General Gaming / Re: What are you playing?

I've been playing Cave Story on Switch. I've owned the game in several forms over the last decade, but this is the first time I've played a significant way into the game, and I'm really wishing I'd gotten around to it sooner since I'm enjoying it so much. Satisfying action and just enough exploration/puzzle solving to add flavor without being too frustrating. I love the subtle stuff like the machine gun jet pack mechanic.

Between this and Minecraft Switch is turning into a system where I actually play things I've been meaning to get around to for years, with Shantae probably next on that list.

What IS Ultimate Team exactly? I'm looking forward to this game, but I could really use someone explaining this game mode in detail to me so I can know what to expect.

It's kind of like a collectible card game, where you amass a collection of player cards from all kinds of different clubs and build your own team from them that you can play as. Sort of like playing fantasy sports, but you play the games yourself.

I'm going to go with the leader of the bunch himself, Donkey Kong.

Strong showing today from the U.S. B team in their warm-up friendly before the Gold Cup against Ghana (though they're probably a better team than anybody we'll face in said Gold Cup; group stage matches against Nicaragua and Martinique in particular are likely to get very ugly), but the big story today is the Chicago Fire. The team that finished dead last in MLS the previous two seasons is now in sole possession of first place in the Supporters Shield race more than halfway through the season.

The NFL is the only sports league that currently has an exclusivity deal. Major League Baseball used to, but it expired because 2K didn't want it anymore.

More options in the menu would be great. I have enough games that the current setup has gotten a bit unwieldy. The ability to have more than one row, like the 3DS menu, as well as folders, would be really nice to have.

I think we should do NewsRadio again.

They should just sell the software side of this as a Switch game. All the same games, with the same interface and everything, as a package on Switch. That would sidestep the issue of how to handle selling individual retro games on the system, but still let people have access to a lot of the top titles.

I was going over our forwards for next year in my head and I kept thinking somebody was going to have to be the odd man out in the top 9, and apparently Ron Hextall agreed because he just traded Brayden Schenn.

That really depends on how some of these players produce. We're going to be leaning a lot on young, unproven talent, with crazy upside but no NHL experience. I think this is going to be a better team on paper than the one we had last year (or at least it will be once we address our goaltending situation) and that team didn't miss the playoffs by that much. We're on the upswing, though. Hextall's plan is a little ahead of schedule because of the lottery, but this team only looks to improve over the next few years, whereas teams like the Rangers are likely to fade.

The top of the draft came and went without any major surprises, and the Flyers were able to use their not-at-all-deserved 2nd overall pick on Nolan Patrick. We're going to be a very young team this year, between rookies like him, Lindblom, Morin, and Sanheim and then returning youngsters like Provorov, Konecny, and Gostisbehere. I don't know exactly how it's going to pan out, but the analysts on the draft seemed very high on our prospects.

Seven years ago today, this happened:

That World Cup was my first real exposure to soccer, and that moment was when I truly fell in love with the sport.

You don't need both for that, though. Honestly, having L for block and R for rush might be even better than having it on B.

I really wish there were an option in this game to let me block with a button. I find myself not doing it much because of the annoyance of clicking the stick. Why can't I set it so B is block if I only want to punch with ZL and ZR?

Some of what you're saying in those last two paragraphs will be addressed in the remaining episodes.

Also, Morn's name was picked as an anagram of Norm, as in the character from Cheers, because he's always sitting there at the end of the bar, and there was the running joke that he never stopped talking, even though he never talked onscreen, and I believe the costume didn't allow for it.

Folders would be really nice. I'm up to 18 games on mine so scrolling through that one long line is getting cumbersome.

1192
Yeah, I would be more than happy to just have the Digital Deluxe Program back. I don't need any rewards program beyond that.

In.

Why did Miyamoto say way back in September 2015 that the game was almost done?

If I had to guess, that was probably true at the time, but when they moved it from Wii U to Switch they decided to tweak a few things while they waited for it to come out, and then that snowballed and resulted in further delays. I have nothing to back that up, but it's a believable explanation, especially for a game Miyamoto has his hands in.

Began with Rare, hasn't stopped since.
So you think Yoshi's NEW Island was a good game? ;)

Maybe Artoon is just the worst developer in the world, and even Nintendo can only get them up to that.

1197
I've never played the original Mario & Luigi, it's somehow the only game in the series that I haven't tried. Given the praise it's always gotten, I'm interested to play the remake.

1198
I remember trying to the demo for Mirror of Fate and not liking it, so I'm a little skeptical how Samus Returns will pan out. We shall see, though!

There's a decently long list of developers who have had much better results working with Nintendo than they had with anyone else. Nintendo producers seem to pretty consistently get the absolute best out of studios they work with.

I am so excited for The End Is Nigh. It looks like it's basically Super Meat Boy 2 in terms of gameplay.
