Or they could have made a disconnect = a loss. Problem solved.

If you're getting disconnected often enough for that to make a difference, you need to get a better internet connection or find another hobby.

Screen shaking has almost nothing to do with lag. Screen shaking is something that the GPU handles, and the slowdown you saw was from all the graphical effects accompanying the move that caused the shaking, not the shaking itself.

But anyone who tries to act like Live isn't the gold standard in online play is delusional or ignorant of what it can do.

lawl. PC gamers have had free online play for years. Hopefully the fact that neither Sony nor Nintendo are charging for their online services will bring Live closer in line to what MS should be doing when they release the next XBox.

And it doesn't have a gratuitous picture of Snake standing to the side, completely out of proportion to every other character.

I'm going to guess there are liability issues involved, especially because Nintendo was like 'go away and start your own forums'.

Don't we have a review forum, with approximately 5 threads? We could stick the VC reviews in there.

If you're going to be playing someone halfway across the world, lag/latency is a physical fact of life. (At least until we figure out how to communicate faster than the speed of light.) I'm just surprised that they managed to get it working with four players.

End his life early by incarcerating him in a bottle and ingesting Dewy.

That's the in-game advertising...instead of having branded vending machines, the game over cinematic will be Dewy stuck in an Aquapod moments before being guzzled by the winner of that aforementioned contest while exploring Costa Rica...they'll even use WiiConnect to patch the game with the winner's face and say the game has online connectivity.

Yeah, I was half expecting it to get shot down completely. Not to mention it would have helped so much with that part where you had to pull the levers...except you were pulling the levers to destroy an anti-aircraft gun :P.

They put so much effort into all the little nooks and crannies of the series and it just felt like some aspects of the plot left big gapping holes that will never be filled.

My biggest quibble with the Aurora thing is that the preview channel Aurora movie set everything up just perfectly...and they didn't use it. Kind of like in the PED video, where the voice over says 'No ill effects have been observed' just as the marine is staring at his hand.

I'm sure they had dogfighting and cut it.... I think the ship missile expansions are proof of that, more so than the little touches of blast shields and cannons in your cockpit. I'm convinced those things are damned if you do, damned if you don't. Had they included it people probably would have cried foul, especially if it wasn't perfect. I for one don't think they would have been able to do it well and were probably better off keeping it out.

I think dogfighting wouldn't have worked out well, but they could have done at least one space-based boss battle on-rails (like with Ridley at the beginning.) I mean, you're already so close to that with blowing up the ATCs and protecting the bomb over Elysia. No worrying about controls, and as Mashiro said some of the cutscenes were just crying out for it.

Oh, and with the bombing runs thing, a boss battle involving your ship not getting beaten to death would have rocked.

Regardless, the game is pretty much almost perfect. Just rename 'normal' to 'easy n00b mode' and we'd be all set.

It's the room where you get the screw attack. It has the two giant statues.

I think Chozo Observatory only gives you Norion, Bryyo (NOT including Bryyo Ice), and Elysia locations for powerups.

Nintendo Gaming / MP3: Mogenar
« on: September 17, 2007, 08:58:33 AM »
So, Hyper Mode isn't *that* bad. Blew up the generators on Bryyon, even managed to get the voucher for pulling the levers, and now I'm at the seed boss (Mogenar).

Mogenar on Hyper Mode is freaking insane. I can avoid all of his attacks at the beginning (when you have to shoot the red balls). It's after the red balls die that my problems begin to mount.

I like to shoot out one ball at a time, go into Hyper Mode, and permanently disable the socket. That's hard enough, but most of the time he's able to replenish his balls before I can blow up the socket. And the replacement balls are freaking impossible to kill.

When I do shoot out the socket, my problems begin in earnest. If I bump into his boots I get 30 damage. And the morph ball camera is really messed up (only in this part of the game). Also, I can't seem to use the tractor charge beam to pick up powerups (which are really rare anyways).

Does anyone have any tips for this boss in Hyper Mode? This was the only boss I really had trouble with on Normal...

I've gotten 5 energy tanks right now (the Olympus and Norion tanks, one from the reliquary that you get to by turning into a ball, one hidden in the broken golem, and one close to where your ship lands in the jungle part). Are there any more tanks I can get right now?

I'm waiting for the Demo Channel. They have the VC infrastructure already (demoes would fundamentally be 'free' VC games, but without the emulator/compatibility layer), and they now know that people aren't exactly scared to download stuff off the internet onto their console.

General Gaming / RE:Gaming: A Moderately Priced Hobby?

The thing is, if you want a reasonable cross-sectional sample of the gaming spectrum, you can cut the PS3 out (by the time its really good games come out, it'll be $200 or less), as well as the XBox 360 (because not only are the best XBox 360 games all being ported to or released on PC, they are also being 'enhanced'). But he does touch on a good point. Quite frankly, the fewer consoles competing the better, because each console represents a significant amount of 'dead weight' investment you have to make just to play games you buy separately.

I can disagree neither with what Evan said nor the underlying views that impelled him to make those comments. And anyone who opens a topic about 'ethics' is practically begging for trouble people to share or involve their religious or ideological beliefs.

Given that the game was originally supposed to have been a launch title, I wonder what would have happened if they had rushed it out last year.

The game was filled with win: the beginning sequence, the bosses, the artistic design, the controls, the rock-solid 60 FPS, the lore entries, the enemies, the characters, the title screen, etc. You know they did something right when one of the biggest complaints was that the doors were sticky.

The levels were great. Even the relatively vanilla Norion looked great and felt right. Phaaze was nice, too (at least what I saw of it, with one eye constantly watching that stupid Phazon gauge).

I think one of the things that makes the relative difficulty of the bosses go down as the game progresses is the fact that you can go and find so many more optional energy tanks.

One more question...does anyone know if you have red and blue credits left over after buying everything? Or do you need to get every single red and blue bonus to get all the stuff?
