't stand out as much as they used to in Melee (minus the final smash orb). Too many items just seem to get "lost" in the stage design and many of them are so small they are hard to decipher when in a multiplayer match.

The online play is disappointing at best and really makes me wish Nintendo would have copied Microsoft with it's online structure.

If anything killed this title for me it was the delays. I just don't get that feeling of "Ohhhh this is why they needed the extra time" with this title.

The stages are the only aspect of the game that I say are (overall) better than Melee.

The roster also leaves a lot to be desired and all this extra time going into the game doesn't seem to have been well spent in terms of making unique characters.

I guess in the end it's hard for a game like Brawl to live up to the hype but that still doesn't make up for the fact that Melee felt more enjoyable of an experience.

Your thoughts?

SSE should have been one giant CG movie and once you were done watching it everything would have been unlocked so you can actually have some fun with the game =D

I shouldn't just knock on SSE though because truth be told the game doesn't feel like it's all that it was supposed to be.

Just my (sad) opinion.

What's so amazing about it?

I'm sorry but I find myself not impressed by the SSE at all. Yeah the cinemas were cool but pointless just like the mode itself.

It builds itself up to be something so epic and yet there is no solid story, no reason behind the events that unfold, nothing . . . it's just a bunch of soulless eye candy.

Are we supposed to be impressed? I'm not.

For all the delays and hype and well everything surrounding the game I am left feeling sorely disappointed.

SSE is a waste of time and a waste of resources for the game.

All I know is I want to punch who ever designed the whole menu system for Brawl.

It's absolutely terrible (stats included).

A bit of an update:

I still greatly dislike the new Link. The removal of his continuous attack from melee (these moves now rape in Brawl) is very disheartening, the speed at which he attacks and rebounds from attacks is very slow and overall after playing through many modes with him I just have to take him off my "main" list.

With that said . . .

I finally have gotten used to the new gameplay mechanics as it is indeed a mix of 64 style and melee style. After playing many hours with some friends the other night I have to say multi-player is still a blast even without a main heh.

Things I ABSOLUTELY HATE about the game though still remain though:

1) Why the hell did they remove the ability to gently press on the shoulder buttons to perform your characters shield/block move? If anything is throwing me off the most it is this. I understand that gameplay wise to match the other controllers they can no longer have a "press lightly for a slower going away shield" feature but by God I wish they mad a light press now just do the damned shield full tilt. More times than not I feel like I am blocking and about to dodge out of the way of something but I end up not because well...yeah need I say more?

2) Why the bloody hell are items SO DAMNED SMALL? Who the hell thought it was a good idea to have fucking pea sized items? "Hmm is it a bomb or is it a mine or is it food? who knows!" Very irritating to say the least . . .

3) Nintendo's mentally challenged decision to NOT allow you to transfer save data to a SD card. Why bring your save file to a friends house when you can just bring your whole system I guess was the mind set here.

Things I LOVE about the game:

1) Final Smash is fantastic. It adds a whole new level of franticness to the game that I just love. Having 4 people just stop smashing each other only to try and chase after that Final Smash orb is just hilarious and a lot of fun.

2) The music and graphics are absolutely beautiful. I love how all the characters mesh so well together from all their respective games.

3) It's still the most fun multiplayer game on the market.

4) The stages are really fun to play on and have a lot of variety.

Things that URK me about the game:

The terrible menu set up.

Overall I am having fun with the game but I think spending so much time watching the dojo updates killed a lot of the "Wow!" factor for me. Which is to be expected and no fault of the game. Many of my co-workers are wondering why I am not more pumped about the game and I simply say "I feel like I have played through it all already, I just want to unlock everything and play people in VS". I feel like nothing can really surprise me at this point and just wanna blow past all the collecting/unlocking stuff and get down to the nitty gritty.
