Nintendo Gaming / RE: Revolution Bundled with Mario
« on: December 22, 2005, 05:37:23 AM »
Honestly, I don't believe a Mario pack-in will sell more Revs. Back in the day, the people buying NES were either the hardcore that were put off by the implosion of Atari and the arcades or kids. The SNES succeeded because of 'Ian's rule' - as long as the market leader doesn't screw up, they won't tank.

Spak has a point - Nintendo is cheap, and the general trend has been away from pack-ins.

I don't think we'll get a full game, but we'll definitely get some sort of built-in demo and chat functionality for the non-gamers spak mentioned.

All that said, if we do get a pack-in game, it should be a multiplayer bonanza, not a 3D platformer. (That said, I do want Mario at launch)

I do believe that one major VC game should be packed-in, or it should be released at a reasonably small cost.

Aight I'm out.

I wanna kill Ken Lobb's likeness with a Klobb from GoldenEye, for irony's sake.

All third party exclusive are welcome! Even if by an obscure Japanese company. That reminds me - we should get Treasure onboard ASAP.

It's retarted how they fault Nintendo for the epileptic seizure thing. They're the only ones that have a gigantic red WARNING MAY CAUSE EPILEPSY warnings on their games, for pete's sake.

Nintendo Gaming / E3 Surprise Predictions
« on: December 20, 2005, 10:25:00 AM »
We all know Nintendo is going to pull out all the stops this E3 (or so help them if they don't.) Since we're not gonna get a lot of news, we might as well start the E3 speculation early:

1. The DS gets a redesign. - We all know this one is coming sooner or later. Since its been 1.5 yrs since DS launch already, and Reggie himself has hinted at a redesign already...this is probably gonna come as part of the one-two punch (the other part, obviously, is the Rev unvealing)

2. Metroid Prime 3 for launch - They've been working on it for long enough, haven't they? This could part of the Rev's killer app line up.

3. Surprise new franchise? - It could be anything. This one is not so much a predicition as a given.

4. Some kick-arse online multiplayer. - This is basically key for Rev launch. What exactly it is is anyone's guess. I would say Smash Bros., but it looks like they haven't really begun serious work on that until just recently.

5.  Footage of next Mario. - Somehow, I don't think this'll come at launch, though it should.

6. DS 'connectivity'. - This won't be as extensive as GBA connectivity. Rather, it might allow big screen play of GBA games, or DS if it could manage it. Maybe it could be used as a controller for downloaded games. Maybe it'll even be possible to download the games off of the Rev and play them on the go; though conventional wisdom states that Nintendo is too cheap for that.

7. The unvealing of Zoonami's games, whatever they are. - It's pretty ridiculous how long Martin Hollis and Co. has kept his games under wraps. I think something will definitely be revealed by them, whether its for the Rev or not.

8. Third party exclusives - not more than two for launch frame. - I think that's fare, considering how they haven't gotten the 'real' kits yet.

9. Rev's secret feature(s)? - At first I thought it'll just be some stupid sparkling innovation; now I'm not so sure.

10. One pack-in VC game per console..

11. Price pts.: $199 for decked out console (with DVD dongle, shell and nunchuck controller, pack-in VC game. Controller = $34.99. Games = $49.99. VC games = $5 -10.

Aight, that's enough for now. I know a lot were no brainers...but cut me some slack yo, I made it pretty quickly.

Thoughts?

General Chat / RE: Futurama to pull a Family Guy?
« on: December 20, 2005, 09:36:25 AM »
Yay! Although Family Guy is better than Futurama, almost to the point where the two shows shouldn't be compared, I want this show back; I don't care if its on Fox or not.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Market the Revolution: What's the slogan?
« on: December 18, 2005, 06:50:25 PM »
Hehe yeah...the quote is from Moby Dick, from the scene where Ahab baptizes his harpooners. It's probably the best scene in the whole book.

ANYWAYS - you may now all return to your regular revobantering.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Memory Cards...
« on: December 18, 2005, 09:12:25 AM »
Right...we're making a mountain out of molehill, thanks to that stupid FS comment of mine. Let's just agree that they'll use FAT and end it.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Memory Cards...
« on: December 18, 2005, 05:33:43 AM »
Alright then, if FAT is free, it'll be used, and there's no problem. KDR, whats the compatibility of all those FSs you just listed outside of Linux and OSX? They're all probably leagues better than FAT (especially reiser), but if its not used in digicams, mp3 players and whatever else uses SD these days, it would be pointless.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Memory Cards...
« on: December 17, 2005, 06:22:42 PM »
FAT16 is pointless, and also owned by MS. Anyways, let's see what happens...Nintendo is notorious for cheaping out on minor things like this (and this isn't really so minor.)

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Memory Cards...
« on: December 17, 2005, 04:01:43 PM »
Gates does own NTFS, but it's not used in memory cards for the most part. It is far superior than FAT32 on hard drives though, but writing NTFS isn't really possible outside of Windows. Apple only implemented NTFS reading in the newest version of OSX, Tiger. Anyways, like I said, unless Nintendo are douchebags, they'll support FAT32. They're already going to be paying money to Sony for DVD playback; no reason not to pay MS for standard memory card formatting.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Will it be called the Nintendo Revolution?
« on: December 17, 2005, 03:46:27 PM »
Synonyms for Revolution, courtesy of Dictionary.com:

anarchy, bloodshed, cabal, coup, coup d'etat, crime, debacle, destruction, disorder, foment, guerrilla activity, innovation, insubordination, insurgency, metamorphosis, mutiny, outbreak, overthrow, overturn, plot, radical change, rebellion, reformation, reformation, reversal, revolt, rising, row, shake-up, shift, strife, strike, subversion, transformation, tumult, turbulence, turmoil, turnover, underground activity, unrest, upheaval, upheaval, uprising, uprising, uproar, upset, violence

It's a plot! Flouridization! The Commies! Call in General Turgidson, Mandrake! We cannot allow a mineshaft gap!

What about the Nintendo Morph (suggests that it will forever change the way we play)? or the Nintendo Alpha (beginiing of a new era...also the Alpha of a pack is the leader)?

All the logos, btw, should be in lower case, e.g. [nintendo alpha]

All names should leave room for rerelease/rebranding - e.g. Second revision could be [alpha mini] or [alpha micro].

Seriously, I'm loving Alpha. Also, the tagline should be my new sig.

What about the "Nintendo Revolution System?" NRS for short. Or simply the "Nintendo"?

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Memory Cards...

Maybe an SD Card port to USB connector could be devised by a third party. Unless Nintendo are gonna be dicks, the Rev will have to support FAT32 when it writes to memory cards. Otherwise the card will have to be rendered incompatible with basically everything. I wouldn't put it past them to skip that though, and pay no royalty to MS.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: 2-3 Times as powerful as GC true, sez IGN
« on: December 13, 2005, 12:07:26 PM »
F*ck the MPAA and Sony for Bluray. " Blu Ray won't cost 20$ per disc or something, the price isn't as much of an issue as the MPAA loves to make of it." KDR hit it right on the mark all the way up there.

Thanks, KDR. No chance of the situation changing? It's scary how they're using Pavlov to hook people in. Maybe EAD or Retro should make one, it would be interesting to see what they would do with it.
