Nintendo Gaming / RE: Advance Wars Series of Games
« on: October 11, 2007, 10:40:01 AM »
The game is titled Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, it's coming to North America January 21.

Okay, sorry, this is something that I see all the time and I've reached a breaking point. If you're going to criticize someone's grammar, you should probably spell the word "grammar" correctly. It's "grammar" not "grammer"!

Nintendo Gaming / RE: DS demo channel?

That'll be at least a couple years, possibly more if it maintains its popularity. I don't want to wait that long, but I may be able to as long as a few specific things get ported (Sonic Mega Collection DS. And maybe a Mother 1-2-3 compilation if Lucas gains some popularity due to Brawl).

Nintendo Gaming / RE: So.. what are Nintendo's options for the Holiday?
« on: October 11, 2007, 09:22:37 AM »
Don't forget that Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn is coming, sandwiched in there between BWii and Galaxy. I'm not buying it, but only because I won't let myself get it until I beat at least one of the 2 GBA ones that I have.

Other Wii exclusives that haven't already been mentioned are NiGHTS and Geometry Wars: Galaxies. The thing about NiGHTS is that it's from Sega, and though it pains me to say it, that's a bit of a red flag these days. And Geometry Wars isn't for everyone, but the original was a very popular Live Arcade game and they seem to be thinking up every crazy modification of that formula possible, so I'm keeping my eye on it.

Nintendo could most likely get an SNES emulator working on the DS. The homebrew community has several SNES emulators for the handheld, they don't have anywhere near full compatibility, but Nintendo knows more than anybody else about both the SNES and DS hardware and could have more experienced programmers working full time on it as opposed to a single person working in their free time. TurboGrafx can be and already is emulated by the GBA, so the DS would be no problem. I don't know if anyone's attempted Genesis/Mega Drive emulation, but if the SNES can be done one would think that would also be possible (and what I really want, I really want the Genesis Sonics on the DS).

I hated the button mashing, but transferring that to motions, even if it's nearly the same thing, sounds a lot better. This is one I'm keeping my eye on.

17557
Hey, we're still getting Battalion Wars, Fire Emblem, and Galaxy, the holiday season is fine.

While this delay is of course disappointing for the hardcore crowd, who have been dead set on getting a taste of Brawl in 2007, Harrison remained extremely optimistic on the subject, mentioning Sonic's involvement in the game, the attempt by Nintendo to reach out to top characters from around the gaming industry, and the mysterious comments Iwata made less than 24 hours ago, stating that Smash would allow gamers to share content with each other both online and off.

More Third-Party Characters Confirmed.

If Nintendo was hoping for Sonic to make up for a delay they really needed to give the new date yesterday and not TBD. The delay isn't a delay until we get the new date, at which point everyone will make a huge deal about it (at least as long as it pushes the game into 2008, if it's a delay of a couple weeks nobody will care). Or maybe they just have another megaton waiting for then.

Yeah, 750,000+ sales of a port of a 2 year old game that's previous form was already playable on the console should give them a hint that there's an audience on the Wii. I really doubt we'll get RE5, we'll get a Wii-exclusive side story if we get anything.

The difference between fan-made flash animations and this is that this isn't being done with the intention of pissing off Nintendo fans and the action is occuring in a context where it makes sense, where Snake and Mario are fighting each other.

I must be really great at SMB3 then, because I don't find World 8 all that challenging, except maybe the one with all the little airships, and the final castle is way too easy.

In my opinion Super Mario Bros. 3 is the greatest game of all time, and Super Mario 64 is 3rd. Super Mario World is great but not on the same level as those 2. And I don't consider Yoshi's Island a Mario game, it's its own thing, but it's one of the finest platformers ever, and in my mind the best platformer on the SNES. I enjoyed NSMB, but it's last in this group as far as I'm concerned.

As for Super Mario Galaxy, from what I've seen it has a chance to be better than SM64. I didn't think Sunshine had that chance prior to its release, and I didn't give either WW or TP a chance to be better than OoT prior to their releases. Galaxy is special, I really can't wait to play it, and whether it surpasses 64 or not, I think this is going to be one of the best gaming experiences in recent memory, and I think it'll be Game of the Year, even over Brawl.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Is Nintendo Creating Lapsed Wii Gamers?

You people are acting as if creating a new IP is as simple as saying "Hey, why don't we create a new IP". And you also seem to be forgetting Disaster: Day of Crisis, which, last time I checked, isn't a sequel to anything. And Project H.A.M.M.E.R., while canceled, was an attempt at a new IP. And finally, not showing anything isn't the same as not having anything in the works.

Wow. GP always has to find something that could possibly be wrong with the game and not get too excited like everyone else, and the only possible negative thing she could think of was that Galaxy may be so unbelievably good that they couldn't possibly do any better and might stop making them.

Also, it's not the ultimate experience unless they bring back Kuribo's shoe.

Yeah, if getting Metroid Prime 3, Battalion Wars 2, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl all in one holiday season is only half of what we got before Nintendo expanded its focus I really wasn't paying enough attention to their releases back then.

Yeah, you could dual-wield in GE:Rogue Agent on the DS. It was a really cool game, I still pull it out from time to time.

The menus have been translated for the VC release of Sin & Punishment. And you can start over at the beginning of the world you're in instead of 1-1 in the original SMB by holding A and pressing start at the title screen after a game over.

I fail to see why this is an issue with SMS, not to mention the fact that changing things like enemy patterns really would change what the Mario series about.  So what would be best? Instead of the dumb enemies that we all know and love, maybe have a goomba take cover when he sees Mario come? Or perhaps have the bobombs conduct search patterns and then notify the koopa troopas when Mario is spotted. Maybe also have a feature where when you kill a koopa troopa you have to hide his shell so it isn't spotted by an enemy?

That's the game Kojima and Konami are doing in return for having Snake in Brawl, Metal Gear Mario.

Any translation of Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan) would be unnecessary as the entire game was originally in English anyway.

The Lost Levels in SMB Deluxe has the last 5 worlds cut out of it, it's not a very good version.

I want the ability to use the home button or at least the power button while playing GameCube games but I'm afraid that's probably something they'd have to have built in to the hardware.

I'd imagine the game controls better with a GameCube controller, as I've bought all the previous N64 VC games and every single one of them controlled better and felt better with the GC pad than the Classic Controller.

Wait, wasn't there some kind of Sakurai quote that said all the characters from the original game were definitely in? So why are we now worried that Ness is out?

If I remember correctly Sakurai didn't definitively say there wouldn't be any Japan-only characters, he just said that they were trying to avoid them.

That was my first reaction. Let's hope it gets the Fire Emblem treatment.
