Join us as we talk about the few Nintendo reveals of the past few days, including Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Skyrim on Switch, Starlink: Battle for Atlas, and more. Also, we'll touch on our thoughts on the other Nontendo games shown off.
Fantastic performance by the USMNT tonight in Mexico City, earning only their third point all time at Estadio Azteca and generally outplaying Mexico for most of the match. They had a plan with what amounted to a 3-6-1, and they executed it masterfully. If only Bobby Wood could have converted in the 6 yard box with an open goal to shoot at, this could have been one for the ages.
Kellyn Acosta needs to be in the starting XI for the U.S. going forward. The three man back line of Cameron, Gonzalez, and Tim Ream played exceptionally well. DaMarcus Beasley, at 35 years old and in his fifth cycle of World Cup qualifying, put in a great shift, almost as good as his counterpart on the right hand side DeAndre Yedlin, who was fantastic in both these qualifiers.
I can't really complain about earning a point at Azteca, but they had the better of the chances and could have easily taken all three points. Wood missed a beauty of a chance, as did Christian Pulisic, and Michael Bradley, emboldened by his early goal, nearly had a second from just as far out, this one glancing off the crossbar.
Still, though, this goal will be remembered for a long, long time:
The developer confirmed the Switch digital version will be the same price as the other console versions. The "include something small in the physical release so you can get away with a different digital price" strategy strikes again.
A couple big pieces of news today. First off, Alphonso Davies officially got his Canadian citizenship and was immediately named to Canada's provisional roster for the upcoming Gold Cup, which would tie him to Les Rouges forever.
I've mentioned him in this thread before, he's 16 years old and one of the most exciting young players in MLS, getting regular playing time for the Vancouver Whitecaps. He's lived in Canada since he was 5 years old when he moved there from Liberia. Canadian fans, weary from a history of losing talent to other national teams, were worried he might not choose to play for them, but it seems to be happening. Now if they could get Tabla to pick Canada over the Ivory Coast they'd really be in business.
The other news is that David Beckham's Miami MLS bid took a huge step forward today with the county giving them official authorization to buy the land for their planned stadium. Just a few months ago the bid looked dead in the water, but now that the league set a deadline things seem to finally be moving forward after years and years of delays and empty statements.
I don't play Ultimate Team and the Frostbite engine kind of broke things to a certain extent in last year's version, so I'm still in, but this isn't encouraging.
The more serialized nature of DS9 allowed them to do more with romantic relationships than was really possible in more episodic shows. They could include them as subplots across multiple episodes because the audience was more used to that kind of thing. Worf and Dax, Sisko and Kasidy, even Rom and Leeta, all made possible by the different format. Even the Trip and T'Pol relationship on Enterprise you mentioned really didn't start until that show became more serialized in its later seasons.
Garak might be the best character on the show even though he's mostly off to the side. The depth of the cast is incredible, and there's no better testament to Deep Space 9's writing staff than Worf. They fleshed out his character a lot more in 4 seasons than the TNG staff was able to in 7.
Deep Space 9 does a great job of building its world like that. The pieces slowly fall into place over the first few seasons as it moves slowly toward its inevitable final form. Season 6 might be the best of them, though I could see the argument for any of the final four seasons being number 1. You're inching closer to what I consider the high point of all of Star Trek and one of the greatest episodes of television ever made, which is coming up later in the season.
Nintendo has officially licensed Hori to make all kinds of niche stuff that wasn't at all the main way to do things. I wouldn't assume that this is the only way to do voice chat.
That does sound like a much better deal. If the library is decent sized the subscription will be easily worth it regardless of weird **** like that headset contraption.
Did you get any of the DLC as part of the bundle? They've added quite a bit to Stellaris since it came out, some of which was added to the base game with patches and other stuff in DLC expansions. I've been meaning to get back into it.
I don't know how you can be "fairly certain" of something like that. You're reading way too much into Nintendo not talking about it, which is weird because that's how Nintendo acts most of the time. I think it's extremely unlikely that they're going to stop selling emulated classic games. They may do what lolmonade said and call them something else, but I'd be absolutely shocked if those games don't come to the system.
I can be fairly certain by using logic with observation-- all their recent behavior points to that conclusion (and it's not as if I claimed I was 100% certain). Plus, I've got a pretty good track record when it comes to knowing how they think and operate (I correctly predicted when and how they'd released the standard size New 3DS in the US -- Fall 2015 in special bundles-- dead on the money-- I was wrong about the charger being included though... I also correctly guessed very early on that NX would be a stand alone portable that could play on a TV). And you're right, they're not going to stop selling emulated classics-- they'll continue selling them on 3DS and via classic mini systems, just not Switch (but we'll still get updated ports of them).
If their plan for selling classic games was based on mini systems they wouldn't have discontinued the NES Mini. I really don't understand how you can come to such a radical conclusion based on so little information.
I've done Super Metroid-Metroid Fusion-Metroid Zero Mission back to back to back, but those are shorter games with more substantive differences between them.
I'm fairly certain Nintendo isn't planning to have VC at all for Switch. They've mentioned "classic games" being part of the subscription service, but to my knowledge they've never used the term "Virtual Console" and I'm pretty sure there's a specific reason for that. Nintendo's definition of "Virtual Console games" are ones that use emulation. I'm pretty confident any legacy games that appear will be specialized online-enabled Switch versions. That'll be their way of avoiding having to accommodate people who wouldn't want to pay again for VC games they already own on Wii, 3DS, and/or Wii U, as well the real reason for introducing the "Mini Classic" systems.
