General Chat / Re: Rate the last movie you've seen
« on: Yesterday at 07:15:20 PM »
Nicholas Meyer found the success he did because he had no nostalgia or attachment to the franchise, but was still open to it. It allowed him to keep what was good and cut what was bad without letting his feelings get in the way, and he made the two best Star Trek movies that way.

J.J. Abrams is no Nicholas Meyer.

if you think Star Trek is "deep" and "philisophical", then you need to up your game. Star Trek is just as flimsy as all the other mainstream sci-fi shows/movies out there. The majority of the original show was awful, and same with the first three or four seasons of The Next Generation. And do I honestly need to say more about the other shows?

Multiple aspects of this post suggest you haven't watched Deep Space Nine, something I suggest you rectify immediately.

EA makes the best hockey and soccer games, bar none. I'm going to buy NHL 14 and FIFA 14 this year despite my hatred of EA because those games are so damn good.

Sony's leaks were most likely largely intentional. Most tech leaks are that way now, to build buzz. It would seem Microsoft isn't using that strategy.

If getting completely ignored by everyone is what it does, then yes, it does that well.

It's basically PSN: centralized friends list and achievements. It does those things decently well. Thing is, most iOS games are single-player, and a lot of the big ones that aren't don't use GameCenter. Apple doesn't particularly care, since it's still getting almost universal support, and if the players cared either the developers or Apple or both would do something about it.

Nintendo Handheld Discussion / Re: The world of 3DS revisions.

I think it would be foolish for Nintendo to put too much effort into media functionality that no one would use. It'd be nice in theory, but nobody's replacing their iPod with a 3DS.

I've never seen a Let's Play that involved what seemed to be significant creative input from the person playing. I could see there being some games where you could make that argument, for instance something competitive where the product is the players' strategies and tactics, or maybe something like speedruns where there's creativity in devising the plan, but for most games, or at least most of Nintendo's games, I can't see the player being enough of a participant in it to be deserving of pay. They are wholly dependent on the work of Nintendo.

I know exactly what that tweet is without clicking the link. But seriously, at least go to the trouble of grabbing an image of it and posting that instead. Be kind to your fellow forum-goers.

Unless they make Xbox Live free or get one hell of an amazing exclusive title I want, I don't really care about the next Xbox at all.

LP's would fall under fair use and derivative works. The work has been transformed where the LP has their own copyright on the resulting work. In essence it is now Nintendo profiting off other peoples copyrighted work.

There's a reason something like RiffTrax makes you buy the commentary separately from the movie, and it's the same reason I can't rent a DVD and charge people to watch it in my living room. Playing through a piece of copyrighted work and making a profit off it isn't fair use.

Nintendo is entirely within their legal rights to do what they're doing, and I find it astonishing that people don't see how Nintendo has a point here. I still think it's a bad move, as it does more harm to their public image and perception than the money they'll get is worth, but legally and ethically I see no problem with what Nintendo's doing here.

As far as I remember, she doesn't have a PS3 or a 360, and if that's the case there's a pretty good lineup of things she can't play at the moment.

I think Nintendo's goal is to have Smash Bros. out by the end of the fiscal year, but I don't know that they'll hit that mark.

GameCenter isn't crap, it just doesn't try to do that much. What it does it does well.

This is the version of the game I always wanted, but I had to settle for the Wii one until now. Can't wait to pick this up.

I think it sets a great precedent that Nintendo's charging more for the physical copy than the eShop version. We need to see more of that.

17
I think this is a bad idea from a PR perspective but I think it's baffling that people are so worked up about making sure these people have the right to profit off of other people's copyrighted work.

Google is aggressive with its game platform because it has to be. Apple would have and did have far better game support than Google if it had no centralized gaming system whatsoever. Google's playing from behind, so they have to try harder.

TalkBack / Re: No EA Games Currently in Development for Wii U

EA did some really interesting things with their sports games on Wii U last year. It's going to be hard to go back to not having all the neat things I could do on the GamePad in Madden and FIFA.

I think you're expecting too much from us in that regard. I could sit down here and write a 10 page essay detailing exactly why you suck, with proper footnotes and bibliography and everything, but why the hell would I do that with my time?

You're way too agressive, both in terms of your posting habits and in your desire to find out why we hate your posting habits. My advice to you is to relax, take it easy, and just go with the flow of the forums. Pay attention to the habits of non-despised members here and try to think about what makes them good posters. We can't do this for you; if you want to be a better poster, you're going to need to learn it for yourself.

Try it yourself. It's a predetermined playlist I'm sure, but you get to look way ahead at what's coming and change the order, which is awesome. I often skip a track on Pandora that I only kind of don't like, only to get a song that I really don't like and you can't go back.

If that's what this is, it sucks. I was under the impression that it was along the lines of a Rhapsody or a Spotify Premium, where you pay X amount per month for unlimited access to the entire catalog of songs the provider has access to. Since I currently use Google Music as well as Slacker Premium, being able to consolidate into just Google would be pretty great, but if it's a glorified Pandora clone then to hell with it.

Openly bitching is basically the entire purpose of this thread.

I agree. With the state the company's in they can't afford to take actions just for spite, but they can throw some spite on top of a logical business decision.

Truth be told they didn't talked about Wonderful 101 on last E3...

They did if you were watching on Spike TV. For whatever dumb reason, Nintendo thought it would be a good idea at a show where they were light on exclusives to not mention an exclusive new IP from a popular third party developer in their primary showcase, instead spending a lot of their time on the least interesting part of Nintendo Land.
